WR Jameson Williams, DET (13 Viewers)

If he had bet from his home there would be no violation.
That is kind of f-d up.
Yes but it's in the rules

Meanwhile every sports show is sponsored by FanDuel.
All these players had to do was follow one simple rule but let's blame the NFL instead of them!!!!!
He did something against the rules and should face the punishment.
The rule is really dumb.

Both things can be true
Yeah, sure. Not sure how that refutes what I said. Some people in here are blaming the dumb rule. There's many laws that I don't agree with. It doesn't give me the right to violate them.

Unless you're trying to say these players are heroes for standing against the injustice of this terrible rule.
No, I'm just saying it's a dumb rule. Because it is.
Make it legal or not. Either say no sports gambling period, or make it ok to bet wherever you are.
This isn't exactly the same as pounding shots at the facility here.

I'm sure the NFL has it's reasons. Even if those reasons made zero sense, who cares?
Is gambling such a necessity that you need to do it at work?

My work blocks gambling sites in the office. Should I be outraged?

It's two conversations.
Dumb players.
Dumb rule.

How did anyone even find out? Most likely they were talking about it out in the open because they didn't know they were in the forbidden zone.

And the problem seems to have been a cultural one in Detroit which nabbed several recievers and several staff members. The Lions acted swiftly and appropriately based on the rules.

This is hardly the end of the world for Jamo. He still gets to do all the pre-season drills including playing in pre-season games. He misses being with the team for the first three weeks and then can join the team for week 4 practices and then play in week 7. He is dying to get out there and play, but this is on him.

Yeah I am on that page, but at the same time, its to stop a slippery slope from a bunch of guys that really/usually aren't that smart to begin with. Gotta be hard on these rules so a precedent isn't set. The NFL, especially with a Vegas team and partnering with various sports betting sites/apps absolutely cannot afford a tarnished look in the eyes of fans so games don't looked "rigged/fixed" etc. They have enough problems with officials having too much impact on games the last thing they need is people openly wondering about players and their betting habits. If you REALLY want to gamble just play by the rules, get an uber etc to the place where its legal. Same goes for partying/driving drunk - IF YOU MUST, sure, but don't be a dummie about it, go get an uber.

As much as I think players should be able to bet on games they’re not involved in or other sports (I know, many disagree); that these guys did this after Calvin Ridley was suspended for similar bets, is just dumb.

Also, as noted earlier, there’s a mandatory meeting - for the entire org - every training camp, outlining the league policy. Rookies get a separate meeting as part of their onboarding process. Every team, every year.

They can’t claim ignorance.
Sure. But when you see another fairly high profile player lose a season for a violation, that should hit home even more than the briefing.
When I brief our employees I tend to discuss examples. It works better.
Is there any other examples of a player doing something legal but being suspended because they did it somewhere they weren't allowed?
Drinking alcohol is legal. Try doing it at most work places.
Wait, doesn't every workplace have a mandatory desk bottle policy?

My old employer's employees would be rolling in their graves in they weren't allowed such amenities.

I mean they're literally dead, but not literally rolling.

(We had so many offices with bottles that I turned my cubicle into a desk with two bottles on the shelf. True story. My company's response to this was to give me an office. That's also true.)

If we are just throwing ideas out there, I would maybe be on the phone with the Rams vis a vis Cooper Kupp.

#18 for Kupp? Rams are clearly a #1 pick contender, and might want to get out while the value is still high.

Alternatively, maybe Hopkins, or even Mike Evans could be available for the right price, I just leaned Kupp, because he's better than those guys, and Brad Holmes has his Rams ties.

ETA: Probably would have been at least nice to keep Chark now.
The Packers got a 1 and a 2 for Adams. Kupp is 18 months younger. I would guess it would take more than the #18 pick to get Kupp.
Adams wasn't coming off a season ending injury though, and is a just a better WR, with a much better track record.

Maybe #18 and like a 4th and 5th?

Now that we’re teleworking :banned:

I mean, really, who just sat here and told everybody Jamo was immature and not ready for prime time.

I thank ilov80s for erasing from my head the thought of acquiring him at a good cost to me.
I am sick over it though. I wanted to be wrong. Still hope this gets the message through to him and he gets it together. He certainly did show some small flashes last year.

Many people had the Lions drafting a TE in the 2nd round and a WR in the 3rd. If they want speed, perhaps Gibbs comes into play in the 2nd round.

Kupp has averaged 108 ypg with Stafford. He didn’t come close to that with Goff, so maybe not the best idea to pair them together again.

Oh, I know the feeling.

I thought that Woody Johnson got involved with the GM'ing the Jets were doing and is responsible for the Rodgers fiasco and weird FA signings. Reports are he was indeed responsible for the delay. We shall see if it works. I think it won't. It's a sick feeling based on leaks and such, but it might turn out to be true. Smoke, meet fire.

The NFL are hypocrites but what else is new.
If I was one of these dudes who got suspended, and didn't really have a career, I would find an ambitious lawyer who wants some camera time.
Not sure what the lawyer will do? The CBA is what it is.

As a Jameson owner, I don't figure it as a big deal, prospect-wise. If he was your WR2 or 3 it sucks, yes.
I disagree. Lions could make a big trade for an established WR that bumps Jamo down the pecking order. Lions could draft a WR who then gets a 6 game ramp to pass Jamo. Lions could just be frustrated in general and who knows how that plays out- when coaches don't like a player, it can get ugly. This could also be a big warning sign for the maturity level of Jamo. This drops his dynasty value to me beyond just the 6 games he loses.

