WR Justin Jefferson, MIN (2 Viewers)

He did put in a limited practice today
Sounds like a long shot to play this week, but next week sounds promising.
Unless they are pulling the wool over our eyes they seem to be trying hard to get out messaging he's not playing this week.

Hopeful for next week as well and as was discussed when he originally got hurt it's a key week because it's less likely he'd return in week 12 before the bye vs giving his injury an extra two weeks of rest.

I find myself wondering how his absence might have impacted his contract negotiations.

They went 4-0 without him. Addison has looked highly capable. This is nothing to do with the obvious high regard the team has for Jefferson but he's very likely going to end up as the highest paid non-QB in the game when he signs his extension and at minimum the highest paid non-QB on offense. I strongly suspect they will end up getting it done, I just can't help but wonder if this has led to some increased discussions/thoughts inside the Vikings front office on how things would look if they went a different direction then extending him.

One thing for sure, whoever is their QB next season is getting dropped into a dream spot.

Let's slow our roll on Addison for just a second.

JJ also took Diggs and made him expendable
What are these numbers you cite about?

Slow our roll on Addison? He has been fantastic. Exceeding even optimistic expectations.

The Vikings would not have Jefferson if they had not gotten the pick for Diggs from Buffalo to use on him.

Be careful about throwing facts into this discussion

Just his yards receiving first 3 seasons

OK yes.

Is your point that Addison will take a back seat to Jefferson when he is back playing?

If so nothing controversial about that.

In regards to the Vikings drafting Jefferson I think they got really lucky. Jefferson was the 5th WR selected in 2020.

He did kind of steal Adam Thielens thunder somewhat because of his talent and Thielen had been a favorite of Cousins up until that point.

In fact that may have been part of what Diggs was unhappy about. Although I think it was mostly about Mike Zimmer wanting to run the ball and Diggs wanting more targets.

In my view Diggs was better than Thielen, but not by a lot.

The Vikings said it...

And then JJ says it...

-Or maybe it's vice versa but it sure looks like nobody is gonna be pushed into playing this week.
Lot of players immediately come off and suit right up
I do think he's less than 100% and a couple more weeks not only wouldn't hurt but might be necessary
I think they wanted to prep the fans and media that it won't be a hasty return just because you see others jump right back

Justin Jefferson (hamstring) was limited in Thursday’s practice.

Jefferson practiced all of last week and has opened this week with back-to-back practice. The Vikings’ star receiver is trending toward a return, but whether or not that return will come in Week 11 is still up in the air. The Vikings still have time to sit Jefferson, as his 21-day window for return was only opened a week ago. Vikings head coach Kevin O’Connell said earlier in the week that Jefferson is in the “day-to-day ramping-up phase,” giving us little to go on as far as Week 11 is concerned. He’ll likely draw a questionable tag on Friday, making his availability one to monitor throughout the week. Unfortunately for fantasy managers, the Vikings play on Sunday night, meaning those hoping to start him may need a late-game and/or Monday night contingency in place if he is ultimately ruled out.

Y’all risking waiting on him this week?
The only risk should be if you did not play someone tonight you otherwise would have played if you knew he was out. That's a tough call if your dropoff is significant.

Other then that if he's off IR he'll play and we'll know that by Saturday afternoon.
Oh, players have to be moved off IR before Sunday?

His practice window has been opened, but he's still on IR. I believe the deadline is 4 pm ET Saturday to take him off IR, which typically happens only if the player will be active on Sunday. If nothing happens, then he's still on IR. He would have to be activated before week 12, or else the practice window closes and he would have to remain on IR for the season.

Vikings listed Justin Jefferson (hamstring) as questionable for Week 11 against the Broncos.

Jefferson has practiced each of the last two weeks and has a chance to suit up in prime time against the Broncos. He carried a questionable tag into Week 10 before officially being ruled out, but with the Vikings being in the thick of the NFC playoff race under new quarterback Josh Dobbs, it wouldn’t be surprising to see Jefferson return in Week 11 if he’s ready — or close to it. If he’s active, fantasy managers should start Jefferson with confidence despite it being his first game back from injury. However, those waiting for more clarity on his status will want a backup plan in place, as the Vikings don’t play until Sunday night.

While the Vikings could activate Jefferson tomorrow this seems less likely to me because Jefferson has not had a full practice yet.

While normally I would think Jefferson is an all pro and does not need a full practice to play well, he has not played with Josh Dobbs yet, so I think a full practice is more necessary for the Vikings to activate him than it would be normally.

