WR Brian Thomas Jr., JAX (21 Viewers)

i cant find any of the twitter fantasy docs opinion on his injury. healthy or not maybe coen (finally) realizes the number 2 pick in the draft that you gave up multiple picks for is his true #1 WR

Theres one out there saying he may have a torn labrum, the same shoulder he hurt in college and the one he fell hard on earlier in yesterdays game. He seems to be playing through injuries (this is me coping hard and praying this is true as a dynasty owner lol)

I hope they shut up for a day, as I have an offer in my inbox for BTJ+2026 & 2027 1sts For Ja’Chase that I can only accept after games go final tonight (MFL)

This makes all the sense in the world actually, why he's been contact averse, why he was so shaken on that ball that he high pointed and went off the finger tips and went down hard on. He was also alligator arming that ball down the sideline where he slowed up.

So since Jacksonville is on a bye do they get to totally ignore his health coming out of last week's game and not provide any information until next week? To my knowledge the coach said nothing after the game and there have been no other updates. I have BTJ but also picked up Hunter on waivers this week. The shoulder injury did not look good at all the way his arm was hanging down as he left the field.

Yeah - there’s no practice this week so there’s no obligation to update unless it was an IR situation.

Well at least that's good news, not an IR situation.

It's still a bit frustrating to have no update. Anyone who saw the play he went off on for good saw that there was minimal contact and yet he walked off like he'd be seriously hurt. I'm still stressing it until I get some more clarity. I know he's been disappointing, but I've had so many injuries that i need every healthy body with potential.

Whats the stress, he and the team probably don't even know til he gets out there.

If its a torn labrum, we'll have to get some word if he can play through it, it certainly seems like he's been playing compromised, I dont know what the better ask it, a 70 percent BTJ or shut him down and let me play a healthy guy

You ask what the stress is and then you explain the stress, lol.

I know they don't owe fantasy players anything, so I'm not mad about it. I do however want to win in fantasy and knowing at least the general severity of the injury will help me make some tough decisions. No one cares about my team but I'm in this thread to hopefully find any info and I figure others that are posting in here now are doing the same so I'm lamenting that we don't have anything at all.

Yeah but if he was out for the year you would know I assume

I get your stress but I don’t sense info is being hidden and if it’s significant he will be on the IR

It’s a bye week, you can’t play him anyway

He’s probably a sunk cost and a bad investment this year, and I own him in multiple places

He's looking to be a bad investment thus far, but I'm not dropping him unless we get very bad news.

I wont pretend to follow Russini closely, but it seems to me from what I have seen that she gets a lot wrong. I'm not sure how much stock i put in this report.
I agree. It makes no sense. But it's one of those types of quotes where she can be wrong and say "well that's just what my source told me" without having to verify anything with the team because they will obviously deny it

I actually wondered a few weeks ago if they'd make him available but then thought no way, can't recall a WR traded at that point in their career like he is now. Which is to say a second year WR coming off a huge rookie season and under contract for 2-3 more seasons past this one. Most trades we see of WR's like this they are on their second contract or last year of their rookie deals.

But on the field it's not working with him and Trevor. Did not work great last year, was apparently not working great in camp this year or last year either. In short 1.5 years into his career the only time it's really clicked for him was when Trevor was not throwing to him.

They also could stand to get some draft capital back.

What Russini said exactly was that a trade was unlikely but they were listening and wanted defensive help.

If that is true, which I highly doubt, it just goes to show you how bad of an organization they are.
I don’t know. Seems like they’re trying to change the culture there. Maybe he’s a locker room problem? Guy leads the NFL in drops. Maybe he’s not taking any accountability for that?

Try to maximize his value before he puts more drops and routes where he shies away from any kind of contact on tape.

Any kind of contact? Lawrence leads the league in Hospital Balls by far. At some point, they need to fix that.

Given the hype he had, Lawrence may be the most overrated player in history.

I’ve watched a significant amount of Jags’ football and this narrative is way overblown.

It’s perpetuated by Thomas owners mostly.

He leads the NFL in drops with 9. That’s not because of “hospital balls.” It’s because Thomas is afraid to take a hit in the middle of the field and gets alligator arms.

They’re probably discussing trading him because Coen’s offense is predicated on WRs being able to catch the ball in traffic and get yac.

That’s not BTJr.’s game.

Exactly. Can’t imagine trading away a guy who thrived with legendary Mac Jones because a wannabe Sunshine (shout out to Remember the Titans) can’t help but throw hospital balls and has lost the confidence of his WRs.

