WR Elic Ayomanor, TEN (1 Viewer)

So is he a "emerge in the 2nd half" kind of guy or it takes an injury kind of guy?

Unless you are Ridley (Ward's security blanket); or

Ward in 2QB (talent + opportunity + leash),

Every/anyone in this offense is more than likely 'emerge in 2nd half' at best.

All good. They are rebuilding. No disrespect. Quite the opposite, actually.

Yesterday, Titans reporters were debating how ready the rookies are. They didn't sound confident in Elic- which is a negative change and nothing has happened but closed practice.

One thing that stuck with me was their discussion of why the Titans have put the word out that they're looking for a WR? Many suggestions thrown about just guessing at things. We can guess here just the same. I just...it does give me pause. Why did they?

"4th round rookie should need a year to adjust and develop."

Not sure if just a producer's idea for talk. Just...it was very hmmm. I've been somewhat sick of the same thing and anxious for games now so it suited me to hear a different discussion.

This morning I noticed some negativity in my timeline of articles. That IS how it usually goes when ya need an idea.

Grain of salt, you'll see some negativity today and literally nothing happened to change opinions

TURRON DAVENPORT
Cam Ward said Elic Ayomanor is going to end of being one of the best route runners as he advances in his career.
Appreciate you Faust. Just want to say again, Ward is beyond ridiculous with praise for his WRs. I have no doubt he'd say yes if you asked him if Prosche is the best WR in the NFL. It's like he was trained to in a public speaking class. His top ten WRs in the NFL included like 6 Titans WRs.

Elic ain't there yet. I've mentioned he's got spacing issues and held up at the line and he's also got this wicked step that's like an Allen Iverson crossover it's so sharp and sudden. I don't doubt the promise but when the WR coach and former WR radio hosts start pointing out things he needs to work on, it just becomes obvious he's a learning rookie.

He's a big lean guy that plays even bigger. He's got some Plaxico to him. That would be my comparison. He makes long arm catches and ya think he's taller than he is.

Anyway, if y'all need someone for comparison I think Plaxico

I've gotten a bunch of flack for this.

Well I don't think people remember Plax other than TD catches so 😛

Nonetheless he's got that odd long reach that catches your eye

2 catches on 7 targets for 13 yards.
He had one that he went up high for and came down on his back and his elbow hit first and....why didn't we challenge that? After the game when the coach explained, he had the rule wrong and several reporters pasted the rule on X. This will count as a drop since it was in his hands. I couldn't be happier with the effort on this pass tho.

He got hung up a good amount at the LOS early and then again and....I didn't notice it after. I assume it clicked.

Little shy on a few routes. Broncos are gonna bump and slap and anything legal then he's gotta man up every play.

Looks promising still. I just thought he still looked like a guy that'll take over midseason. They're kinda rushing him and there needs to be a standard for production. Cam has to have X amount from that position.

He didn't do his Allen Iverson side step so he wasn't totally comfy but he did good. We saw speed and length and used his bod when he needed to box out.

Between the linemen injuries and Cam, I didn't see the camera on him much blocking. Since Jefferson came in and blocked, maybe there was an issue, maybe. No one has written of it so I assume he was fine there too.

He was surprised he was the starter and surprised he played so much. I just don't like it. Every coach preaches this earning bit and work hard and whatever else.

Unsure what week two will bring since coach was hypocritical but the kid looked fine. I'd call it 3 catches for 50 yards.

"Riley Moss is beatable Surtain is not" IDK them well enough to do more than regurgitate that quote. If we don't gift the out of bounds play 2 catches for 13 yards isn't enough. I just think midseason replacement and for now he plays a good amount with coaching up in between

It's been fun to be on national media's radar. Titans almost never are.

I think it's mutually agreeable from the zillion that discussed Cam yesterday that Elic is an intriguing rookie but he's not quite ready.

It's so debatable how Callahan will adjust after week one to save his job. Just about anything is reasonable.

