Seahawks selected Western Michigan WR D'Wayne Eskridge with the No. 56 overall pick of the 2021 NFL Draft.

Eskridge's (5'9/190) explosive numbers in five years at Western Michigan — 18.5 yards per catch, 9.4 YAC per reception — need be taken with a grain of salt since it came against MAC competition. He was still one of only four FBS players to average 130-plus receiving yards per game in 2020, leveraging his state championship sprinting background to dust man coverage consistently. Eskridge's 4.33 40-time will draw headlines, but he also has immaculate strength and balance with a 350-pound bench, 505-pound squat and 37.5" vertical. His experience as a gunner and kick returner will allow him to compete on special teams as a rookie. He'll be 24 years old in Week 1. The Seahawks entered the draft holding just three picks, with just the No. 56 overall pick in the first two days. Using their only significant draft capital on a wide receiver hopefully incentivizes them to unleash Russell Wilson more often.

Seahawks coach Pete Carroll said the team targeted second-round WR D'Wayne Eskridge for his ability after the catch.

Carroll added that he thinks Eskridge could be used in the running game. With D.K. Metcalf and Tyler Lockett ahead of him, Eskridge is going to struggle for consistent targets, but Seattle looks committed to finding ways to use his game-changing speed. Eskridge also figures to see time on kick returns as a rookie.

Seahawks WR D'Wayne Eskridge is not participating in minicamp due to a toe injury.

Pete Caroll did not give a timetable on Eskridge's return but did note that it was unfortunate that the rookie was missing time while Seattle installed their new offense. This doesn't bode well for Eskridge, who has the chance to be the third receiver in an offense led by Russell Wilson. If he's unable to get back on the field in time to pick up the offense, Freddie Swain is expected to be the next man up. Swain started one game as a rookie in 2020 and amassed 13 receptions for 159 yards on the year.

Seahawks coach Pete Carroll expects D'Wayne Eskridge (toe, PUP) to recover in time to appear in a "couple of preseason games."

That's good to hear, but there are only three exhibition tilts now, and the Seahawks' first one is in just 16 days. Eskridge has been sidelined for well over a month. This is an absolutely critical time for a rookie wideout, so Eskridge is damaging his odds of cementing No. 3 duties behind DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett. 2020 sixth-rounder Freddie Swain is running as the third option for now.

Seahawks WR D'Wayne Eskridge is in the league's concussion protocol. 

The rookie wideout had three touches in his regular season debut against the Colts, including a 13-yard rushing attempt on a sweep. Eskeridge left the game with a brain injury and is now in jeopardy of missing Seattle's Week 2 game against the Titans. Seahawks WR Penny Hart is also in the NFL's concussion protocol after suffering a brain injury against Indianapolis.

Seahawks WR D'Wayne Eskridge (concussion) is out for Week 2 against the Titans. 

The head injury is the toughest of breaks for the under-sized 24-year-old rookie, who barely practiced during training camp because of a toe injury. He could be losing his grip on Seattle's No. 3 duties. Freddie Swain is the next man up behind target hogs DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett. The fact that the Seahawks took Eskridge's status down to Saturday is an indication he could be ready to return in Week 3.

D'Wayne Eskridge did not practice on Tuesday due to a concussion.

Eskridge hasn't played since Week 1 due to a concussion. He practiced in a limited fashion on Monday but didn't participate on Tuesday. That doesn't bode well for his chances of playing in Week 5 considering Seattle has a short week before playing the Rams on Thursday night. Freddie Swain will be the Seahawks' WR3 again if Eskridge can't go.

Seahawks placed WR D'Wayne Eskridge (concussion) on injured reserve.

Eskridge has not played since suffering the concussion in Week 1, and that's a scary-sounding concussion for a 5-foot-9 player. Seattle elevated Phillip Dorsett from the practice squad for tonight's game.

Eskridge has been sidelined since suffering a concussion back in Week 1. It was unclear just a couple of weeks ago if he would return this season, so the rookie getting back on the practice field is great news. Consider him questionable to face the Packers this weekend.

Eskridge cleared concussion protocols after getting designated to return from IR. Coach Pete Carroll confirmed he'll be active for the first time since going down in Week 1. Eskridge had just one target in his only appearance this season and his role figures to be limited coming off a long layoff. The rookie second-rounder should split snaps with Freddie Swain as the No. 3 receiver behind DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett.

Speaking Monday, Pete Carroll said that second-year WR D'Wayne Eskridge was "going to be a really impactful player. I don't have any hesitation in saying that."

Eskridge could challenge Freddy Swain for No. 3 WR duties next season in Seattle. With no knowledge yet as to whether Russell Wilson will be in the building or not, there's not a lot of upside at stake at the moment. Eskridge was a burner and his speed could be fantasy-friendly if he truly does put it all together, but he'll need a hefty second-year leap to be on the fantasy radar.

Seahawks WR D’Wayne Eskridge was suspended six games for violations of the personal conduct policy.

It’s unclear why Eskridge was suspended. Entering his third season, the former second-round pick had 17 catches to his name. He was not going to factor into Seattle’s gameplan on offense after they took Jaxon Smith-Njigba in the first round.
