WR Jaylen Waddle, MIA (4 Viewers)

Of course on my bench, had stuck with him all season finally threw in the towel this week for some scrub.
+1

Started E Moore WR Cle , who had been on a tear, over Waddle this week. And of course, Thursday night game on the west coast so it’s not like I had time to really research the weather or anything since, like, some of us work. :ptts:

Actually still started him in one dynasty league as didn’t have any alternative, and benched him in my re-draft league where I’ll probably lose. Still… signs of life is at least good

So I have seen the Offensive line issues addressed in this thread and we all can do the math on a Tua injury valley (for the whole offense) but are there any Miami fans here that have heard about anything underlying that ties to Waddle's performance? Nagging injury, philosophical dispute, no motor once the big contract was signed, etc...? I'm trying to tie a read onto a metric and this one just feels enigmatic right now.

Personally I just think they have lent on getting the ball out quick to Jonnu Smith and Achane, plus they prioritise getting Hill the ball downfield. For what it’s worth Matt Harmon says Waddle is still amazing but they don’t design specific plays for him like they do Hill so he just gets what he gets when Tua sees he’s open on standard routes. Work ethic is there ( see Tua and Waddle interview after his good game a few weeks ago ). I’ve also seen games where they have tried to get him involved and it doesn’t quite show up on the box score as the plays haven’t quite come off

Defenses are playing them back a bit, which limits Hill and Waddles chances on the more impactful plays. I guess within McDaniel's system, that opens things up more for Jonnu. That said, I would call that poor adjustments on his part. Wouldn't you rather the YAC come from Hill/Waddle over Jonnu? They're faster and more explosive. Run more bubble screens or quick slants whenever you see the DBs playing back. I honestly haven't watched enough to see what adjustments are being made, but if you think about how the Chiefs were using Rice once DBs were consistently playing back it would be the question in Miami.

I think you are spot on and things are not going a lot better for Hill. I've been saying for awhile I don't think this has anything to do with protecting Tua from hits.

On one hand I want to be critical of McDaniel for failing to adjust. I want to say stuff like if I'm Stephen Ross I want answers to why I'm paying two WR's over $60m a year if you are just going to allow teams to mitigate them without much of a fight.

The counter to all of that is the offense has been working. I'm sure some of these a defensive scoring TD in here but since Tua returned they've scored 27,27,23,34, 34 and 17 points. One sub 23 point game in a very cold weather Thursday game. I can't really quibble with the end results.

If I were the DC, I'd play MIA like teams are playing KC. That would turn Jonnu into Kelce.

So, Phins pivoted back to using Hill/Waddle like we all want them to. Did anyone watch the game closely enough to analyze how the Jets were lining up on them?

At one point, Waddle had 100 yards receiving on MFL, which is a 3-point plateau in my local high-stakes League.

For some reason, it was adjusted to 99 at some point later.

I lost a big game (bye week playoff seeding on the line), by 1 point.

Anyone know what happened?

In all my years playing this game I don't think anyone has pissed me off more than this guy, between the injuries and being the most unpredictable player in the league. Just when it seems he's on a resurgence puts up a friggin goose egg.

Seriously- massive headache of a fantasy player to have

Yeah, I am done with this guy. One of the most overrated fantasy players in recent memory.
