WR DeVante Parker, Retired (1 Viewer)

Dolphins re-signed DeVante Parker to a two-year contract with a max value of $13 million.

The Dolphins have been expected to cut Parker all offseason with one reporter saying the receiver was "all but gone," but the new coaching staff has apparently decided to take a shot on the former first-round pick. Parker was scheduled to make $9.387 million under the terms of his fifth-year option, so he is taking a pretty big pay cut in order to get a second season.

I'm waiting for the Groundhog Day reboot where instead of a radio with Sonny and Cher, Phil's got an Echo tuned to a sports-talk station.

His alarm goes off at 6:00 every morning and it's always Bobby from Orlando saying, "So if the Fins just make him the feature piece and get him the ball, I , uh, I really think this is gonna be DeVante Parker's year!"

Great thread title. This guy is one of my biggest busts ever, why can't the Fins quit him?
The Dolphins are in clear tank mode. If they were trying to put a winning team on the field next season, Parker would have been gone, no question. It’s a very low risk deal that they signed him to. The new coaching staff probably wants to make sure he’s an absolute bust before letting him go.  He has shown some signs of being a very talented player. His work ethic and his ability to stay on the field are the biggest issues with this guy. Miami has nothing else at wide receiver at the moment. If he’s healthy, big if, he’s going to get a lot of time on the field to show he’s worth being part of the rebuild. If he has another year of looking like a bust, he’ll be gone after the season.

Yeah.  Can't blame the new staff for wanting to find out what is really there.  Gase consistently misused talented players in his tenure.

That is fair. I could see the case for wanting to reset the locker room culture and get someone who has a reputation as lazy out of there, but I also can understand what you said about being totally sure about him.

Tyrod Taylor telling Miami no could be good for him but I really get a sense from Parker that he just does not love football. I keep getting burnt by him because I see flashes but a guy I hoped could be AJG like is really probably more Justin Hunter.

Saying all that I'm more surprised he returned to Miami then Miami wanted him back for cheap. I'd have thought a change of scenery would be good for him but that's where I go back to questioning his love for football. I think living in South Beach and making a few million works just fine for him.

he's talented but suffered under Gase and his drama. i think he's got a chance to be relevant and/or valuable in a brand new offense. i've held onto him in my dynasty because of his talent. i'd acquire him in other leagues because he can be had for peanuts and the upside is there.

Yeah, he just doesn’t care.

I keep trying to quit this guy but if they sign Teddy Bridgewater I might get sucked back in considering that was his QB in college, maybe he can bring some spark out of the him.

Teddy Bridgewater resigned with the Saints to remain the backup QB to Drew Brees.
As of a start of FA he was re-considering and sounds to me like Miami is closing in on him. What changed is I think Miami thought they'd get Tyrod but when they lost out on him they increased their offer to Teddy B

i don't think it's all about money for Teddy. he may want some assurances of starting instead of repeating what happened in NYJ.

Sigh. Here we go again.

I’m not going to talk about how DeVante Parker is killing this Miami Dolphins practice

11:54 AM - 21 May 2019

 @Safid_Deen

#Dolphins WR DeVante Parker had a big boy TD catch over a defensive back in red zone drills just now, and stared him down. Pass from Fitzmagic.

I have had a hard time quitting too.  He seem poised for a third year breakout with 56 reception 744 yards and 4 TD's after year 2.  Then Jay Cutler happened, so I didn't lay most of the blame on him, but he followed it up with another dud with Tannehill/Osweiler.  I still own him in one league and traded 2.7 for him before the NFL draft.  It turns out I would have been able to get JJ Arcega-Whiteside or Damien Harris at that pick, so it better work out.

Imo the passing game wont be better with rosen....fitzmagic can sling it....but parker is  an avoid

Miami Dolphins practice report (May 21)

Excerpts:

-- DeVante Parker with a red-zone touchdown catch over Xavien Howard.

-- DeVante Parker is having an impressive day in the red zone.

-- DeVante Parker caught a touchdown to haul in a high pass over the cornerback. He stared him down afterwards.

-- Dolphins coaches are really being positive with DeVante Parker, cheering him on whenever he makes a play. Clearly this staff is trying to build his confidence.

-- Very interesting to see DeVante Parker leading the receiver position drills.

DeVante Parker is having himself a day at #Dolphins minicamp. Has caught two deep balls from Ryan Fitzpatrick, plus a toe-tapping sideline grab and just connected on a back-shoulder play. Fresh start under new staff and he’s flashing that 1st-round ability.

Serious sleeper potential, but likely will fade into oblivion once the season starts.  That said, I think he could be available for next to nothing or possibly on waivers.  If so, still seems like its worth the risk to give him one more regular season to live up to his potential.  No excuses, but his situation has been abysmal since he entered the league.  Not sure its significantly better now, but maybe.  Fitz can sling it, and maybe Rosen proves to be a franchise QB.  Its a super cheap add with nice upside.

Hasn’t this always been the vibe with Parker since day one?

Groundhog Day...

The Miami Herald's Barry Jackson writes DeVante Parker "has been the best player in camp the past five weeks."

"If he played like this in games consistently, he would be a Pro Bowler," Jackson continued. It must be the offseason. Parker also received glowing reviews for his offseason work last year, and he parlayed that performance into 24 catches for 309 yards and a touchdown in 11 games. It is possible everything finally clicks for the former first-rounder, but he cannot be treated as anything more than a late-round flier.

Dolphins WRs coach Karl Dorrell said DeVante Parker has a "clean slate" with the team's new staff.

The Miami Herald's Barry Jackson writes Parker has carried over his spring dominance to training camp and remains one of the best players on the field. He's also been healthy, which is a big step in the right direction for the former No. 14 overall pick. Parker said his goal is 1,000 yards this season, something he's yet to achieve. If Parker is able to stay on the field, it's an attainable one with Ryan Fitzpatrick's gunslinging mentality. Parker is basically free in fantasy right now.

"I think he's had a strong camp," Brian Flores says of #Dolphins WR DeVante Parker. "The key for him is consistency. ... Clearly he's got talent. Can we apply that talent or maximize that talent ... and string them together?"

This guy is basically free right now.  I realize its the same every year, but the reports have been consistently glowing, they just signed him to an extension, there is a new coaching staff, and 2 new QBs, and he probably realizes this is his last chance to create a big payday for himself.  Maybe he has matured and realized he cannot get by just on pure athleticism.  Maybe he is putting the work in finally.  Devante Adams was written off by everyone, and he is now a top 5 WR asset.  I traded Sammie Coates for him a few years ago.  Some of these guys just take a longer time to figure it out.  He was the 14th player drafted, and has a great athletic profile to go with a great college career, and he has flashed (albeit mostly in the preseason) in NFL play.  At his current price, I am buying if I can.  I dont know his ADP but I bet it is 13th round or later in redraft, and just sugar on top in dynasty deals.  I dont think there are too many guys with his upside that can be had that cheap.

Health has been an issue. But even when healthy, he didn't seem to get that open. Maybe it's route running or he's not as fast as advertised.  If he doesn't put up stats with Fitzmagic, he's an official bust.

I think he realized that he cannot go by his talents and had to step up by being pro... taking care of his health and improve his work ethic. Hopefully, he put everything altogether this year.

Yeah i agree, i'd take a flyer on him.

It's been how many years of "omg he's lighting it up in practice! This will be the year!" and still some people are falling for this.

Parker is a wasted roster spot.  Some guys just don't have it.