Are you a Jags fan? If yes — are you glad Prince Trevor is the QB?

I recall reading a lot about him entering the draft and word on him was that he was super quiet and that led to some people to question if he loved football.

Also recall early in training camp last year some Jags players and staff talking about being surprised at how quiet he was.

I'd be very surprised if he was some kind of locker room problem child but it's possible also not the kind of star/key player you want to build your culture and would prefer someone who is more of a leader, energy guy, etc, etc.

Hmmmm. 2023, pick 1.04 anyone?

Link?

I am one off the few—the only?—guy on this board who roots for Lawrence’s actual football team, and of course I’m frustrated. He hasn’t been as successful since he stopped playing against Wake Forest and Boston College (altho the AFC South is the ACC of the NFL). But a lot of this is just nonsense

Bye week buzz is that there is a distinct lack of confidence in Thomas across the organization.

Receivers according to trust level:
1. Strange
2. Hunter
3. Washington
4. Thomas

Thomas is only this high because Dyami Brown was a wasted free agent signing and Tim Patrick is old and slow.

The decrease in Hunter’s defensive snaps last week and going forward is the result of the offense needing an alpha wideout to fill the role they thought they had in Thomas.

He’s not helping his franchise quarterback—no matter what you think of his ability—or executing the offense of the new hot shot coach. Both of those guys needs/wants are going to take precedence over those of second year WR who is struggling with drops and catching balls across the middle of the fiekd

I hope they get it right over the bye, and BTj thrives. But if it turns out that he’s only effective on out routes and deep sideline passes, he’s not really a good fit with Coen and Lawrence.

So maybe getting some type of return now makes sense; and this new regime is not the same old clown show. They shipped out Tyson Campbell—their 3rd highest paid player?—mid season because they weren’t going to pay big money for average play

Lawrence also needs to take responsibility for bad play. He is nowhere near as good as he was supposed to be.

Trevor Lawrence is not a good QB, take this from someone who watch’s the games down here in FL. I’d rather them trade Trevor Lawrence than BTJ

Trade him to San Fran and reunite him with Mac, man what a crazy dream that would be!
Reunite with a backup QB? Hmmm.
You joke but BTj was WR3 in PPG once Mac took over for the injured TLaw last year. Purdy is still out and no telling when he's over his turf toe (probably not until next year) but if he comes back soon even better. Neither Aiyuk nor Pearsall are practicing yet, Jennings wants a new contract, there'd be a lot of opportunity there.

I watch every game and roster Thomas and cannot tell you the dividing line between gutless and hospital balls vis a vis the pros.

I can tell you that the first throw Lawrence threw against the Rams? Let's find the video. All of us. We will check it out and check out all of the reactions.

Let's check.

Not a peep in response?

I mean, heck. Let it fly on BTJ if you know. I don't mind. I'm not a pro receiver nor a coach.

I know Coen designs his offense around the slot receiver.
I know Kupp and Godwin got annihilated at points in their career.
I know Stafford is accurate as hell.
I know Lawrence is not.
Baker had a career year.
I cannot tell you the appropriate distance (both historical and modern) we allow for receivers and spacing.
I cannot tell you the level of trust we need
I cannot tell you if we're looking for flags and if that's acceptable

Somebody?

Guess we won’t know.

Yeah, just go ahead and cite relevant stuff. My apologies. Best you can do.

eta* I'm just going to hold off. My opinion doesn't really matter here.

Bucs are playoff hopefuls and Evans is probably retiring after this season. Their WR corps are banged up. Makes sense to me.

Disclaimer: I know absolutely nothing about their cap situation.

What are the causes of their WR corps being all banged up?

McMillan's neck from being up in the air this year and landing on it, right?
Godwin still hurting from last year.
Evans clavicle this year. Hamstring soft tissue earlier.

Who else?

Not one way or the other. Just list facts.

I think @oldmanhawkins has done us a big service in the thread about Trevor's throws in London. Thanks, man. That is key.

I know what I immediately think. Yep.

I'm refraining but it feels like it's flashing in neon.

eta* eh, not so much. I don’t know, honestly.

Thomas is on Year 2 of a 4-year rookie deal with a 5th year team option I believe, he's very cap friendly right now
About 60% of his rookie contract was signing bonus too. His cap numbers for an acquiring team would only be about half of 1.5MM for the rest of this year, 2.1MM in '26, and $2.8MM in '27 and then whatever the 5th year option ends up at. Would be a steal for anyone acquiring him if it were to happen
