It’s not a new rule.Oh ok. If you and others are trying to say that AB should be suspended by the league for his detrimental behavior, you will get no argument from me, other than to point out that this is simply not how it has worked in prior situations. Was LeVeon Bell suspended by the league? Historically speaking, players acting like malcontents to get out of bad contracts / bad situations has NEVER been an enforceable action (see, for example, Randy Moss, who everyone acknowledges quit on the Raiders).
Knowing this, some would like to create a new rule to prevent the destination team and the player from benefiting from such behavior.
I have no problem with that.
But recognize it for what it is...attempting to define a new rule and apply it to something that has already happened (or technically may happen at a contract signing tomorrow).
Players have been suspended for conduct unbecoming.
someone (like 40 pages ago) mentioned that the longest one meted out was 6 games, reduced to 4 on appeal.
this isn’t unprecedented. Antonio Brown has been a petulant child, and in a very public manner. He’s illegally recorded a conversation & disseminated them on social media, as well as posted the team notice of suspension.
He missed practices, caused a ruckus over “helmet-gate” and generated a ton of negative publicity for the league surrounding one of their most sensitive issues, concussions & player safety.
Even without the alleged threats or altercation, this is clearly conduct unbecoming. It warrants a suspension. It’s not a new rule.
and the precedent set by not suspending him is that any time a player isn’t happy with their situation, they can create a massive public headache for a team & force their release.
That’s unacceptable.
. Where did this come into play? AB has never cared about winning.
