WR Cooper Kupp, SEA (2 Viewers)

About 5 weeks til the season. Let it fully heal up, and we *should* be good to go.
Older players heal more slowly from soft tissue injuries.

Not saying Kupp will take longer. I’m just saying he’s not young.

I mentioned up-thread that he’s been prone to soft-tissue injuries in the past, prior to his break-out season.

Hopefully he bounces back from this ok and it isn’t something that lingers. The NFL is more fun with him in it.

I’m out as a top 5 pick as well though. If he falls to the back of the 1st it’ll be a tough decision but I’ll probably bite the bullet.
I have him in dynasty so unfortunately I have to be optimistic. I’ll likely avoid in redraft though

Older players heal more slowly from soft tissue injuries.
Older people generally, but not 30 year olds.
30 is kind of my benchmark number for the NFL. Mostly it’s from my own experiences with players over 30.
YMMV
You can have that opinion/philosophy, but don't say it as fact.

Do you really think a 30 year old's hamstring heals slower than a 26 year old's - that's not science based.

Science says "in elderly patients" healing is slower. 30 is relatively old for an NFL player, it's not "elderly" though.
True but these aren't normal people. The 4 years of age actually means less to me than the 4 additional years of wear and tear on the body. 4 years of pro football is serious lower body stress.

we are specially talking about a soft tissue injury. Obviously "wear and tear" is worse with age by definition.

I'd love to see one link saying a player recovers more slowly at age 30, than at age 25.
Sure, it is soft tissue but it's all connected. Ankles, knees, hips, hammys, back, etc. 4 years in pro football years is like 12 years in normal years. For redraft, I just see age 30 and an injury last year, an injury now and I think maybe I do like Adams, Diggs, AJ Brown a little better after all.

I don't think we need a link. By definition of aging, anyone older then X, including X+1 takes longer to recover, once testosterone levels max at age 18-19. Basic.

That’s not what I’ve read but I’ll accept it (or you could provide a link to that) - but either way since we are talking about still relatively young ages even on your spectrum - is the difference in healing time even discernable? Would we be talking minutes, hours, days?

In other words how much longer do you think a 30 year olds hamstring would take to heal and how long do you think a 26 year olds would take? The difference isn’t going to be significant, if anything at all.

It doesn't really matter because there’s six weeks before the season starts and we’ll know if he’s healed soon enough.

I know in my 20s I could sleep on a basement floor using a sweatshirt as a pillow and wake up feeling like a million bucks. In my 30s I sleep on a $2,000 mattress with $100 pillows and wake up with mysterious injuries and sometimes have difficulty bending over to put on socks. Not sure how this furthers the dialogue here, but anecdotal evidence is better than none at all right?

Kinda depends if the hamstring has been injured before, along with other factors (age being one of them)

Any strain is a tearing of the muscle. The degree of the strain indicates severity of tears.

AsI understand it (again, not a doctor) if an athlete suffers multiple strains to the same hammy, it can take longer to heal.

Likely correct, he should be fine. He did just have an MRI yesterday, so clearly they’re a little bit more concerned than initially reported.

But like you said - 6 weeks to the season, he should be fine.

I have him in dynasty so unfortunately I have to be optimistic. I’ll likely avoid in redraft though
Might be a good time to buy if someone gets nervous. But the only league I have him I’m contending so it seems better to hold.

Rams coach Sean McVay has labeled Cooper Kupp (hamstring) “day to day.”
“I don’t think it’s anything to be overly concerned with,” McVay said Saturday evening. McVay did then proceed to say he’s hopeful Kupp is back for the Rams’ joint practices with the Raiders, which will take place in two weeks. The takeaway is, no one seems concerned about Kupp’s Week 1 status.

Has anyone seen any very recent trades involving Kupp? I might need to make a little dynasty reconnoiter just to see what the dip in value might be. Could be worth if one is willing to go all in this year.

Trade offered to me but not accepted as I was hoping to upgrade RB
I give Tee Higgins & SF Def (Top 4 2022)
I get Kupp & Mattison

I wanted more at RB as I have 5 starting WR (not to Kupp level but good WR2 depth)

I’m a 37 year old man… and I put my socks on just like everyone else.

Barely being able to reach my feet and wincing in pain and bouncing between sitting on the edge of the bed and standing hopping on one foot till it’s finally on and I’m sweating.

And I’m not trying to be snarky, seriously think you should look into that if you are having those kind of flexibility/stiffness issues in your 30s. It’s not too late to improve that.
In my 30s I had a slipped but stable disc for about 6 months until I got a cortisone shot.

It fixed it, but I began a daily stretching regimen that I maintain to this day. Helps a ton.

I did hot yoga for a while immediately after, which was beneficial, but some of the attendees were shall we say, not so fresh. 🤢

Maybe I'm undervaluing Higgins/overvaluing Mattison, or your league has some funky scoring, but this seems like an auto accept for me. Even if you don't really want Kupp or Mattison I feel like they could be packaged to achieve your end goal of upgrading at RB.

Thanks but my goal was a top tier RB like ETN or Rh Stevenson.
Tee is 24 yo and Top 12 WR
Kupp is 30 and dealing with repetitive soft tissue injuries
Mattison is unproven to me and does not make up the difference
Maybe I am overvaluing Tee??

No, I am on your side. I prefer Tee to Kupp. I actually was trying to do an ETN for Tee trade earlier this summer. I was giving up ETN as I was deep at RB and shallow at WR. The guy seemed willing but then got cold feet at the last second. So it was at least a very close deal in both our minds.

