WR Jalen Tolbert, DAL (1 Viewer)

They seem super weak at WR.
Once a week a radio caller asks if Tolbert is that good or the depth is just not so he stands out.
I'm watching for some FF gold here for sure.

I liked Tolbert as a prospect, but he was always gonna be a project. I think the #3 job is his for sure, I do think people are underrating Brandin Cooks a bit. He's still a solid WR, he's just not the playmaker he once was. Jake Ferguson is also a very solid TE, who could very much keep ascending. So Tolbert could have a breakout season while still catching maybe only like 40 balls.

I have thought Cooks was 31 32 for like three years now and he's only 30. I can't explain it. Just oof on my part.

That said, he was always meh as a WR and then woohoo look at him go. I question his value if the fun part of his game is gone OR if I'm just premature with that as I've been

“the Jalen Tolbert hype is real. It needs to carry over to regular-season games, but Tolbert has been the No. 2 receiver and drawn the attention of some of the top players in the Cowboys’ secondary, which is a talented group. Tolbert has responded by consistently getting open, and Dak Prescott has gone his way a lot. They haven’t always connected, but Tolbert has rarely dropped catchable passes and made a lot of great plays along the sidelines.”

My sharp buddy and I both like him. I don't know what his upside is, but he should see plenty of space across from CeeDee Lamb. If he ends out beating Cooks that's a great sign, because I believe Cooks still has a lot to give and if coach says the rookie has more to give than Cooks, then green light, go.

But a year stuck behind Cooks and I would suddenly lose interest.

He’s not a rookie

That's my bad!! I came home from the bar piss drunk when I posted this. Sober me knows he's not a rookie, but drunk me was on a collision course with himself.

Not bad for grammar for a drunk guy though. Should have ran this pass my copy editor.

Sorry for the misinformation.

He’s the current apple of my eye. Matt Harmon was asked on Reception Perception 2 weeks ago to throw out 2 names he thought could bust out in the next while. He named Tolbert and McCaffrey at Washington.

Annoyed I didn’t try trade for him before last weekends game, and am now trying to do so. Being 2nd receiver on that Dallas team has a lot of room for points and yes Ferguson, but if Tolbert continues to impress he will get plenty of targets

Matt Harmon
Jalen Tolbert will be a big cautionary tale against completely writing off receivers who don't contribute as rookies. The guy had 2 catches as a rookie in 2022 but is legitimately playing good football for the Cowboys now. Not sure what the ceiling is but he's a contributor.

Desperate for a wr2 w/byes and injuries. Is Tolbert fools gold or is worth a look? I picked him up for free after he wasn't claimed. Is he a better start over someone like JSN? Is he a legit 3rd option behind CD and Fergy?

Crystal ball says…

I think he is talented enough to continue to get targets as the chemistry between him and Dak has grown. Hard to say what that will look like from game to game, but if teams are looking to focus on Lamb he should be the benefactor.

Cooks on IR and I'd expect that the Dal/Det game will be a high scoring game. JSN also a good option though.

I have been holding Tolbert for several weeks as I see him feasting in the passing game Dallas runs this year. Their RB room is suspect at best.
Same here ... Detroit has #2 Run Def and #30 Pass Defense so I don't see a lot of run schemes having success so I expect Dak to heave it 50x for Dallas in a Shootout game!

Starting Tolbert over Shakir & Ridley

I’m starting him with confidence this week over Olave in one league if that helps.
Wicks was a sure thing last week, so you never know.
Oh, I’m aware. I started him in two leagues and it cost me the win in one because I started him over Tee.

Targets should be a bit more funneled in this offense, though. It’s Lamb, Ferg, and Tolbert. And they are going to have to be throwing against Detroit.

Thing is, Wicks was targeted, he just didn't complete the deal. Really only at fault for 2 or 3 of the drops. That said, as a Packers fan, Love will spread the ball around and there are mouths to feed with Doubs returning.
