WR Josh Gordon, KC (3 Viewers)

Josh Gordon: I don’t think I’ve hit my pinnacle yetPosted by Josh Alper on April 9, 2014, 2:05 PM EDT

Browns wide receiver Nate Burleson said this week that he’d like to serve as a mentor to Josh Gordon in hopes of making sure Gordon avoids the kind of off-field issues that led to a two-game suspension last year and the resulting potential for a year-long suspension if he should violate the league’s drug policy again.

That’s in the best interest of everyone associated with the Browns. Gordon had 87 catches for 1,646 yards and nine touchdowns in 14 games last season, the kind of numbers reserved for the top receivers in the league. It was just Gordon’s second season in the league and he thinks that there are even bigger things to come.

“I don’t think I really reached my pinnacle yet. I think this is the tip of the iceberg, really. I think I can go a lot higher, a lot further than that,” Gordon said in an interview with the team’s website.

Given that Gordon put up those numbers with subpar quarterback play throughout the season, it’s hard to argue with his opinion. If the Browns can find an answer at quarterback and revive their running game, Gordon’s impact should be even bigger.

I cannot wait to see what this kid does next year. So excited.

Also having Ben Tate there to have the run be a threat can only help him.

Please don't bump this thread when the Cleveland Browns thread is the other most recently bumped thread. Makes me think he did something dumb and has a one year suspension. Crisis averted....this time.

Josh Gordon can't be this bad in the red zone again

By Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com

The Fantasy Football world marveled as Josh Gordon put up historic numbers despite missing two games and then playing with one average quarterback (Brian Hoyer) and two below-average QBs (Brandon Weeden, Jason Campbell).

He led all receivers with 18.9 Fantasy points per game; scored 226 Fantasy points in standard leagues, one fewer than top finisher Demaryius Thomas; became the first receiver in NFL history with back-to-back 200-yard games; embarrassed New England's Aqib Talib; recorded an NFL-best 30 receptions of 20-plus yards; and set numerous Browns' records while averaging 117.6 receiving yards.

A whopping 53 of his 149 targets (36 percent) were uncatchable.

But this is what's remarkable: Gordon was awful in the red zone. And his quarterbacks weren't all to blame.

Gordon tied for 73rd among WRs in red-zone scoring. He drew 18 red-zone targets, tied for 15th-most, but caught just five for 44 yards and a touchdown. He corralled one of 11 targets inside the opponent's 10.

Some of those were bad throws. But in Week 16, Fantasy's championship week, Gordon cost his owners two touchdowns.

First he caught, then dropped a wide-open slant at the Jets' 20 that would have gone for a TD. Then he allowed Dee Milliner to knock a pass away from him at the goal line. Finally, Gordon juggled a 1-yard fade in the end zone before stepping out of bounds.

"I want to do the best that I can do and I never want to let anyone down and miss a play," Gordon told reporters afterward. "I always want to be a guy that can be relied on. It seems as though I've missed a few plays the past few games and it seemed out of character for me. I can't really say what it was. I don't even know, but it wasn't in my character."

At 6-3, 225 pounds, Gordon is a unique blend of size, power and speed. With improved quarterback play, running back Ben Tate and a better No. 2 receiver in Cleveland, Gordon could easily surpass Calvin Johnson as Fantasy's No. 1 wideout. (As it is, Jamey Eisenberg and Dave Richard rank Gordon No. 2 behind Johnson).

One thing is certain -- Gordon won't be that bad in the red zone again.

Can we all wait until we find out who the un-named sources are and if they are credible? sheesh...lets lynch Gordan...someone said he smoked weed and failed a test...it must be true cuz its on the innnnnernet

ooff...not watching tv...only saw this story...i stand corrected...that sucks as i was going to franchise him...oh well zac stacy it is lol

LOVE to watch him play but what an selfish , undisciplined idiot if this is true. He was already on his second chance. And to apparently not let the team know because buffalo bounty aside I assume they would have went WR1 over CB2 if they knew this.

Just further proof that people rarely change. Without his agent and the browns holding his hand and watching his every move he is lost. I really feel bad for this kid. And Blackmon. So much talent, but the desire to indulge in pleasure is too overpowering.

I feel worse for the kids who just missed a roster spot because these idiots took it. Undeserving.

Agreed. I feel bad for both but yes more so for the guy who gets screwed trying to do things the right way. Gordon has so much God given talent I guess he just took it all for granted. Too bad.

Browns' Josh Gordon faces potential suspensionBy Chris Wesseling

Around the League Writer

Less than 24 hours after Johnny Manziel galvanized northern Ohio, we have received word that Cleveland Browns breakout star Josh Gordon is facing another NFL suspension.

Three sources informed of Gordon's situation have told NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport that the wide receiver faces a potential lengthy suspension for a positive drug test. ESPN first reported Friday that Gordon could face suspension.

