WR Kendrick Bourne, NE (1 Viewer)

Just to give some value proposition, I’m starting Bourne today over Cooper (hurt), Dotson (unclear target allocation) and London (will ATL ever throw enough?).

It’s more of an indictment against the other guys than faith in Bourne, but have a feeling Mac will have to throw a lot again against Miami.

Solid thinking...he is far from a definite but right now he appears to be their #1 option at WR and with how things are unfolding with the rest of the unit he could be by a decent margin...as a sidenote today will be a very good indicator of just how good the Pats D is...they have been a bit of a paper tiger the past few years as their performance was often tied into who the opposing QB was...a good performance today after looking good against Hurts and Philly would be very encouraging.

The defense has mostly played well against Tua. It’s the offense that has been the issue. They pretty much have done a good job keeping the MIA offense in check. If NE can score 24-27 points, they should be in position to win. I think we will see a lot of games like last week this year, with games in doubt until the end.

Tua has played well vs NE. If that continues today, the game script will favor Bourne getting some targets as they will be losing.

Not onboard with that...if they have two consecutive weeks against two very good offenses I will feel a lot better about their D...also Tua was inactive for one game last year and the other game was week 1 with a new Coach and it appears the addition of the HC and Hill have been game-changers for him so I don't think past history matters...this game will be very telling as to just how good this D is compared to the past few years.

If “well” = winning, Tua has gone 4-0 against NE. If “well” = big numbers, that hasn’t really been the case. He’s put up 726-3-2 in those 4 games.

Well not to turn this into “who to start” but I have Cooper and I‘M Subbing him out for Pittman and moving Pittman from flex. I’m putting Pacheco in flex. I did grab Bourne but I’m not sure one week is enough to trust him yet.

But BB’s defenses haven’t confused him like most young qbs. It’s a intriguing game, looking forward to it.

The winner of this game will feel very good about themselves...for the Pats the first 4 games of the season looked very daunting...going 1-3 was being realistic and 0-4 was not out-of-the-question even if they played well...win this after a solid showing against Philly and they would be 1-1 going into NYJ with Wilson and having a lot of confidence...any realistic Patriot fan would be very happy with that...for Miami opening up with wins on the road against the Chargers and the Pats with 3/4 of their next games at home against teams they should be favored against (and Rodgers sidelined meaning the two against the Jets look a little less daunting) and that is an excellent start to the season...as you said, this game is very intriguing and could go in a bunch of different directions.

Trying to decide the same with London and Bourne. One would think ATL would need to throw with a team like GB expecting the run. Bad news is Alexander Will probably be matched up on him. Bourne should get the volume. Always tough to bench a guy you wasted draft capital on this early in the season.

I don’t think the discussion on Bourne should really be about “breaking out at 28”. This is more about opportunity. Not too concerned about Parker. Bourne should be the #1 this year and the Pats will throw more. Look at Meyer’s last year and the low volume passing. Not to far fetched to expect Bourne to finish top 30.

Agreed...for whatever reason Bourne has been in and out of the doghouse in New England...right now all appears good with him and there is nothing but questions with the rest of the unit...the opportunity is 100% there.

Against "good QBs" last year, the only time the defensive unit allowed more than 28 points was against BAL (when Jones had a meltdown and NE turned the ball over 4 times late in the game). The offense and special teams allowed plenty of points last year . . . not sure that the starting defense should get demerits for that. The defense allowed 21 and 24 points to Josh Allen and the Bills offense. Cousins scored 26 points and Burrow scored 22. In the one game they played against Tua-Tyreek-Waddle, the MIA offense scored 17 points. The following week, Tua had 469/6 against the Ravens. With the NE offense not really able to score 20 points, that's the main reason they lost those games. None of that really matters at this point, and we will see how they do moving forward.

One week it’ll be him, another week it’ll be Henry, another week it’ll be Parker, another week it’ll be Douglas, another week it’ll be Gesicki, we may even see Smith-Schuster earn his paycheck one of those weeks.

As I said earlier, it’s hard to trust Bourne to provide any consistency (or any Pats pass catcher for that matter). This offense stinks out loud.

He's faced 3 tough defenses, DAL, NYJ, NO. Did well vs PHI and LV. Are we underestimating him, especially with a declining NE defense?

He's demonstrably the best wide receiver on this team; second best receiving target after Hunter Henry.
He looks like a good WR on the field but he is hard to trust with how NE seemed to want to use a variety of WRs. The offense looked good last week but one one is not a trend either. Not a bad player to have on your roster and hold for a couple of weeks at a minimum.

I want to like this matchup and start him but I just can't. Juju is coming back to make things muddier, Demario Douglas is possibly also emerging. Ramsey is back and the Patriots suck. Benching.

Agreed. I liked him as a flex play until JJ and Ramsey returned. Could still do well but it pushed me over edge to bench.

Tough break for him...also coming during a contract year which makes it even worse for him...he is a solid WR who would be a great fit as a #3 on a good team.

I said before the season started that Bourne would be a Top 25 WR. Even with the dumpster fire of an offense in NE, he ranks as WR26. But now his season is over. I think he liked getting more targets in NE, and I don’t think there will be a lot of interest in a 29 year old coming off an ACL injury. I can see him staying in NE. But things could be entirely different for the Pats next year, so who knows what the plan will be.

Activated.
Is he worth starting this week over Josh Reynolds or DeMarcus Robinson ?
Or should I just flip a coin ?

I stared at him on the wire for a bit today. Decided to pass. He doesn't have a history of success and decided it isn't gonna start this year.
