WR Kadarius Toney (3 Viewers)

Toney...JuJu...MVS...Hardman...Moore...Kelce...CEL.

Good luck starting anyone other than Kelce.
I'm gonna be on the other side of this one. I think there is value to be mined here. JuJu feels like the clear #1 WR, he's also got a very different skill set than the other guys, so his role feels safe.

If Toney can get back to where he was for that 2.5 game stretch his rookie year, I could see him making quick work of Moore/Hardman, and being ahead of MVS, who is/has always been 1 dimensional. There is a certainly a possible scenario, where the passing game is Kelce, JuJu, Toney, as the clear top-3 guys, in few weeks once Toney is up to speed.

I don't think they traded a 3 for a depth piece. I also think they have been pretty disappointed by MVS/Hardman/Moore, and none of those guys demand targets. Not saying Toney suddenly becomes a WR2 for fantasy or anything, but he's certainly increased in value with this trade.
I agree. I happily dropped Elijah Moore for him.

a 3 and 6 seems like a lot for a depth piece. I agree with those posters.
It makes me wonder if the Chiefs know more about him medically than the public otherwise, why would they trade for someone that can't see the field.

Is seems very plausible that he wasn’t seeing the field because the Giants and Toney mutually agreed that they weren’t a fit. Guessing the Giants have been quietly shopping him, and told Toney to keep his mouth shut to not implode any remaining trade value he had. Giants salvage a 3rd, Toney gets a fresh start, and Toney’s hammy will be better after KC’s bye.

they are on a bye this week....so that gives him two more weeks....and KC has depth at WR to hold down the fort and wait....

That would be ideal for Toney owners. If it really is a hamstring that has kept him out this long I would be more concerned.

Countdown to the announcement that the trade has been voided because Toney failed his physical . . .
You've heard of the healing power of the TB12 method, but don't sleep on the ketchup steak method.

Seriously though, lots of Giants fans think he's been healthy for weeks, and Daboll just didn't want to use him, and the FO didn't want to risk his trade value.

Juju is on a 1-year deal and can go anywhere he wants after the season. Kelce just turned 33. Hardman is an unrestricted free agent after the season. The cap hit on MVS is only $4M after this season. So while the receiver room is crowded right now, it could be the opposite after the season.
Great post, and I would assume this is more for 2023/24.

Very interesting to see what happens with Juju and the Chiefs this offseason.

I don’t see it crowded at all, could be a lot worse…Juju is a solid player but had little interest the past two years in free agency, Hardman has his moments but has never really lived up to the potential, MVS is nothing too special and Moore hasn’t shown much yet…if Toney is legit he will more than get his share…I am actually more concerned with what KC might bring in in the future than what they have right now.

My concerns with Toney are 100% health related and nothing else. Obviously he'll need time to learn the system and I like this trade way more for Toney(and Mahomes) in dynasty then redraft but oncehe's healthy and knows what he's doing the rest will take care of itself. If he can stay on the field it's going to be really fun to watch.

I'm just mainly curious to know if he's really injured or this has all been a bit of ruse? I might be naive, and hope to be wrong, but I think he's legit got issues with his hamstring(s) right now. I heard him give an interview last week and it sort of got me down because he said something like "l'll be back this season" and I was thinking well that does not sound good, I was not even thinking out of for the season. Maybe he's lying but he sounded like a player weeks away. He's under contract fairly cheaply for 2 years after his and they can do a 5th year option so it's not like the Chiefs made this move on idea he needed to be an immediate contributor to justify the costs.

So I got some worry in redraft he'll pan out but the trade is extremely exciting to me for Dynasty purposes.

Regarding his injury/injuries: the one sticking point for me on this topic is that the Giants never put him on IR. I've never heard of a player too injured to practice for literally a month+ that isn't placed on IR, particularly with the shortened IR stints in the post-pandemic era.

Of course, this can only be conjecture, but it does make me wonder if there was a mutual agreement between the two sides to 1) seek a trade and 2) not risk injury or re-injury in that interim period.

Didn't Harman just score 3 TDs this past weekend? And MVS had 113 and a TD? I'm confused.

Totally agree. Daboll coming from the McDermott tree will be a big time "Process" guy - and Toney is never going to be a fit there. Reid OTOH likes to run a home for wayward boys, so Toney is a better fit there.
I had heard on a podcast early this year that GM's like to use "lingering hamstring injury" as a convenient way to keep a guy inactive on game day. Anyway, I assume Toney has to pass a physical before the trade is complete, so we should have an answer to that question very soon.

I do not believe he has had a hamstring injury all this time. More likely that he and DaBoll did not see eye to eye
When he was active he did not get many snaps due to his practice habits, I would assume.

Think this was a situation where they hoped by making him earn his snaps in practice he would come around, does not look that way
So Giants have probably been shopping him for a few weeks now.

Doubt KC would give up 3+6 round picks for a guy with a bad hamstring. He has been out pretty much all year, not practicing at all
with a bad hamstring. He was not put on IR, that is what makes me smell a rat there.

1 game out of 7.

Hardman's 3 TDs were all basically jet sweeps. MVS got deep against an injured CB, didn't have a TD, actually hasn't had 1 all season, and has 4 years of being a limited, unreliable player. Toney has a lot more upside/talent.

