WR Jarvis Landry, Saints (2 Viewers)

Was Moore a dink and dunk guy the season be started? If so, this may raise Landry'a floor back to where it was earlier in the season.

NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reports the Dolphins are expected to let contract-year WR Jarvis Landry play out the final season of his deal.

The writing has been on the wall for this. Owner Stephen Ross and coach Adam Gase have both strongly indicated extending Landry's deal was never a priority, and the Dolphins' run-game emphasis lessens Landry's tactical value as a volume-dependent slot receiver Miami's higher-ups likely view as replaceable. The Fins want to use their high-volume run game to set up more vertical shots to speedsters Kenny Stills and DeVante Parker on the perimeter. The Dolphins may revisit talks with Landry after the season, but they clearly do not value him as a true No. 1 receiver. The Fins never so much as made Landry a contract offer this offseason.

His contract worries me a bit. I think hes going to want more than the Phins are gonna be willing to pay and im not sure he compiles the targets he does in Miami on many other teams.

This may have been a year early.

I do think there are some interesting analysis such as fantasy points per game over/under expectation done here that obviously did not pan out in 2016.

Landry improved his yards per reception and yards per target in 2016. He has improved his efficiency each season. He has a career yards per target of 7.4 but this was 8.6 in 2016 which is pretty good.

He did have 35 fewer targets. The Dolphins only threw the ball 477 times in 2016. A number that is likely going up in 2017.

Andy Slater of WINZ reports Jarvis Landry is under investigation for battery.

Slater reports the incident involves Landry's girlfriend, who is also the mother of his child, although she reportedly has not been cooperating with police. Slater reports the Fort Lauderdale police department has forwarded the case to the State Attorney's office, but a decision on possible charges is not expected this week. Dolphins coach Adam Gase said the team is aware of the investigation.

Sounds like someone drumming up a story when there isnt one, conveniently around the talks of him getting a new deal and whatnnot.... .hmmmm

How do you figure?

It says the Fort Lauderdale police forwarded the case to the State Attorney's office (which means there's some real evidence), so unless you think the reporter is making that part up how is he "drumming up a story".

From the same link:

12:10PM PT -- Estrella Cerqueira, the mother of Landry's daughter, who was allegedly involved in the incident, released the following statement through J.L.'s rep.

“In March of 2017 the father of my child and I had a vocal disagreement that resulted in someone calling 911. I, myself did not call the police. When the police arrived they determined that there was no cause for any arrests nor was there any concern for my physical well-being. There were no arrests made, there were no criminal charges, I was not in any way physically harmed Yes, we are going through a civil family court case and emotions are high, but I would like to make it very clear that Jarvis would never, ever do anything to harm me or anyone else. Jarvis and I are happily raising our beautiful daughter and I would like to make a plea to the media that they refrain from spreading this completely false story.”

Not saying that parts of it arent rooted in fact, just that the timing of it, versus when it happened (almost 6 months ago) seems shady. But it doesnt sound like a crime was committed except for a noise ordinance maybe. Just seems like a story that is old and was forgotten about (likely because it was all smoke and no fire) is all of the sudden a huge issue and theyre insinuating a domestic assault happened, even if they didnt come out and say it in the written article, any blurb or click bait article header would have you believe that if you didnt read anything about it and deduce that nothing actually happened.

If you think its out of the realm of possibility for them to be running some reverse publicity campaign to drive his price down, or drive away competing offers in the future for his services, Id say thats a bit naive.

Anyone hear about this "incident" prior to just recently? Seems to me, if one of the best Wrs in the league was slapping around his old lady in front of their kid, he would be crucified in the media well before now.

So the Dolphins front office strategy is to try and get the public to think a player beats women and then try to sign him at a discount? Seems their PR department would not be on board.

At the very least to overblow something that they know is baseless and give him the impression he needs to be less vocal about contract stuff and hope he accepts whatever number they graciously present to him, the newly labeled trouble maker

Its a fun theory.

Even if its not that malicious, this story just smells to me. In this day in the NFL, an obscure player might get a week or two before someone gets wind of anything "domestic" between a player and spouse/significant other.

You really think that if something physical happened here, that the dolphins, the police, or the abused would give him 5 1/2 months without making noise?

This us crazy to me and any team doing this would be idiots.

I don't know enough about the story. Did the local police just decide to send it to the DAs office or is that old news as well? It would be odd that nothing was reported before.