Ya gotta note that Callahan was apologetic on Monday and said how he should have done things they did in summer. Yesterday the OC consistently said everything is great everything is fine. The chat was funny with memes of burning dumpsters and such. That aside, what makes the OC do that? I guess Callahan got "a talking to" on Monday. If you agree with my guess- change is definitely going to be in the air to save his job.

My head goes to "how would a random other coach use Elic?"

I think he's still a big part but he's gotta be used a bit less. He's gotta be subbed for and coached up. Ya can't force Cam to have a 2 catch 7 targets 13 yards starter/Lions share of snaps.

I don't think he's the elite (like Marvin Harrison Jr) type rookie that will play a zillion snaps and just wait til it clicks. He was a fourth rounder.

You can take this as hope for FF or a negative and they better sub someone in. It kinda works both ways

Fantasy Pros has his air yards at 129. If PFF's are unrealized and they're not the receivers fault that means it's on the quarterback or the coverage. Ayomanor made a catch on a deeper ball that Callahan didn't challenge even though his elbow was in, right? So there are some of the unrealized air yards accounted for.

Generally, unrealized air yards don't bite the player. What eventually can bite the player are when the fantasy guys use tracking data and regressions to give you expected fantasy points and you're consistently under your expectation. It can mean you're inefficient with your chances and that inefficiency is tied to your individual performance.

Some national radio quotes-

"they're going to have to engineer some offense. It's not really change since week one was new. It's a lot easier to do that with the outside WR than in the slot"

"Callahan probably wants to phase out the TE but he can't until he creates something over the middle. I don't care who you are or even how successful you are at it- you must attack the middle. The rookie needs to run some crossers"

"Do the Titans have a big slot? Can Elic play that? Chig did fine for the job he was given but with no over the middle passing game, the Broncos were able to double up both outside receivers. I think Elic can win one on one and that's why he's starting but he's not beating double coverage. No one on the Titans is."

Elic Ayomanor caught 4-of-6 targets for 56 yards and a touchdown in the Titans’ Week 2 loss to the Rams.

Ayomanor saw seven targets in Week 1 but failed to do much with a healthy diet of downfield targets, reeling in just two passes for 13 yards. He and Cam Ward looked to be on the same page this time around, especially on an improbable touchdown in the third quarter. Ward evaded pressure and heaved a pass across his body for a nine-yard red zone score. Ayomanor also made an incredible catch just before the touchdown, pinning the ball to his body with one hand while fighting off an LA defender for a 23-yard gain. Ayomanor is already shaping up to be a late-round hit for fantasy managers, even if his deep-shot role will create an absurdly inconsistent scoring profile. He will work his way into the WR4 ranks for his Week 4 matchup with the Colts.

Good looking WR
He's got issues but he works through them nicely.

No one else, no one! is doing well as a pass catcher.
His 56 yards felt like 100 amidst the others.

It's still not really the hot hand setup Callahan said it would be.
Van was sprinkled in, Dike was too.
Late drive, Van was good. He showed a rapport with Cam too coming back to help when he was pressured.
Dike wasn't. I mentioned in game thread. It was like three bad plays by him.
Lockett had a catch early and late and I don't think any in between.
Ridley continues to smile and run wrong routes and have drops. He had a few catches.

Chig had 2-3 hit his hands. He lined up wide and made a nice play but "they can't play him there."
Gunnar seemed like last week. In early then disappears.
No Oliver at WR as expected.

So who is Elic's competition?
So maybe Elic gets 100 yards a week but woah hold on the kid has 13 and 54 yards. That isn't special.

His next problem will surely be defenses taking him out because why not him?

The opportunity could be so wonderful for him right now it's just ...the offense looks putrid and idk but I think it makes him look better than he is.

Promising, impressive, keep it up, but gotta force some context here

Wouldn’t be shocked if he outscores Ridley this year and ends up the #1 with Ward. Pretty impressive start for him. Will be interesting to see how Ward and Ayomanor’s chemistry grows over the course of the season

OC Nick Holz: @elicayomanor studies all the time, is smart. He was really good at making contested catches in college, and is doing that with us

We knew this so it's really not news.
We know Restrepo said something about being the AV guy and studies night n day with Elic and Cam.

