WR Jamal Agnew, JAX (1 Viewer)

Jaguars signed WR/KR Jamal Agnew, formerly of the Lions, to a three-year contract.

The deal is supposedly worth "up to" $21 million, which would be an astonishing sum for a return man with 16 career catches. Agnew is one of the most dangerous special teamers in the entire league, while the Jags have money to burn. New coach Urban Meyer perhaps thinks he has found an edge. It is, of course, possible Agnew will have a bigger role on offense after catching 13 balls in 2020. He turns 26 next month.

Jamal Agnew caught 5-of-6 targets for 78 yards in Week 6 against Miami.

It's the second straight week Agnew has had a major role in the Jacksonville pass game. Agnew has benefitted the most from D.J. Chark going on IR, posting 11 catches for 119 yards on 13 targets over the last two games. Agnew's post-Chark usage has him on the PPR radar.

One of my favorite sleepers going forward...however I'm not too interested in the Jags 3rd or 4th option. He has a lot of explosiveness. Surprised they are not using Shenault in this role but forcing him outside to deal with DB's

Huh. I had added him a dynasty a week or so back after watching his toe tap in London. What's all this news coming down?

eta* Holy cow. He's that guy in a Meyer offense?

I'm positively giddy. I added him thinking he might be a WR3 in that offense, a la Chark (who I lost). Now Meyer wants him to be King Explosion? I'm signing up.

Is this Meyer's C Patt? What he wanted Etienne to be? Because it seems clear he doesn't want Viska doing it

Might start him in a start 3WR league with AB on the mend and renfrow on bye. Only other options are waiver wire guys like Kalif Raymond, Osborn and possibly Mooney if my claim goes through.

I grabbed Agnew in 3 different deep keeper/dynasty leagues but I'd have a hard time starting him over Mooney (although Fields/Nagy makes it closer I suppose)

Yeah my claim for Mooney went through so I’ll be starting him. Gonna keep an eye on Agnew though. If he puts in another solid PPR week, then he could be useful in a 3WR+ flex league such as mine.

I’m starting him. I lost AB and Adams. I was super thin behind these guy’s to begin with. The beauty of Agnew is he is a threat to break a long one on any play.

You never know how it’s gonna go after a bye. He may become a thing or back to just returning kicks.

Yeah the latter is what I’m worried about. Maybe they’ve changed things coming out the bye, gonna wait just one more week and if he gets another 6-7 targets out the slot, could prove useful for my format.

Good a flyer off WW as any. I'm in bad shape in a couple spots and need to throw this guy in there. 15 targets the last two games so we shall see.

Jamal Agnew caught 6-of-12 targets for 38 yards and a touchdown in the Jaguars' Week 8 loss to the Seahawks.

Agnew led the Jaguars in targets but Dan Arnold passed him in receptions and receiving yards. Arnold and Agnew appeared to be the focal points of the Jagaurs' game-plan. Both players were used on a slew of underneath routes but neither did a ton with the immense volume. Agnew has a massive edge over Laviska Shenault, who was targeted just four times in this game. With 17 receptions in his previous three games, Agnew is now a viable WR4/5 while Shenault can be cut in most leagues.

12 targets this time, good enough to play for me in a 3WR + flex league with Ridley and AB out. Not a bad week in PPR.

I have not watched a Jags game with Agnew at WR. Some people seem to be wondering if he will get an RB designation, so presumably he's been lining up at RB on some plays.

Can anyone share any insight if there is credence to an eventual designation? Obviously his value changes a lot if that happens.

These are the type of pick ups I don't ever see finding your starting lineup.  I'd much rather take a flier on a backup RB because of the way starting RBs have been dropping this year.

Agree. Especially this week against BUF D.

I just don't see the JAX offense finding any kind of efficiency or consistency to the point where you'd play anyone except J. Robinson.

Look at Marvin Jones. Big preseason sleeper. Yeah great. Can give you a TD here or there or close to a goose egg. There is no floor with these type of options.

I thinks its only because hes #39 but thats due to him being a former CB. In no way, shape, or form is he a RB

I agree if you are picking him up to be your WR 6 or 7. In my case my  receiver core is devastated. He s getting targets and scoring some points. He still might have some untapped potential. He helped me last week.