Anyway it doesn't  look like much will come of this if the "victim" does not cooperate so it's probably a non-story.

Landry will be franchised tagged next season if an extension is not agreed upon next off season.

In the meantime he will continue to be a PPR league asset once again as a solid high end WR2.

I think the Cutler signing hurts his value a little as Cutler will take more chances downfield than Tannehill does.

Yes great point. But it won't be drastic.

And BTW DeVante Parker may be a superb sleeper this season. And now with Cutler who can sling it down field....he can breakout big time as deep threat. The Dolphins will be playing from behind often IMO. Should be a fun year for fantasy production from some Dolphins players, including Cutler. The Phins could have 3 legit guys between Landry, Parker and Stills.

I wouldn't be surprised to see the Phins NOT sign him to a new contract -- he's been a high-volume WR with poor efficiency and has decent (but not great) athletic ability. I'm guessing that the free market will offer more and the Phins wisely decline to pony up the same.

Landry is tough as nails, and a great route runner and very good hands. He is a heck of a WR. Not a true #1 though, so unfortunately he may price himself out of Miami.

And if.....if DeVante Parker emerges his fate will be sealed.

This article also seems to refute his poor efficiency when adjusting for depth: http://rotoviz.com/2017/03/2016s-most-efficient-depth-adjusted-pass-catchers/?hvid=Vv1p4.

According to The Ringer's Mike Lombardi, the Dolphins are "seriously" listening to any trade offers involving Jarvis Landry.

Guy is a great football player.  Reminds me a lot of Hines Ward. Also a good teammate from what I can tell.  Loves the game, and plays it like a pro.

That said, if they feel that his contract demands are going to be too hefty, and they can get a 3rd round pick for him, they should do it.  He is a limited athlete, and if Parker is truly about to become what they are saying he is about to become, you probably cannot pay Landry his current market value to be a second option in the passing game.

This one is a tough one for me.  I think it's probably the right call for them to get rid of Landry rather than paying him.  However, I'm sure that wherever he goes, he is going to explode and then we're going to wish that we kept him.  The problem is that the Dolphins, as constructed, can't take full advantage of him.

The NFL is reportedly investigating a domestic abuse allegation made against Jarvis Landry involving his girlfriend.

The girlfriend refused to press charges after the incident, so Landry was let off by police. The NFL has power to conduct its own independent investigations and hand down subsequent discipline, however, so Landry is by no means out of the woods. Per reporter Andy Slater, the league has possession of a video relating to the allegation against Landry. The Ringer's Mike Lombardi recently reported the Dolphins do not intend to extend Landry's contract and have fielded trade offers.

ESPN's Josina Anderson reports the NFL will meet with Jarvis Landry on October 24 to discuss his previous domestic battery allegations.

The state of Florida opted not to press charges against Landry last month, but we all know the NFL has to stick its nose in and figure it out on their own. It's a similar situation to the current Ezekiel Elliott mess going on in court right now, but Landry's situation is a long way from that. As of now, we don't expect any trouble, but we never know with Roger Goodell running the show.

I think he is a good play this week with Parker out.  I think he will see 10 or more targets with a decent shot at his 3rd TD in as many weeks.

Probably the highest floor outside of elite wr1 plays. Anyone disagree?

I think Landry is really good. Better than I thought he was. Last week he should have had probably 9-130 but Cutler was missing him by 6-10 feet as he was running middle routes.

His value will be determined by where he lands. Im sure he will get paid fairly well. Cobb type money probably. But will it be in Miami? Will it be in New England? Chicago?

I could totally see BB cutting or restructuring edelman and paying Landry-- he is the epitome of a BB player. Plays really really hard all the time. Blocks. Does dirty work. Im just guessing but I bet BB has an infatuation with him.

The Miami Herald doesn't expect the Dolphins to re-sign free agent Jarvis Landry.

The Dolphins haven't shown much interest in extending Landry and look unlikely to meet his demands. Landry is pushing for $13 million annually and won't take a hometown discount to stay in Miami. With DeVante Parker and Kenny Stills under contract, the Dolphins have the depth to move on from Landry. Baltimore has been linked as a possible suitor for Landry if he reaches free agency.

Would be a nice add for Chicago, although he fills a similar role to Kendall Wright.  $13M for a slot receiver is crazy money.  Landry is a good player, but more of a chain mover than a game-breaker.  Someone with a lot of cap space will probably re-set the market for slot receivers with Landry this year.
