WR Malik Washington, MIA (1 Viewer)

Dolphin fan (sigh) here. Anyhow, the basic premise of this conversation is will anyone be tyreek? The answer is no, but this offense may take a slight step forward with Hill being out (sad to say, but his routes were a little off this year)

So, that leaves Waddle, Waller, Westbrook Ikene, and finally Washington

Westbrook Ikene will see the biggest bump in snap share in my opinion bc he is a "boundry X" kind of guy (Harmon calls them Sacrificial X's).
Waller and Julian Hill will see a bump in terms of 12 personell usage
Waddle "may" take some of the Tyreek target share

BUT: Washington may be the biggest beneficiary.

McDaniel is a poor mans Shanahan, so lets look at this offense as it is constructed now in shanny terms:

Waddle becomes Pearsall / Aiyuk
Westbrook becomes Jennings
Waller and hill/Ingold become Kittle/Kuzcheck lite
and, to me, Washington becomes Deebo lite

Lots of schemed targets similar to what they run with Achane, but out of the WR position. I expect his ADOT to be around 3 while Waddle/Westbrook/Waller's adots will be 7+

If deebo/CMAC were interchangeable parts in SF, then I expect that Achane/Washington will be a dime store version of that.
Good to see you, hope we get to hear your POV on the Phins if you have time in the team thread

What I like about this guy is that McDaniel has been scheming him some touches both in the run game and passing game. And this was even before Tyreek went down. While it's hard to bank on that translating into much heavier involvement going forward, all you can hope for in fantasy is more touches and easy ones are obviously great to see.

ETA: not that it matters much any more at this level, but he was a baller at UVA (110-1426-9 in his senior year).

IMO he’ll get the Hill touches around the LOS (which in the McDaniel/Tua offense are plentiful). He doesn’t have the speed to be a true downfield threat. And his size works against him in the red zone. So Malik should have a decent floor in ppr, but expectations should be tempered re: yardage and touchdowns

At 5-8, ya gotta wonder if that's him fulfilling his plan or if (much) more is coming.

NWI was quiet then flashed in camp and then had been quiet. They gave him good $ probably for this situation.

Now I get to bad team logic-
Doesn't the GM say "ya gotta get NWI in so I don't lose my job?"
Obviously I don't mean as if one player would have that effect, but it's a bad mark if NWI sits too much.
He hustles like few others and he blocks well.

If there is some prob idk about, those are still two qualities a lot of coaches can make something useful out of

I don't believe Washington is going to be a big factor. I expect him to remain a gadget guy for the most part, but I do expect his production to go up. Waller is likely to be the biggest benefactor of Tyreek being out.

I believe Miami needs to run more Pony packages with Ollie and Achane. McDaniel could move Achane around and make it tough on Ds. Use the Thunder/Lightning approach, but with both on the field. Take advantage of Ollie's talent. They don't have a good OL so get creative.

I grabbed Washington in my 10 team league this week thinking he might take a lot of the Hill targets and that could be huge but after looking again not so sure. The Dolphins have only thrown for more than 180 yards once in four games and that was with Hill for 3.5 games. Washington has averaged two catches so far for about 15 yards a game. Wondering whether anyone outside of Achane, Waddle, and now Waller are worth holding onto (for a league my size) from the Dolphins. May pivot to Waller (although don't need a TE but if he becomes Jonnu 2.0 well worth it), Jaydon Blue in case he gets a chance and can show something, or Isiah Bond if he might make a good combo with Dillon. Anyway, not sure what I am going to do but after originally thinking I might have a steal seriously wondering if he is just taking a spot better spent elsewhere.

Waivers run this afternoon and I’m also starting to think this guy is fool’s gold. May have a few more designed touches, but guessing the offense will run through Achane, Waddle and perhaps Waller. Can’t just assume Washington will fill even most of the Tyreek role.

Malik is more than a gadget guy. He has good receiving skills, enough speed to separate on the short and intermediate routes, and RB build to break tackles. Only 5'8", but elite vertical, 42.5, 4.47 forty. Wes Welker lite, without Brady and Manning at QB and a bad oline - that's why I'm hesitant to pick him up. But I think we'll know in the next game how Miami plans to use Malik. BTW, after Waddle, Miami's best separator in preseason was Taj Washington.

I kinda like Washington. 'Gadget guy' is just a loose description. Me saying he's going to stay a gadget guy doesn't have a ton to do with his ability. I simply don't think he's going to be a big factor.

Basically, his talent isn't enough to overcome situation. Given Tua's limitations, the OL troubles, and the talents of the other skill players, I don't believe Washington is going to be a hot FF commodity.