Will the Vikings practice tomorrow? That I am not clear about.

I still can't figure out what should be something simple to answer which is will the Vikings practice tomorrow or not.

However since this is the final injury report and no talk about this, I can only assume the answer is no they won't practice again before the game.

Therefore I am leaning towards he won't play until he has a full practice.

I would love to be wrong about this. If anyone has any further information or opinion about this please share that.

Afraid I feel the same as you and think they won't activate him because he's not had a full practice.

Just start reading between the lines. JJ is saying he's not playing until he's 100% but it was KOC's wording that really made me think he was not playing. Said he was listed as limited because that's what he was and the comment that really got me was saying they will continue this kind of ramp up which just indicates to me if he's been ramped up he's not there yet.

At least if he's out he's not missing some incredible matchup as he'd likely get locked up with Surtain. If he's on your teams IR might actually be good news to keep the extra roster spot this week, that's the silver lining I'm going with here.

Although I think it was mostly about Mike Zimmer wanting to run the ball and Diggs wanting more targets.

That's what Thielen alluded to when they were both considered disgruntled in Minnesota. Thielen was a lot less disgruntled than Diggs, but I remember some interviews where Thielen outright complained about the running/passing distribution under Zimmer.

Thielen wasn't chirping at all back in 2014. He was just happy to make the team.

He didn't get to play much in 2015 either even though Patterson was pretty much benched that year.

The Vikings were playing Diggs, Mike Wallace and Jarius Wright that year under Norv Turner. Peterson was still the focal point of the offense then and no one was complaining about the Vikings using him too much. It could be argued that Thielen should have played over Mike Wallace, but Wallace was Norv Turners guy and Zimmer basically let Norv call the shots on offense so he could focus on defense, which is kind of what Zimmer always wanted anyways.

I remember Thielen playing very rarely but he made some nice blocks. At the time I thought he was like Chris Walsh who was a 4th string WR who made a lot of good blocks and occasional 3rd down catches but was never a starting WR.

Thielen didn't get a lot of playing time until his 3rd season in 2016 when Norv Turner quit/was fired early in the season and they switched to Pat Shurmur.

That was the year Teddy Bridgewater got injured before the season started and the Vikings traded for Sam Bradford who played pretty well for 15 games before being injured again the following season and Case Keenum took over.

Shurmur had a connection with Sam Bradford who he coached with the Eagles before being hired by the Vikings.

Bridgewater was Turners guy not Sam Bradford. There was a rift between Norv and Zimmer forming already, part of why Shurmur was brought in. The coaching change came along with the QB change. I don't know if Sam Bradford liked Norv Turner. The Vikings were in emergency mode when Bridgewater got injured and I'm sure Shurmur sold the Vikings on trading for Bradford, even though rumors were out there that Bradford was damaged goods.

What you are talking about happened later after Mike Zimmer fired DeFlippo for passing too much the first year the Vikings had Kirk Cousins.

Thielan and Diggs both had 100 reception seasons, but Zimmer was not happy because they didn't win enough games.

Diggs and Thielen are like we did our jobs.

Kind of crazy looking back on all this drama.

This is why the Vikins went with an offensive minded head coach. There was just too much turnover on offense to have any continuity.

One thing coaches want is control of as much as they can. Zimmer felt that passing the ball too much hurt what he cared about, his defense.

Anyhow Thielen was Mr Mankato before Diggs got there the season afterwards and was Mr Mankato that year. But Thielen had to wait for his 3rd season to get a chance to shine and maybe never would have if the Vikings had kept Norv Turner. Just to try to bring this all back to my initial post about it.

Looking back at this saga you can see how the coaches relationships with the QBs changes everything. If Teddy Bridgewater was not injured then Norv Turner keeps the job most likely and hard to say if Thielen would have gotten his shot or not.

Eta- sorry I thought this was the why do teams have QBs who can't play thread not the Jefferson thread.

Must been one of the worst hamstring injuries in NFL history to be out this long. Even Kupp only missed 4 games.

Jelani Woods has been out since training camp with a hamstring injury and I'd also add it's not apples to apples vs Kupp since he had his hamstring before the season, which gave him more then 4 games/weeks to return.

Not great for those of us trying to make playoffs in the high stakes leagues will only have him available for either 1 or 2 more regular season games depending on site.

Or potentially none if the regular season ends before week 14.

