Or because Egbuka is the all-time receiving leader for the most storied college football program for wide receivers of late, was widely regarded as a better prospect than Golden pre-draft, and was actually drafted before Golden.
But Golden is faster! Nobody cares about Egbuka’s, route running, toughness and body control. He’s slow!
In all seriousness though I drafted Golden and missed out on Egbuka
It has little to do with his speed. And I'm not saying Egbuka isn't talented. It's just that Golden has the it factor. You'll see.
What do you see? Very vague. What does he do better than Egbuka?
Golden's overall athleticism, body control on contested and sideline catches, short area quickness, and ability to get in and out of breaks is unmatched in this draft case IMHO. Both guys have catchers mitts for hands. Egbuka may be a more savvy route runner (although Golden is no slouch) but I believe he will function much better as the slot and maybe the Z whereas Golden's gifts should allow him to play everywhere including the X. Both guys have very good hands but the way Golden snatches it out of the sky is a thing of beauty. I know that is subjective, while tangible qualities such as quickness are not. And while I said speed wasn't the deciding factor in my thoughts, I do believe Golden's ability to get up to top speed in the blink of an eye will help him get significantly more YAC than Egbuka in the NFL. At this point, there is no way I'm convincing you Egbuka is inferior to Golden, and visa versa, so now all we can do is wait and see how it all plays out.
One last thing, I believe Golden's skillset and mindset put him much more in the Odell Beckham Jr/Antonio Brown range of player while Egbuka looks more like a Godwin/Thielen/Kupp type. These are certainly lofty comps for either player, but one I see as a WR1 superstar in the making while the other I see having a very productive NFL career.
From the small sample size I’ve seen from preseason and training camp highlights, I feel like Egbuka is gonna have the better year. He has amazing body control and can adjust to make difficult catches look easy. His hands look to be on another level as well.
I didn’t see Golden flash as much but it is a small sample size as I said just scrubbing the internet for anything I could find. He wasn’t gaining too much separation in the preseason game I saw. He did however make a nice adjustment on a long throw that I remember in that game.
I’d love to be wrong since I have Golden and missed out on Egbuka though lol.
There has been way more pub on Egbuka. That’s why you can get Golden for half the price. I’m not basing my judgements on preseason or camp highlights which are mostly fluff. I want to reiterate, I like Egbuka. I think he will be a pro’s pro. Golden just wows me and he’s just scratching the surface.
They both have glowing reviews from the team and coaching staff. Hearing the players talk about Egbuka since day one helped that pub and his draft stock. It seemed like the players in Tampa were blown away and more certain of his prospects THIS year.
FWIW, Goldwin and McMillan’s injury statuses played a huge role in Egbuka’s fantasy ascension.
Again FWIW, People were talking about Golden’s potential as a true #1 in GB going back to the draft and minicamps. Recency bias and hype are a fantasy football nightmare though.
If you have any original thoughts on what makes him special and better than Golden, or just relying on preseason fluff? If you do share with the group, but like I said, you’re not convincing me and I’m not convincing you, so let’s just let the season play out and see.
This is the Golden thread btw, Egbuka has one of his own.