TE is certainly in play but how much does that move the needle for their offense in 2023? Probably not much. I could live with Gibbs but I wouldn't be happy.

If I held Jamo I'd be contacting any owner who saw fit to acquire Ridley at a cost and ask if they were interested. Guys that buy the dip might be interested.

It's amazingly stupid, but it's 6 games. He could have pulled a hamstring to the same effect. I don't think you re-shape your whole draft strategy over it.
I gave Ridley a hard time for this and I have to give Jamo a harder time. How dumb can you be? He did this at the team facility, I have to drop him in my rankings.

Brad Holmes on Jameson at the League Meetings last month

Per IG and Twitter - Jamo was in Vegas last night with his homies watching Tank Davis beat Garcia. Driving around with stacks of cash, people smoking & toking, his buddies were joking about how much they're betting on the fight. Young man is free to live his life however he wants, at 22 you just want to have fun.

Personally I think he's very immature and is not surrounding himself with quality people....OK boomer, right? Just not a good look for a guy who just got pinched for 6 games. Even if you're not doing anything wrong, why not just go have fun instead of giving trolls an excuse to doubt you?

I'm hopeful he will turn it around, but I've seen guys on this path before. He's playing with fire, habitual line stepping. Not saying he's banging....but he def admires and is adjacent to bloods culture. End of the day, it's on him to get it together. If he doesn't, when he is removed from the roster it will be like taking a rock out of the creek. The water just fills in; ain't nobody bigger than the team.

Easily talented enough to be a ten year vet. If he flames out in Detroit, on talent alone he'll get chance after chance barring injury or legal troubles.

Is that first paragraph referring to things posted last night (April 22) by Jameson? As in, verifiably, that is what he was doing last night?

His socials and crossposts of his friends (people were reposting on Twitter) - he was wearing the same clothes as his IG. Looks like they made a weekend of it for a friend's birthday, earlier they were in the desert riding quds. (ASIDE to @Ilov80s - figured out what "skully down" means lol, they put silkies on before they put on their motorcycle helmets.)

They weren't waving around guns or doing lines. Weed is legal a lot places, people can vape if they want. Jamo was not doing anything illegal. There's a picture of him with stacks 100s all the way down his arm and one leg, sitting in his car with the door open. Lot of code speak and I'm old so not even sure what they mean sometimes lol.

You're allowed to have fun. 22 is gonna 22, when your boy has a birthday nothing wrong with using it as an excuse to party and take in the fight of the year. it's just I wish he would go do that stuff without posting about it because it just alienates white people.

This is not new, he's been posting weird cryptic stuff from day 1. Doesn't make him a bad guy, but when you just got in trouble and people have questioned to work ethic, no reason to give them ammunition. Maybe be low key and just keep your head down eh.

He either gets it together or he flames out, don't care one way or another. Team ought to have a Plan B just in case in goes south. Hope he refocuses but I'm not losing sleep over it.

Who questioned his work ethic?

No direct criticisms that I’m aware of, just speculation last month bc of oblique comments by Brad Holmes and Dan Campbell. At the time people said fans were overreacting. Then when workouts began on Monday , team posted over 100 photos of groups of players lifting $ working out, every significant Lions player was there except no Jamo. Again fans speculated, and again people said calm down. On Thursday Brad was questioned about it, said Jamo was in the building the day before, didn’t elaborate.

Nothing on fire, just some smoke.

Ironically, I gotta choose between keeping him or Ridley this year 😂

Yikes. This is worse than the suspension situation in my eyes.

The biggest difference between someone like ARSB and Jamo is having a strong father figure in the home, IMHO. Jamo is extremely self-driven but lacks that guidance to keep him on track. Hopefully, some people in the Lions organization can step in and be that figure.

Come on let's not bring that into this. There are lots of great NFL players that have come from broken homes and lots of busts that came from great homes.

Yeah, there is a guy from Akron Ohio that comes from a single parent home and he's done ok.

My dad has always been in my life, I would have fumbled the LeBron bag

After a day of sitting with this, I have to give him some grace.

Just a kid having fun. He’ll be ready.

Right?

If he surprises me so much the better. I’m expecting we’ll need a plan B, but rn it’s too early to pivot.

Maybe I'm just Roger Too-White, but as soon as I start seeing those stacks of hundreds in a bundled brick, handled with carelessness and for show, I worry. It seems like people are either under the influence or about to get shot when they start posting that. I know it's something that originated with Soundcloud rap and crossed over into more mainstream stuff, but it usually ends badly or has a reason behind the flaunting of such wealth that is at best wildly immature and crass, and at worst, sinister and portending awful things to come.

Roger? It's me, your brother Jim. Didn't know you were on this website. I agree that this kind of thing is a less-than-good omen. Outward expression of a bad attitude inside, which is always worrisome as a prospect. (I'm no saint, I wouldn't feel good about investing in my own attitude, either.)

Per IG and Twitter - Jamo was in Vegas last night with his homies watching Tank Davis beat Garcia. Driving around with stacks of cash, people smoking & toking, his buddies were joking about how much they're betting on the fight. Young man is free to live his life however he wants,

Don't see those pics on his twitter or IG..... have links to them?