If he were to come back week 12, wouldn't players in a lot of leagues have him for 3 games? Week 12, week 13, week 14.

ETA: Oh, a bye, duh.

Not being activated this week.
Yeah.

I didn't get around to it until just now but listening to KOC's press conference he is asked directly if Jefferson needs to have a full practice before being activated, and although KOC does not say 100% that this is the case he pretty much says that is what needs to happen before they will activate him.

So we should be looking for that full practice before getting any hopes up that he will play I think.

Minnesota had the only bye week slot this year that really hurt Jefferson owners.

If he had a bye any other of the bye weeks he either would not have got hurt week 5 or 1 of the injured weeks would been a bye week.
Terrible luck his bye week was 13 the only time that screwed us over.

To add to the pain they play on Monday next week so we may not know if he's coming off IR until the Sunday early games have kicked off. And for sure probably not till after the 4 games on Thursday/Friday have concluded.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but if he's not activated for next week, then his season is over, as the 3 week window will have expired. With that in mind, I would think he's almost surely playing next week.

I read they could wait until after the week 12 game to activate him. Which checks because I think they designated him to return on November 8th, which gives them until Nov 29th to activate him and they play week 12 on the night of Nov 27th.

FFS stop annoying me across many re-draft and dynasty leagues and just get your *** back out there

Signed

Probably.

It's possible he could have a full practice and be activated from IR before then, but yeah be ready for it to go to the wire.

It's possible the Vikings activate him but don't play him the week they do as well if they don't feel he is 100% yet.

I'm sure they activate him before that deadline. That just doesn't necessary mean he plays once they do.

Again I think its about the full practice before they let him play.

KOC talking about about the bye week giving them a free week on the 21 day window and Jefferson sending out tweets this morning telling fantasy owners to suck it, his career is more important.

It's certainly beginning to sound a lot like week 14.

For sure I'd not be sitting any strong options that play Thursday or Friday because you want to leave the light on for him.

Well my "strong options" are Doubs, Watson, Gallup, Gabe, Thomas. I'll probably pick up Powell in waivers to have a replacement for Monday.

How about the Vikings playoff chances? If he isn't ready, fine, but there is plenty rationale to be wanting him back ASAP
Back healthy ASAP. You don't screw with a bad hammy.
No point coming back only to aggravate it and be out the rest of the year.
He has been out since week 5. He has been practicing a bit for the past 2 weeks, does it not make sense for him to be ready yet? I’m not a doctor but have to wonder why he could be out for 9 weeks when a lot of others are not nearly out this long

There's different severities of Hamstring injuries. I realize i'm no pro athlete, but about a decade ago I popped my hammy, grade 2 tear, and it was not fully healed for like 5 months. I could jog and kinda run, but as soon as I would go any faster I could still feel the injury.
Hamstrings are very easy to re-injure if not fully healed, especially for guys running world class speed over and over in a game.
It's a frustrating injury, but even more frustrating when you come back too early and then have to be out 2 months again

I absolutely agree he could be medically not ready, but to say that the season people want him back is fantasy football is intentionally dismissive.

You don't know what people have said to Jefferson in his DMs.

Not sure why he reads them.

He wants to play. He has said that. Everything else is noise.

Media stirring up fans with their speculation.

Isaac Bruce had hamstring issues earlier in his career.

Donte Stallworth had a career marred by hamstring issues.

Take it easy on the Jefferson taking too long to get back to play. You are not a doctor and the web doctors have not examined him for a accurate diagnosis. They preach malpractice every time they speak.

How about the Vikings playoff chances? If he isn't ready, fine, but there is plenty rationale to be wanting him back ASAP

yes and compensating for a not fully healed hammy can cause compensatory injuries to the knee, hip, etc. Plus it's basically a contract year for him, it would be foolish to do anything that could diminish his position for negotiations.

I am thinking about taking a shot and trade for him. For you guys following him: What are the odds of him returning? I am scratching my head. Why not activate him and leave him on the bench? The deadline is coming closer and it is radio silence out there.

They will activate Jefferson before the deadline.

They have 2 days after the Monday night game to do so.

They may not activate him before the Monday night game. I think we will see a full practice from Jefferson before he plays. So I believe practice today or tomorrow could be new information.

The Vikings have a bye week 13. So more time for Jefferson to recover and get a full practice in prior to week 14 game vs the Raiders. But he will be activated before the deadline.

This is all we know right now. We wait for a full practice before anticipating when he will play.