Rapoport emphasized on NFL Network's 2014 NFL Draft coverage that Gordon's future in Cleveland and with the NFL is in doubt. Gordon's previous failed tests is one reason why former CEO Joe Banner tried to trade him last year, and it is one reason that Gordon has been a frustration to several members of the Browns organization. Rapoport believes Gordon will appeal the suspension.

Gordon was suspended two games and fined four game checks by the NFL for violating the league's substance-abuse policy last year. He also failed at least one marijuana test at Baylor, leading to an indefinite ban.

Although Gordon faced criticism for hanging with the wrong crowd and exhibiting a shaky work ethic last offseason, he realized he was running out of chances and insisted that he had learned his lesson.

Riding high after leading the NFL in 2013 with 1,646 receiving yards in just 14 games, though, Gordon now faces another potential career setback.

The timing of the news is a nightmare for the Browns' brass, but at least they learned of Gordon's 2014 fate prior to the draft.

A wide receiver was already on the agenda before the Browns traded for Manziel. They now have the opportunity to target a promising prospect such as USC's Marqise Lee, Penn State's Allen Robinson or Vanderbilt's Jordan Matthews on Friday night.

The latest "Around The League Podcast" provides instant reaction to all the wild happenings in the first round of the 2014 NFL Draft.

Strange thing is, if the Browns' brass knew that this was coming, how do they pass on Sammy Watkins and trade down? I know they get a 2015 first rounder, but Watkins may be a Pro Bowler for years to come.

Gordon is such a dope, pardon the pun.

Read that owner and upper execs knew, but policy is that they could not share with anyone else in the organization. GM didn't know and the owner is still under the spotlight due to his companies price fixing scheme. Probably best to keep his mouth shut.

25 Reasons to Smoke Marijuana

1) Nobody has ever died from smoking pot.

2) Marijuana users report less depression

3) Marijuana does not cause emphysema, unlike tobacco.

4) Marijuana does not cause cancer (and if you smoke it you are actually slightly less likely to get cancer)

5) THC actually helps cleanse the lungs, preventing tumors

6) Daily marijuana use doesn’t damage your brain.

7) There has never been a study to link marijuana with psychological problems, though it’s not for a lack of trying.

8) Marijuana is NOT a gateway drug.

9) Marijuana fights hardened arteries

10) Marijuana has both stalled the growth of and eliminated brain tumors in rats. Such an experiment has yet to be done on humans.

11) Not that herd mentality is a good reason, but you’re not alone. Marijuana is the US’s number one crop.

12) Sex gets a whole lot better

13) 15 million people smoke it a month (US only).

16) Marijuana can prevent blindness.

17) Marijuana can prevent migraines.

18) Marijuana is less addictive than caffeine. There is no physical addiction but a slight mental addiction can develop.

19) In 1977 the DEA wanted to decriminalize marijuana.

20) Haven’t you always wanted to be able to laugh at Pauly Shore?

21) Because legality isn’t a good enough reason for you to not smoke. Slavery was once legal and sodomy was once illegal; legality is a horrid barometer for morality.

22) Because getting “high” isn’t “bad.” Though you may not realize it, eating meat or candy or fried foods or vegetables or drinking coffee, tea, or soda all effect your mental state. All of these things can make you “high.”

23) Because we don’t yet know all of the benefits of marijuana; the government has tried for years to prove that it is harmful and has consistently failed. Very few studies have explored its benefits.

24) Because you would be in the company of Louis Armstrong, the Beatles, Bob Denver, Bill Clinton, George Bush (okay, never mind him), famous scientist Carl Sagan, Michael Bloomberg, Lewis Caroll, George Washington Carver, Salvador Dali, Al Gore, Steve Jobs, John kennedy, John Wayne, and George Washington.

25) Because it feels good.

lol, so its not his fault

strange, but a 1st from buff is a top 10 pick again; hard to pass up and maybe they thought Evans would be there.

If you side with the NFL against Josh Gordon, you are a moron. There's no justification for it other than blindly following what people with lots of money tell you to do.

But weed isn't addictive.
It absolutely *is* addictive. It's not addictive in the physical sense such as cocaine (although modifying your brain chemistry could potentially change this answer -- the jury's still out on that one), but the psychological impact is just as huge. It's like gambling addiction. There's something in your personality or brain chemistry that makes you crave that particular rush. Calling him weak or a thug is a huge disservice when the kid obviously has a problem. (Edit: the weak/thug comment was in reply to other posters).

That said, give it 5-10 years and marijuana will no longer be banned by the NFL. There's too much evidence showing its effectiveness in pain management and treating concussion symptoms.

I think the main reason it is banned from the NFL is because it is illegal in the majority of the states.
