WR Dontayvion Wicks, GB (1 Viewer)

There was one "drop" of his along the sideline that had Love thrown the ball 2 feet ahead of Wicks it would have been a 50+ yd TD. Instead, Wicks had to stop his route and attempt the catch. The conversation regarding Wicks would be much different had Love thrown a better ball.

He got dumped in a league already. Amazing.
I still have him rostered in dynasty of course but I dumped him in redraft. This should’ve been an absolute smash spot; if he flopped here, how are you ever going to feel comfortable putting him back in your lineup?
Putting him back in this week.
Good luck, Doubs will be back now too.

I’ll roll with someone with a little safer floor like Tolbert.

He’ll have some big games ROS no doubt, but the stinkers can cost you weeks.

I think Doubs being on the field actually boosts his FF potential. Doubs is a better meat and potatoes, move the chains kind of guy that sets up shots to Wicks. They had a BUNCHA of 3 and outs that probably would've led to more sustained drives if Doubs was in.

This guy is going to be free this week when people dump him because he didn’t produce in one game.

And if I wasn't already holding him in three leagues, I'd scoop him up.

I will say it is time to put up or shut up for redraft. He didn't have a drops problem last year. Reminds me of Diontae Johnson that one year in Pittsburgh. Always open, newly-acquired drop problems for both guys.
The weird thing is that it seems like actually catching the ball is the easy part of the job and the part that’s most easily improved.

Come on dude - get on the jugs machine!

Over who though?
Kupp and Addison are on byes anyway. I basically have Tucker and Polk on my bench. Watson and Doubs are both on the wire but I prefer Wicks.

Who was he dropped for? If it’s JJSS, that makes sense.
I’m gonna have to drop him in a league with short benches. Unfortunately.
Ditto.

I just picked up JuJu and was prepared to maybe drop him, but with Doubs and Watson back this week I think he'll be the one to go.

If Watson is back, outside of J. Reed, I think it's going to be wack a mole deciding who gets targets. Especially with T. Kraft ripping it up now too.

he was like 4th or 5th in the pecking order to begin with
Really? He had like a 30% target share at time of injury I thought.
per FBG & rotoworld, 10 snaps, 7 routes run, 3 targets.
Yeah that's a great opportunity share.

But with injury now it may not matter.

I think he's still a clear dynasty buy/hold. In redraft...idk it depends on benches. I thought Watson would be the guy to have this year and he got hurt but maybe that'll turn around second half.

Hype train leaving the station, again.

Good camp?
Yes, good reports that he's creating lots of separation and catching everything thrown his way.

Am I going to fall for it again?
If you do he won't hurt you much if he fails, just missed opportunity of the end of your draft or roster spot you could use on some other flier you probably don't feel strongly about.

Have seen him not get drafted in 12 team league with 20 roster spots. I drafted him yesterday in the 22nd round of my Scott Fish Bowl draft.

Choo choo I still believe. He’s faster than his forty time and last year’s hands were hopefully an aberration. Problem is Doubs, Golden, Reed, Williams, etc. Can he get on the field?

eta* the Jets should trade a 4th for this guy and let the Packers $$$$ profit while getting a steal themselves. I might be able to be convinced to give a 3rd, even, but that’s an overpay.

Imo Wicks was given the opportunity multiple times and didn't cash out. GB already has two solid wrs in Doubs and Reed then they went out and drafted Golden. Not to mention Kraft at TE.

Last year every game he got 7+ targets he caught less than half of them. He went 0-fer on four separate games. I don't see any reason to see why he's given more snaps or targets this upcoming season.

I agree, tough to get excited about the guy after receiving hype prior to last season and not remotely delivering. The now crowded room does not bode well for a jump in production.

Same, cost vs upside equation checks, he might be my most drafted player this off-season.

His drops were never this bad in previous pro or college seasons, read a big puff piece on him yesterday detailing how it all snowballed on him last year and messed with his confidence but article pointed out he did improve later in the year. But I'll keep saying you can fix drops a lot easier then someone can learn to be an elite separator.

The crowded pass catching room and their penchant for preferring matchups over featuring a player is a bigger issue then his abilty to me. Kraft is really the only one I feel good right now to put in a lineup and even with him it's a projection and relative to TE position. For this reason I do like their receivers more in the Best Ball format but certainly worth shots in other formats as injuries and trades happen.

If they deal someone I expect it to be Doubs since he's in the last year of his deal and I'm still not 100% sure whatever led to his displeasure last year is 100% resolved, plus he's another concussion from a likely extended absence. But I guess if they ever finally decide to put someone on the market who they trade is relative to the return and Wicks return might be a lot more then Doubs and make it more worth their while. Would love to see it.

As you ponted out with your Jets fandom they could deal 4-5 WR's to the Jets who would be their immediate #2, make it 5-6 if/when Watson is healthy.

The reports from camp regarding Wicks have been glowing. Catching everything. Saw a post comparing Adams 1st 2 seasons with Wicks and they are very similar. Adams suffered with the drops his 2nd season as well. Wicks is far from Adams talent but don't give up on players too soon

I just traded Wicks for Mafah and a 4th.

He's definitely going to be the next Adams.

Don't know if I got much here but I picked him up for $1 of my $1,000 FA bidding when waivers ran Wednesday in a few leagues because if I got roster room I love to stash player who plays on Thursday in case an injury(and in this case I was specifically thinking of Reed but of course the foot) or some type of out of nowhere performance occurs. Can just cut him Sunday morning on the second waiver run.

Did same thing with Musgrave on two of my Kraft teams in case Kraft got hurt, which for a brief second I thought happened.

I've been hard to knock of Wicks. Cheap and he gets open at elite kind of levels. Hands and snap count are or course issues but while he'll always have some drops I think last year was more of an extreme and while he's still likely not going to be some kind of 8o+% route runner he's probably going to be in the 65-70% range and I can work with that as a WR4/5/6 type on my roster. Picked up in a lot of leagues I spent 6th round picks on Rashee Rice, feel like he might provide some cover weeks 3-6.