Who else is there?
My reporter friends blow me off when I ask this.

I don't think it's necessary. Ridley or Lockett could have a routine. But I love that in sync vibe Elic and Cam are growing and that Restrepo is staying as Cam's bro.

Dike is curiously never mentioned. Is he not in this? Is it cliquey? He's a rookie too.

I wish I knew who else was doing this; if anyone

Got him last week mostly everywhere. Starting him over Ridley in one league and he is currently in over Henderson, Pearsall, and Tuten in my 2nd flex. As of right now. Long way until Sunday.

Anyone get him off waivers?

Spent $1 and was expecting to be outbid. Nobody put in a bid. Ayo is obviously flying under the radar and that's what I was hoping for. WanDale went for $10 btw.
I look at this situation and it's very interesting:
Snap count usage 79% 73%.
First career TD for both him + Ward.
Same target total as Ridley.
No target competition other than Ridley.
Rookie QBs tend to rely on one player they have the best connection with. The translation to the field is instant.
Ward has yet to have that breakout game. And "IF" they both breakout week3 I feel they both will never look back. And Elic will be the waiver pickup of week3.

In the brief time I've seen him, he impresses me even when he doesn't have the ball. Seems like a true "football player" not a guy that's fast so he decided to play football.

He's also really quick to adjust when Cam is flushed from the pocket. I don't know if that's going to translate into FF points, but it's good for the future of the Titans.

Seven and Six targets in the first two games are great for a fourth-round rookie WR, and I'm encouraged by the time he and Cam are spending together. There's no promise he'll pan out long term, but the indications are stronger than the average 3rd round rookie pick at this point in the season.

He’s off to a good start and if the pace continues, he could become a reliable starter over the course of this year.

Excited having drafted both him and Ward in dynasty back in May, he never breaks my lineup this season but the stack potential is really intriguing

Excellent breakdown of his abilities. He also includes where Elic can improve.
Bottom line is when you see these routes in slo mo, Elic is winning them.
His feet stutter is scary fast in stride. And he has another gear afterwards.
How in the world did he fall in the draft?

He's a learning podcaster that talks like a know it all.
He got called out by Kurt Warner and Ryan Fitzpatrick and...a whole slew of names last year for being totally grossly wrong on some film breakdowns and Kurt even did a YT show explaining how wrong.
This year, he actually got BHop to do a show with him. Kudos to him.
He's kinda loud and dominating so BHop and the other guy appear minimized most of the show. He's gotta learn to shush and I say that with an idk much about hosting a show mindset. Hopkins is as good as any with discussing the OL and is a huge deal he's doing a show with Tyler.
It's unbelievable really that he is but Tyler is exceptional at promoting and flaming and stirring the pot. He needs time though. He's figuring everything out and learning. Recently someone pointed out "they're not running your high school offense dude."

He cherry picks plays for videos and gets called out.
He calls himself the most popular Titans podcast but some of them did so well they're now radio shows and being called out by former players and coaches gets you views so. ????

He's gotta learn to disagree peacefully.

I wouldn't doubt the kid does well soon. If it was fifteen years ago here, he'd be lit up for some that he does, but he's on a good path and he is tireless.

I wonder if Hopkins is giving him advice outside of the show.

Anywho, I could imagine he's a considerable (if not big) deal soon enough but make sure you use your FF experience when watching right now.

Sorry for the preamble but this place means a lot to me and a lot of us old timers are touchy about questionable sources.

I didn't watch this.
Yesterday it was discussed how "one guy on YouTube said look at the footwork" and a few of those are not good. He has nervous feet unsure feet. The chat lit up that it was Tyler but host never confirmed. It sure seems so.

I love Derrick Mason talking of Titans WRs and Chris Sanders is pretty good and Marc Mariani on occasion. There's a plethora of former pro WRs.

They lead me to Dike is not ready. Where is Oliver and Van? And Elic still has growing to do.

