WR Chris Olave, NO (1 Viewer)

I made a move from 1.08 to 1.03 in a PPR TE premium league with the express purpose of getting a WR. For months, even before the draft, Olave has been at the top of my wish list. But now that I am in that position, and with post-NFL draft analysis, I am torn between Olave, London, and to a lesser extent Burks. Living in Big Ten country, I saw a lot of Wilson and Olave, and Olave just seems to have "it". If I could trade back to 1.05 now, I think I could still get him and maybe pick up some capital, but I don't see any of those guys wanting to move. Is it just crazy to think of Olave as WR1 in a PPR dynasty rookie draft?

Throw Wilson, Olave, London, Burks, Williams’ names in a hat…that’s the way those 5 seem to go in different orders in each rookie draft. Take the dude you like best since there’s no obvious front runner according to ADP at least.

True, it's crazy how the expert rankings (and not just on FBG) are all over the place on those guys. Usually scoring formats sort it out, but not this year, from what I've seen so far.

Honestly, I would’ve stayed at 1.8 and odds are decent you would’ve gotten one of those top 5 WRs, since it seems someone is always in love with Watson GB or Skyy Moore KC that they go 1.6 or 1.7. But if you moved up to grab Olave, stick with the plan since its likely as good as any other plan someone else has this year. :)

Have completed 5 drafts so far, and just 1 of those was where this scenario occurred. I grabbed Olave at 1.8, but he was 1.6 or 1.7 in every other draft I did (PPR 1 QB leagues).

Olave just did some of what he got drafted to do: deep down left sideline, caught it between 2 defenders, with contact.
Grown man stuff.

Saints rookie WR Chris Olave had another highlight in 7-on-7 drills when he caught a pass intended for another receiver that was batted up by the defender and floated in the air for a few seconds. Kind of like the “Immaculate Reception” with much lower stakes.

The hype is building around him.  Seeing him consistently creep up in rookie drafts from being ~5th in that top tier (behind Wilson/London/Burks/Jamo) to now being taken interchangeably at 1.03-1.05 between London and Wilson.

I've got the 1.04 in an August draft and have been eyeing Burks for months but have to admit I'm considering Olave way more than I was previously...

Just took him at 1.14 in my one non-FFPC dynasty. Two copies of each player and 24 owners so basically just like 1.07 in a normal 12 team league. I somehow only managed one share in all of my FFPC portfolio even though I've been a fan all offseason.

Not sure if I've mentioned it or not, but there's been some concern with him regarding contested catches...will be interesting to see how he fares once the pads come on.

FTR, I have Olave #6 rookie so not a hater.

NBC Sports' Peter King believes the Saints have "big plans" for first-round WR Chris Olave.

Standing in the shadow of a returning Michael Thomas, Olave has not gotten a lot of ink this training camp. While this is a very promising report, that Thomas shadow could make it difficult for Olave to earn a big target share as a rookie. Even so, he has a big play profile and appears to be acclimating well. He should at worst be a spike week option.

Chris Olave caught two passes for 28 yards and one touchdown in the Saints' preseason game against the Packers.

Olave's touchdown came late in the first half to give the Saints their first touchdown of the night. Quarterback Ian Book rolled to his right to find Olave in a tight window between two defenders, and made a perfect strike to the 2022 first-rounder for the score. His night would come to an end after that score, but it was an encouraging sign for a player the Saints are expecting big things from this season. Olave should have plenty of opportunities to contribute meaningful fantasy weeks this season, but his weekly output could be stymied by a wide receiver room that includes Jarvis Landry and a healthy Michael Thomas. Regardless, Olave should have some high-end WR3 value, but has the talent to turn in the occasional top-12 week.

I am worried that a healthy Thomas, combined with Landry, are going to limit his opportunities. It wasn't long ago that Thomas was a beast!!! I think Olave is my favorite rookie WR, just worried about chances.

Thomas drawing coverage is a plus.... I'm not sure Thomas is the same guy... that was quite a lay-off. I never worry about the rookie season when targeting WRs. Long term QB situation is murky though...

Winston looked pretty good last season before he got injured.

Good start but Mike Thomas looks like he's back. So my expectations are a bit lower now.
I’m worried about Landry too. Lot of mouths to feed. And this was a down game for Kamara as well. Saints didn’t pick it up until late in the game tho.

Chris Olave caught 3-of-3 targets for 41 yards in the Saints' Week 1 win over the Falcons.

All three of Olave's grabs came in the second half and went for 10-plus yards. A solid NFL debut, though he was the clear No. 3 receiver behind Michael Thomas and Jarvis Landry. Olave is going to get plenty of opportunities to stretch the field, provided the Saints don't keep the restrictor plate on Jameis Winston. For now, Olave should be regarded as a boom-or-bust WR4 with Thomas and Landry likely to command bigger target shares.

Chris Olave caught 5-of-13 targets for 80 yards in the Saints' Week 2 loss to the Bucs.

Jameis Winston kept trying to connect with Olave deep, but his throws were rarely on the mark. He finally found Olave for a 51-yard gain, but the rookie secured the catch, stumbled to the ground, and fumbled the ball. It was recovered by a Tampa Bay defender. The good news is that his usage was elite and should give fantasy managers hope he can be a long-term FLEX option. Olave will look to capture some of those air yards in his Week 3 matchup with the Panthers.

Can't complain here. You know what you're getting with Jameis. Reckless gunslinger who loves airing it out. It's not a bad stop gap until the Saints draft a QB next summer.

Gotta love that Winston has eyes for him.

Chris Olave caught 9-of-13 targets for 147 yards in the Saints' Week 3 loss to the Panthers.

Olave, who saw 334 air yards in Week 2, was once again the focal point of Jameis Winston's desperation, though more passes found their mark this week. The rookie was Winston's favorite target throughout the game and could be even more involved going forward. Both Jarvis Landy and Michael Thomas went down with injuries in this game. The statuses of those players will play a role in Olave's Week 4 outlook, but he should be treated as a WR3 no matter who is in the lineup.

#1 WR slot looking up for grabs.

"The best ability is availability."
How the EFF was Garrett Wilson and Olave on the same team? And also Jameson Williams at some point? Lmao

Olave looking like a stud, just like all of the other 1st round WRs

Feel like the really solid early returns on Olave and Wilson are also somewhat of an answer to the common question I saw about Williams -- "why didn't he ever produce until he transferred away?" A: because he was behind two older, high quality NFL talents.

Or could Jamo be the next Terrace Marshall?

I’ll see myself out lol

Chris Olave caught 4-of-7 targets for 67 yards and a touchdown in the Saints' Week 4 loss to the Vikings.

There were concerns that Olave's style wouldn't mesh with Andy Dalton, but those were quickly negated by a second-quarter score at the goal-line. Olave wound up leading the Saints in targets again. His seven looks were good for a 25 percent target share. The rookie may not have racked up air yards at an incredible clip in this game, but he won in different ways with a new quarterback under center. He enters his Week 5 matchup with the Seahawks as a solid WR3 option.
