WR Donte Stallworth traded to Eagles (2 Viewers)

Longtime Saints special-teams ace Fred McAfee was among four players cut by the Saints on Monday, but the day’s biggest news could be about starting wide receiver Dontè Stallworth.

McAfee, quarterback Jason Fife, cornerback Joey Thomas and tight end Tim Euhus were released by the team. On Friday, the Saints picked up defensive tackle Antwan Lake off waivers from the Atlanta Falcons.

Stallworth, a former first-round pick from Tennessee, was not at the team’s first practice back at its Metairie facility. The team has an abundance of receivers and is seeking help at linebacker. The Minnesota Vikings are one team in the market for a starting level receiver.

The Eagles have acquired receiver Donte' Stallworth from the New Orleans Saints in exchange for linebacker Mark Simoneau and a future draft pick.

I think it is interesting that in the evaluation of Joe Horn the experts here kept downgrading Horn because they said Stallworth was the #1. The Saints shopped Stallworth all off-season. They couldn't find any takers. Now they have finally found someone to take him off their hands. If they believed that Stallworth was a legit #1 they'd never trade him.

I guess that would tell everyone that Joe Horn is okie dokie! I'd be interested in seeing if the Saints try to get J. Porter or Branch now.

Nice for McNabb owners....

He won't catch more than 60 balls in that offense -- Reid has McNabb really spread it around in the absence of a superstar. But he will get most of the deep balls and 7-10 TDs would not be a surprise.

they apparently didn't like his work ethic and Payton and company have been cleaning house ever since they took over. wonder what type of pick they got for him. seems like it should be at least a 3rd.

I'd be very surprised by 10 TDs. 7-8 is the ceiling, IMO.

as a mcnabb owner this is huge. I am def. going to target him tonight. Now he was 2 WR2s to throw to. Sweet!!

Anyone see Stallworthless breaking the top 15 now?

RBush...WR2?

anyone confirm?this would be HUGE for FF and the Eagles
Why? Stallworth was borderline undraftable already and now he has to learn a new offense on the fly.
No way was he undraftable, but I agree that he'll have to learn a new, complicated offense in a very short timeframe. I would temper the enthusiasm for Stallworth.

my :2cents:This doesn't help Stallworth much, but it does help McNabb a lot and might hinder Brown, Smith and Westbrook a little.

the Saints are really going to start Devery Henderson?
I guess. As a McNabb owner I'm stoked. As a very near future Henderson owner not bad news either.

Dynasty leaguers - keep an eye on Marques Colston and Mike Hass. I don't think Henderson is consistent enough to hold onto the WR2 gig long term. Chris Horn could help in a stopgap this year, but chances are a starting slot at WR is going to open up in the next year or two.

Nice move by the Iggles. Donte is stilla young WR and has a chance to reach his potential playing in the Phili offense. He could be a huge sleeper for the second half of the year.

Really?
ok, that was vague, fair enough.i just meant it has far-reaching effects on quite a few players besides just StallworthMcnabb, Brees, Reggie Brown, Horn, LJ Smith, and more...pardon me
Ah, that makes sense. I thought you were saying this could be huge for one particular person. It's just a slight adjustment to a lot of guys.

I have Henderson in a dynasty league, so this must be a sign that they are happy with him. I also have Reggie Brown in 2 leagues, this has to hurt his numbers having a proven guy across from him now.

Saints keep trading for these linebackers that are mostly backups. :o

Really? Did the Eagles just acquire two NFL starting caliber WRs after Donte trade?