I don’t see them giving up a 3rd and a 6th if they didn’t plan to really use him, when healthy. The question is have he and the Giants been fibbing his injury this whole time.
agreed....you don't make a deadline deal generally for next year, you do it for now.

I thought the same thing about the Giants and Toney. I thought "how do you hurt the other hammy when you aren't even practicing?" then it doesn't heal....week after week....just didn't add up. but then again little does with Toney.

agree this doesnt likely have a big short term impact, but next year in particular this kid could be elite. or he's a bust for a 3rd round pick. lots of those around.

My concerns with Toney are 100% health related and nothing else.
Really?

I think it's fair to question his role in an NFL offense. He really hasn't proven much.

Although, if I was to ask any coach to find a role for him, it's Reid.
I've seen enough to say I have zero concerns on his ability and feel like he's multi-dimensional and can fit into any system.

I'll make no such proclamations he'll be available to play.

I'm almost certain you don't trade for a player at the deadline who is currently injured. This indicates to me that he was never really injured at all and they were protecting him as they sought trades.

Who wants to bet this guy is suddenly Cal Ripken Jr now that he's got Pat throwing to him?

I mean he had Kyle Trask throwing to him in College and I'd take Trask over Daniel Jones right now. Giants aren't world beaters on offense outside of Barkley right now. I also don't think Daboll is as smart or this amazing Offensive Mind people keep saying he is. Giants have some decent offensive talent Sheppard before he got hurt, Gollladay, Robinson and Toney. Didn't seem like the Giants offensively knew how to get any of these guys involved. That or they don't trust Daniel Jones that much

I heard from my Florida source guy he had heard Whispers the injury was more cover u and Toney was in the dog house with Daboll for whatever reason. He wasn't given any specifics but from what he heard, In his honest opinion Toney was a deadman walking in NYG once the Giants went on a coaching search and hired Daboll who never wanted him to begin with. Hopefully he's right because the kid is incredible talented. He's a human video game controlled player skill wise and could be their Tyreke Hill replacement. Plus Andy over the years now has gotten a lot out of talented receivers.

makes complete sense especially given there were trade rumors over the summer. When do you see a 1st rounder traded after a year especially when they looked as good as he did when he played?

I know the Eagles were interested in Juju as reports said he turned down the Eagles offer to go to KC.

Yeah the future is more concerning then what they have now. Toney having seen him at Florida has shown he's far more talented then any of the WR's outside of JUJU. Hardman is talented but has been incredible inconsistent since coming into the league

It happens but it's not as common in the NFL as it once was. GMs and coaches with Huge Egos who don't want to admit they were wrong. It more so happen in a situation like this when the Coach and GM who drafted said player are fired that year new guys take over and you aren't part of their plans.

Also the whole he hurt the other hamstring made zero sense to me. People need to remember Giants were shopping him during the summer like you said so the writing was on the wall.

I might be a little bias being a Florida fan and I've loved Toney since college but I'm way more thrilled with him on KC as an Eagles fan then on the Giants. I want to at least somewhat root for the guy but also I know how good he can be with the right personal and coachies around him. He'd have been a headache for us for yrs if he puts it all together and the Giants get their **** in order.

Also my source is a guy who went to Florida and lives in NYC plus a huge Giants fan so he has contacts in both. The blog he writes for was able to do a solid write up on Rob Sale the OL Coach as he was the Giants OL coach.

This is the same guy who gave me some info on Brian Johnson the QB coach now with the Eagles and said that the Hurts relationship with Johnson is completely overblown by the Media. Johnson and Mullen were doing Hurts dad a service being a friend inviting him to their campus when they recruited him for Miss St. Johnson and Hurts dad are friends and Hurts knows Johnson but he's not like a 2nd father to him like many are claiming and all that other stuff. I've gotten some pretty good info from this guy before as well so it's why I'm sharing the Toney thing. If I thought it was ******** I may have made a quick passing mention and said I'm not sure I believe it.

FWIW a couple years ago Mixon had a "small" foot injury that left him questionable (but ultimately out) every week for like half the season before they finally put him on IR.

I was listening to Seattle sports radio where the guy insinuated that Carroll wanted the league to look into artificial turf and potentially move to all grass in the future due to the amount of injuries (I'm sure this was on DK Metcalf's injury last weekend). I don't know or have the statistics handy, but are there significantly more injuries on artificial turf? And to add to this, I'm fairly certain that Florida is natural grass while MetLife is artificial; now he'll move to Arrowhead which I know is natural grass.

Perhaps there's a correlation on field turf and Toney's health? I don't know--just hoping as an owner I suppose.

if/when he is ready....having three guys that can kinda take the top off (Toney/MVS/Hardman) is a pretty nice situation....often you see WR's that run go routes/double moves/deep passes have to come out and sit the next play.....not sure how KC will deploy these guys when healthy....assuming it will be Juju/MVS on the outside and Toney in the slot....but it feels like KC will have at least one guy on the field at all times that the defense will have to worry about coverage over the top.....and they will be able to sub in another speed guy if one guy runs a deep pattern....which in turn should allow Kelce to continue to eat underneath on almost every pass play...

KC could still use some help on D....for sure....but I like what Veech is doing by continuing to give his stud QB weapons....making that part of the team even stronger....building on the strength of this team which is Mahomes/Kelce....probably makes Aaron Rodgers throw up in his mouth a little...
