WR DeAndre Hopkins, BAL (1 Viewer)

Honestly, if I'm Watson, I'm demanding a trade right now. Or holding out for 50+ million a year. Just something crazy. The way O'Brien is going, its not unlikely.

This trade would literally be fair if you took DeAndre Hopkins off of that side of the deal and the Texans were upgrading their 4th to a 2nd in exchange for taking on DJ's contract.  They gave Hopkins away for free.

As bad as this trade was the biggest thing I am thinking right now is did they not offer Hopkins to anyone else? How could they not and how could they not a better offer? I just can't make sense of it.

I'm shocked. Heck, there was a chance the Cards outright cut DJ this offseason. Now they turn him into Hopkins? Wow.

surely AZ is on the hook for some of DJs money right? The whole impetus for this was Hopkins new deal and if that was the case youd think they rather pay hopkins as opposed to overpay DJ, right?

:pickle:  Holy shlt we got Hopkins :pickle:

And rid of DJ in the process. What a #######g heist. DGAF what the terms of the deal are. DJ was the third best runner in AZ.

It doesn't matter if AZ is taking everyone's contract, this is still a huge win for Houston

I have a buddy who used to be an agent in another sport...he would say when you see a trade that makes no sense there is always something going on in the background that the public is not aware of...something says BOB caught Hopkins at his house last night wearing his headset and an old Penn State jacket.

And from everything I've ever heard or read, Hopkins is a really good dude. It's not like he was a cancer or anything.

I just can't wrap my head around this.

I disagree that its a win at all. Def disagree its a win if they pay DJ and not hopkins

makes SOME financial sense if they can get a cheaper DJ and some picks in a super deep WR draft tho

Rotoworld take:

Cardinals acquired WR DeAndre Hopkins and a fourth-round pick from the Texans in exchange for RB David Johnson and a second-round pick.

Staggering, stupefying. Bill O'Brien's foolish loss is the Cardinals' immense gain. Hopkins had a "down" 2019 as he caught "only" 104 balls for 1,165 yards and seven touchdowns, but there was quite literally zero evidence he had lost a step. The best body control receiver in the entire NFL still does not turn 28 until June. It's a grievous misstep for Houston and gift of a lifetime for Kyler Murray, who lacked consistent weapons as a rookie. As was the case with Hopkins and Deshaun Watson, he should work beautifully with Murray when the sophomore is outside the pocket. Murray also has the cannon necessary to find Hopkins down the sideline from the pocket. Even with the change of scenery, Hopkins remains a locked-in, top-three WR1. Bill O'Brien, call your attorney.

  Still FN can't believe this.

Cards desperately needed a WR able to get downfield more and they arguably got the best WR in the league while giving up a well past his prime RB that's never been a great runner. Boy oh boy. DJ might have great long speed but the guy can't move laterally anymore. And that's always been a weakness for him. Now add back issues. Hopefully they use him as a receiving option.......with Duke Johnson already rostered.

If you're going to trade a premier WR why wouldn't you try to get a top OT or other protection for Watson instead of an oft-injured RB with a bloated contract?  Holy moly.

Not only can they not protect Watson, now he doesn't have anyone to throw to.  At least he could force it to Hopkins and still be successful.  Holy moly.

The silver lining here is for all of us DJ owners in dynasty. He's gotta be THE man in Houston now, right? After this trade, he'll probably never come off the field.

This is like one of those dynasty trades where someone is coming up with the worst one sides offer possibly imagineable and then thinks to themself "you know what, they need to throw in a 4th round pick too".

They already traded the farm for an OT last year. Now they are trading one of their few premier assets to get a 2nd round pick with probably a 60% bust rate and an over the hill RB that looked done last year with a huge guaranteed contract.

Man I'd be looking to deal him. Or at least seeing if this deal spikes his value.  I'd assume they'll try to keep him on all 3 downs (no clue what they have planned for Duke Johnson).

The fork is close to sticking out of his bad back. I'd take Carlos Hyde (much cheaper and better runner) + Duke over DJ.

I remember us sitting at camp just last year and was clearly visible that Edmonds was a better runner. DJ's burst and lateral movement is gone. Gurley has the same problem. Long speed RBs.. (I'm sure we'll get some puff pieces about their "XXX MPH" for both).

It's why another OT or G/C would have made more sense.  If you're tanking at least try to build the offensive line.  Seems like BoB just took the first offer he could get his hands on.  Arizona looks pretty good in all this.

And they didn't even really use duke as a checkdown last year. Do we really expect them to throw the ball to broken DJ 100 times?

Watson must be beside himself right now.

They get a freaking gift in the division with the luck retirement and the jags falling off a cliff and this is what they do. Unreal.

Ouch.  Sucks to be a Houston fan, I would be so pissed.    I’m mad the vikes didn’t go after him,  I’d take Hopkins for cook every time.  They must not have shopped him at all.....

All I can think of is DJ had some back problems last year. Maybe he's past those now? No clue. I just don't understand this trade.

Nope, that injury he had required a lot of rest/rehab and could be reoccurring, I remember researching it last year; think my post is still there.

Bill O'Brien basically traded for a question mark.

Rotoworld saying there was a big rift between BOB and Hopkins.

Makes sense - you're the only guy who has a problem with a superstar player and the best way to deal with it is to sell him well below market.

They need a real GM.   Complete train wreck of an organization.

The world is rife with incompetent people who are somehow placed into situations and get paid lots of money to make decisions like these. Must be nice to be in that position.
