WR Jacob Cowing, SF (1 Viewer)

2024 Senior Bowl: Notable weights and measurements from the weigh-ins

Excerpt:

Jacob Cowing shrunk

Arizona listed wide receiver Jacob Cowing as 5-foot-11 and 170 pounds. The Wildcats program was close on the weight; the prolific slot weighed in at 165 pounds.
The height, not so much…
Cowing is on the National roster at a hair over 5-foot-8. His wingspan of 69 1/4 inches makes him a very tiny target, the only player on either roster who didn’t top 70 inches

David J. Gautieri
Jacob Cowing’s prospect profile is eerily similar to Tank Dell’s.

Height/Weight
Dell – 5’8”/165
Cowing – 5’8”/165

Best PFF Receiving Grade
Dell – 89.0
Cowing – 90.0

Career YPRR
Dell – 2.57
Cowing – 2.55

Career ADOT
Dell – 11.8
Cowing – 11.7

Career YAC/reception
Dell – 6.0
Cowing – 6.3

Similarities in profile, sure. Similarities in play, not as much. Cowing has some of the most suspect hands & catching tech. in this years class imo, & needs to read the field better (getting ahead of sticks, manipulating db coverages). TD and JC are not that similar

David J. Gautieri
Tank Dell had issues with drops as well.

10.8 & 7.7% drop-rate in his final 2 years at HOU.

Their drop-rates were also very similar.

Alex Crowe
Totally! And Tank still has drops in the NFL. I’m more speaking to how they attack the ball & their technique when catching. Tank more often than not caught away his body/defender, where as I felt Cowing’s film was littered with body catches & poor technique. Need to dig more!

One guy still being slept on in this DEEEEP wideout class is Arizona's Jacob Cowing.

While they aren't exact same player, Cowing and Houston Texans rookie stud Tank Dell have almost identical measurables (both 5083v & around 165 lbs) and similarly dynamic tape.

Here's Cowing's most 𝘿𝙚𝙡𝙡-𝙞𝙨𝙝 route from @seniorbowl week.👀

Same type of separation burst that made Dell a fantasy steal last year.

Our @seniorbowl player comp for Arizona WR Jacob Cowing this fall was former Pro Bowler DeSean Jackson and the former NFL GM who scouted him was with Jackson in the league so he knows firsthand what that game speed looks like.

If Cowing can get his shuttle times down at @ArizonaFBall pro-day, this could be an RAS @MathBomb 💣 match.

Too bad we dont GAF about helping our QB cause this WR class is special Jacob Cowing is turning into one of my favorite watches 🐱🧙🏾

Jacob Cowing | WR | ARI

Slot WR with instant burst and ability to hit top speed. Exceptional 2-way go route runner and elite stop/start ability. Showcases some ability to win at the LoS & downfield as a Z WR but projects best to a reliable slot WR at his size.

Thread started in 2022. Most likely a nothingberg. BUT, he plays for Shanny Jr. and Ayiuk may or may not this year.

Elite Drafters
Every Jacob Cowing play.

• 70 total yards on 5 touches
• 4x First Downs 👀
• 3x 3rd down conversions
• 38-yard deep catch
• 19-yard end around
• 2x return kicks

Notice he had slow down on deep play, QB under threw. Otherwise easy TD. 🚀

“Cowing continues to stand out in practice. Midway through Wednesday’s session, fellow rookie Tanner Mordecai dropped back and found Cowing streaking across the field, then feathered a pass just out of reach of Luter and safety Jaylen Mahoney. Cowing caught it on the run for a touchdown that also was the longest pass play of the day.
Cowing also caught the only touchdown pass during a red zone session at the end of practice, a short strike from Joshua Dobbs on which Cowing easily shook his defender for the easy score. He would have had a second earlier in the drill, but Green knocked away Brock Purdy’s pass.”

Sleeper this year if Pearsall is given a redshirt year after the shooting?
I like Malik Washington a little more than Cowing. Cowing is faster, but Malik is more physical, has a better vertical, could occasionally play outside. Both should play mostly in the slot, and benefit from attention given to the alpha WRs. Isn't Jennings ahead of Cowing, plus Kittle in 4-wide? Malik could be Miami's best slot option to start the year.

Not sure Washington will amount to anything and Jennings is what he is. In dynasty I'd rather have the dart throw at Cowing, but I get it, you need guys who will get some volume to fill out your roster. Not that I think Jennings is a guy who will get any kind of volume.

Both Washington and Cowing are dart throws. Malik has a better chance to get early season action before (if ever) OBJ comes back. I think he's better than Berrios, a little more separation ability after Berrios bulked up too much, although they may trust Berrios more for route running. Malik has looked good on end-arounds and screens, he has good vision and isn't easy to bring down at 5'8" 190lbs, 85% in bench. His college tape was full of DBs missing tackles. He has a 42.5 vertical (99%!) so he has athleticism. I think the high-end comp for Cowing would be Tank Dell, but there are so many weapons in SF, including great receiving weapons at TE and RB. Tyreek (thumb) and Waddle (leg, undisclosed) are dealing with injuries that aren't expected to keep them out of games 1, but will they be 100%?

5th and 6th round WR draft picks don't usually amount to anything, but this was a deep WR draft.

"Jacob Cowing is doing a lot of the same things Ray-Ray McCloud did for the 49ers the last two seasons, including returning punts. The jet sweep, however, underscored the difference between the two — Cowing is a burner and McCloud was not."