Well... my opponent last week started him at WR3 in our league and beat me with his 17.05 pts. One pt/20 ret. yds, 1/2 pt PPR. Not a bad bye week filler. Depends where you're thin I guess, but he's been pretty solid last few weeks in our league. 25 targets, 17 catches last 3 games. You could do worse.

I don’t get the pass attitude here. If you are in need of a WR or flex position, then hurry up and go scoop this guy up. They are always in catch up mode, every game.

Larger meta question but Agnew personifies it:  a wr 3 type with a floor of about 8 points and a ceiling of likely 15 is worth what exactly In fantasy?

(I’ve often thought of a study on “positional points” for starting spots but it seems somewhat complex so this is a better concept)

when you look at players at the end of the year with a stat line of 65 catches, 650-800 yards and about 5-7 TD’s what is their actual value?  Obviously you’d prefer to have your top 3 wideouts be kupp, cooper, and aj brown but when you start 4 (or 5  bc of flex positions) what are these “plug in” guys worth?

I missed at every wr position this year in one draft (Alan Robinson, Odell, Gallup, Robby Anderson) so it’s ugly for me. Managed to trade my only good wr (Keenan Allen) and get cooks and manny sanders in return so a guy like Agnew is the perfect marginal number 3 guy. The rest of my team is holding up to squeak out some wins but I need wrs who at least are getting targets and sniff the ball near the end zone.

I understand the logic between handcuff RBs and marginal WR.  Obviously league type and size come into play here.  But to cover bye weeks, handcuff RBs don't really work.  I had to drop McNichols before last weekend due to byes, as an example.

I'm willing to take a flyer (short-term, at least) on Agnew because he's essentially a blank slate.  This is really his first chance as a WR playing regularly.  Maybe he runs with it; it's probably more likely he doesn't, but at this juncture in the season, I don't see why you wouldn't shoot for upside when there are so few players with upside remaining.

In my league he's been a viable flex option for three consecutive weeks.

Between him, Shenault and Jones, no real pecking order has been established to speak of and if one is going to be established, I don't think Shenault will be at the top of it. We're 8 weeks in and IMO, it's time to parse out the "We've got to get X more involved" coachspeak and deal with what actually is / isn't happening rather than what should be.

Jamal Agnew caught 3-of-5 targets for 27 yards in the Jaguars' Week 9 win over the Bills, adding one rush for 11 yards.

Agnew had a nice 23 yard catch and run on a 4th-and-2, but he also dropped a touchdown. Lawrence struggled to get anything going, totaling just 118 yards on 26 attempts. Agnew continues to look like weak fantasy option, but has enough TD upside to make him viable as a FLEX fill-in, assuming Lawrence can improve his passing numbers in a better Week 10 matchup with the Colts.

Took a seventy-one yarder to the house yesterday. 0-5 on targets.

Decent day from that one play, really. Wonder if he's not a boom-or-bust guy other than in return leagues, of which I belong to two (his numbers look way better in those leagues).

High percentage chance he's fools gold, but you never know I suppose.

Yeah, he's flashed, but depending on him is a different story. Still, in a return yardage team I'm on, he scored about the equivalent of seventeen-plus standard points. In another league he scored even more (that league gives double yards for yardage, so I haven't quite figured out how to normalize it). I'll take it. I just hope he keeps seeing targets and touches. That's what to watch for. Because he can surely house a play.

He also got a little dinged yesterday in his hip. Watch for that.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports Jaguars WR/KR Jamal Agnew will miss the remainder of the 2021 season with a hip injury.

Rapoport confirmed that Agnew would miss the remainder of the year shortly after he was placed on injured reserve. Agnew suffered the injury in the fourth quarter of his Week 11 game versus the 49ers. His absence will force the Jaguars to use Laviska Shenault on an every-down basis. The second-year receiver has peaked at an 80 percent snap share in a game this year with Marvin Jones and Agnew seeing the field on two-receiver sets. Shenault could become a fantasy-relevant option with Agnew out but the Jacksonville offense has struggled mightily this year. He'll still be behind Jones and possibly Dan Arnold for targets as well. Shenault can only be trusted for WR4/5 numbers in the Jaguars' Week 12 matchup with the Falcons.