IIRC another from the game was Elic pushing off too late 2-3 times and he better be careful because that's a penalty if they see it.

Cosell has some blocking concerns and blame for Elic. He has to do better so they don't consider pulling him to get a block. The rest very positive. Oliver did glean a handful of blocking snaps from him in week two.

All of them talk of spacing and route discipline still. He's doing eons better than the preseason but there's still a number of plays where he gets tied up and runs right into traffic. Being on an island, usually on the right, avoids this but he will best flourish when he can vibe with a teammate and feed off each other.

Another point to Van and Oliver being so comfy with Ward is they were comfy with Elic too. Oliver hurt himself on a great ST dive tackle that looked odd so ya kinda knew he hurt himself mid flight. He may sit this week. Van is supposed to play more but it should be at Lockett and Dike's expense NOT Elic's and we all seem to know it'll be Elic because the Titans gotta Titan and why sub out the guys that have awful two game stats. Or Ridley. Pull him after his drops. Zero backing here by coachspeak but just us Titans followers knowing they will sub for the wrong guy. I hope we're wrong. Do you know how long it's been since we had a good looking offense? So the hope is we get to see Van and Elic vibe. They really had some nice pick plays and "you turn deep I turn short" routines that were nice too. I think this is how Elic can get to 90-100 yards and have us excited.

As I relayed, the Titans lacked any presence over the middle in week one. Chig was playing H-back role and he didn't get open. Gunnar was fine early but his passes were near the sideline and then why did he barely play after that? He did good. Why? Last week was much of the same. But DMase was 💯 right that Elic could get open on some crossers and provide that.
So there's this void. Cam has like 3-4 passes over the middle in two games and that must increase and be far more. Do they play Gunnar more? Use Elic more on crossers? Hold the slots accountable? Opportunity is right there and every NFL guy insists teams must attack the middle of the field some and can't ignore it. If this is Elic, that's another spot for an uptick in production.

I like Tyler's shows. I watch them sometimes. Grain of salt please. Former NFL WRs will give ya a better vibe on Elic than anyone else imo.

There is a big positive air of Elic right now but it didn't click for him til mid camp so maybe a month ago. There's a lot of cramming studying going on as they work him through whatever. He's a great learner with great attitude

Appreciate the insight. This is why I continue to browse the Shark Pool.
Hopefully this year Ward continues to grow, elevate the offense + shares of WRs.
The Titans has always been a good source of RBs on my FF team.
I had Chris Johnson when he was a rookie and will always remember late that year when he broke out and took the RB1 role.
We often forget that Derrick Henry was backing up DeMarco Murray.

What are your thoughts on Ward? When will we see that breakout game that elevates the entire offense?

He's a former basketball point guard that still thinks like one. He admires CP3 and some others and gets all star struck giggly when even asked about them.

He must be in sync.
Ayomanor can be running on the break and he hit him for a dunk.
Ridley is playing like a chump and has to be there for the alleyoops.
Notice he throws not to Pollard but, near, he's breaking a press with him.
Maybe Gunnar is like banging it into the post.

It was said at Miami and predraft and kinda got away from it. Now they say he's a spot thrower. No he's leading everyone like a PG does. You run into that and go.

Dike and Lockett who are not in sync look just like NBA subs. They run into the defender and battle unnecessarily for a ball and any chance of YAC is gone.

Van and Oliver I think got 7? more snaps.
(Oliver is probably out) Van should play more and it's been said he'll play more but coach doesn't always do what he says. If he's out there running up the court for Ward to dish to, Ward will get in a zone.

He needs his horses. It's unnecessarily hard for him right now.

Maybe Lockett and Dike get in sync.

There's never been a QB that curl routes were more annoying to watch than Ward. He wants to throw ahead of em'.

When Kurt Warner talks (remember he was excellent at having his track stars catch it n go) it all makes perfect sense.

He's Magic playing with only Worthy right now. He needs his boys. Give him Kareem and Cooper and Byron Scott then he'll run it. And maybe Callahan is that annoying guy that says Magic played Center once. He just doesn't get it.