Maybe I am overvaluing Tee??

I think so, but it depends on your team and where it is in the standings. Are you competing this year or rebuilding, or in-between? If you're competing, I'd take the Kupo/Mattison side in an almost heartbeat. If you're two or more years away, then no, I wouldn't take Kupp/Mattison and you're not overvaluing Tee and the SF D.

All good, knew it was coming from a good place! And I'm already on it since my 20s. The three herniated discs in my back are the main culprit so I'm probably not the best example of a typical late 30 year old lol. Been putting off surgery for a while now, but it may be time to bite the bullet and finally get them fused.

If you do go forward, hope it goes well. I can relate to delaying likely necessary medical related things.

Agreed.

Higgins is good and younger but not in the same tier as Kupp.

As a Vikings fan Im not that excited about Mattison but I would rather have him than a defense as well.

Rams coach Sean McVay expects Cooper Kupp (hamstring) to resume practicing this week.

Sidelined since August 1, this would have Kupp returning after roughly three weeks. Especially since it’s the summer, that would hint at a fairly mild strain, hopefully one not susceptible to re-injury. Although Kupp’s injury history is getting lengthier, his targets floor and points upside keep him locked into the first 5-6 picks in all formats of fantasy.

Anyone else a tad nervous about how the Rams season could play out and undermine the offense' performance 2nd half of the season?

Keep reading that on paper, this team could be terrible. Also one of the youngest teams in the league. They could be in sneaky rebuild mode. Possible trade deadline dealing away A. Donald, (Kupp?).

Not to mention Stafford's health.

Kupp keeps dropping to me in mocks at #7 and I'm gunshy.

Any practice reports on Kupp?
There was a report from Sigmund Bloom on his attendance at the Broncos Joint practice with LA Rams .. and how Kupp looked great... how he won vs Patrick Surtain more than once in 1 on 1 battles. He expressed you should have no reservations RE: Kupp's recovery.
Sorry I cannot find the link ... it was a few days ago (this week).

I saw that.

I think I'm more concerned with the team's overall situation now.

I think Kupp's main risk now is the health and attitude of Stafford this season. He doesn't seem all that keen as to being part of a rebuild and he's coming off of a neck injury. I can see him sitting out the second half of the season, once the Rams fall out of it (and they will) with a minor injury. Kupp himself should be fine and being moved before the trade deadline is likely a good thing for him.

Just not feeling it.

Keep toying with Chubb or B. Robinson over Kupp in PPR.

I took Barkley over Kupp - it wasn't an easy decision but just felt "right".

Kupp has been a monster in ppg the last three years. I think he could be wr 1 this year again.
He certainly could.

I just think his floor is lower this year because of that team. If he's not traded, maybe he's shut down.
Very possible with the state of the team, but the Defense is pretty bad and I can see lots of garbage time, catch up efforts where Kupp explodes for value.
In close games, IF THERE ARE ANY, will be more balanced, but I don't expect many of them.

If he is not hurt, why would the Rams simply "shut down" Kupp ? Even if they stink, it seems counterintuitive for them to shut down their best player for no reason.

Feels like a lot of overthinking in here. Kupp is a Justin Jefferson level lock to be productive, no matter how “bad” the Rams are this year. The only risk with him is health.

Truly one of the only players who can carry your team week in and week out. In the middle of round 1, he seems like a no brainer selection. No way I’m taking a RB like Chubb or Barkley over Kupp in that range as the upside is significantly higher for Kupp over Chubb and the risk is just as great with Barkley.

Agree. The only WRs I take before Kupp are Jefferson, Chase and Hill. Not sure there is any RB I take before any of those guys--maybe CMC.

I don’t see any reason why a 30 year old WR would be shut down unless he’s hurt. How many more years does he have left? He doesn’t have that luxury of just taking time off. If he’s healthy, he’ll play and play well.

It rarely ever happens despite the fear of it. He'll play if healthy. I expressed concerns about Stafford and I feel the same about him. However, neck injuries can be tricky so I can see him being more "cautious" if Rams are out of it and he's feeling some pain (that he'd normally play through). The Rams are looking like a team that will have a high draft pick (although maybe they traded this one away as well).

Rams HC Sean McVay said Cooper Kupp suffered a setback and is day-to-day with a muscle strain.
The Rams have 10 days until the start of the season, which should be enough time for Kupp to ready up for Week 1. Still, a setback for the 30-year-old receiver this close to the season is concerning. They way McVay described the injury would lead us to believe this is different from the hamstring injury Kupp suffered early in training camp, but we’ll see how it’s listed when the team provides its first injury report next week. Kupp is a weekly must-start when healthy, but if he’s kept out, Tyler Higbee and Van Jefferson could both see an increase in targets.

Setback is never a word you want to hear with a 30 y/o dealing with a hammy.

I’m really hoping Denver sees this and shuts down Jeudy for 2-3 more weeks. I need him for the playoff run.

Sean McVay on Cooper Kupp: “I think we just take it a day at a time right now. We'll see. We want to be able to get him back right. We're obviously a much better team when he's available, but in his absence over the last handful of months, he's been out there leading in the way that he can. But those guys at the receiver position have really done a good job of continuing to develop, and we'll see. Hopefully we'll know exactly kind of when he's back as soon as possible, but do have a lot of confidence in the depth that's been developed in that room.”

That sounds like they might be without him for a game or 2 if you read between the lines.

Wonder if Puca will get a chance to shine.
