WR Mike Williams of Seattle (1 Viewer)

Mohawk

Footballguy
I have heard on some talk shows that Mike Williams looks like he finally gets it and that he has had an outstanding camp.

Any news from the Seattle football guys? What do you think his chances are of contributing and being a fantasy WR?

He's currently listed as the #3 WR. Not 3rd string, but on the field in 3-wide sets witht he starters.

Still its the Seahawks, so unless he earns one of the starting X or Z spots, he won't be worth a ton.....but his natural talent is above anyone else on that roster.

I'm not from Seattle either but I can tell you the Packers had a heck of a time covering him. I scooped him in a dynasty league just to be the 22nd guy on the roster until I know more. If Hass is healthy, he could have some real value although it is tough to say what that is with Housh being a good redzone player.

I love him as a late round flyer in a keeper league. It's just like David Boston a few years ago. Could be a mirage, but if so you dump him week 2-3 for the hot FA's?

BUt if he hits, the upside is off the charts.

When I heard that BMW was coming to Seattle, I made a friendly bet with a friend of mine after my friend confidently stating that the guy was going to catch more than 50 balls. I'm starting to think that I might lose that bet. He's looked good all pre-season, looks driven, and has a build that Hasselbeck has never had with a WR. I'm still thinking that he's only a mediocre fantasy option, but he could be a decent red zone target, and you could certainly do worse with your last round pick.

I keep reading hes impressing everyone. Hes the #3 WR ow but they say hes in shape and his game and speed is back. Just a few blerbs from the media . he can be a steal as a bench WR ( #4 or #5) getting him in the last round OR even after the season starts. I mean hes probally the best WR on that team (If he truley is committed). Hes basically the same type of WR that Calvin Johnson is. 6-5 220 and fast when in shape. His hands were never a issue , it was his lack of commiment and being out of shape. If hes truley committed he can be a red zone precense at the least at 6-5. Joe Jerovicious type.

Mike Williams’ role in the offense continues to increase. He saw time with the reserve offense against Tennessee in Seattle’s first preseason game, taking a short button-hook route near the right sideline 51-yards for a touchdown. Against Green Bay last week, Williams played with the first team. The first-year Seahawk recorded the team’s first reception of the game and had two catches of 17 yards.

Williams has done well enough in his two appearances to turn some heads. His first reception for the Seahawks was as good as he could have hoped for — a 51-yard touchdown from Seattle quarterback Charlie Whitehurst. In the preseason so far, Williams has had five receptions for 95 yards and one touchdown. Williams has played well on the field, and he’s working hard off the field as well. He was reported to be around 270 pounds during his days with the Lions, much too high for any wide receiver to be successful in the NFL. But he reported to training camp at a trim 230 pounds and has Pete Carroll reminiscing over the glory days.

“He looks great,” Carroll said. “He’s not looked like this since maybe his sophomore year of college.”

Matt Hasselbeck talks up "very hungry" Mike Williams

"He's very hungry," Hasselbeck said of Williams, per Clark Judge of CBSSports.com, "and he's been awesome."

Williams showed off his improved conditioning in the preseason opener, taking a short pass and racing 51 yards for a touchdown. Seahawks coach Pete Carroll says Williams looks much like he did in 2003, when Carroll was USC's coach and Williams was an All-American for the Trojans.

I'm not seeing the quickness necessary for him to get open during the regular season. Good luck to anyone that rolls with him.

Most certainly worth a late flier.. could be this year's version of Antonio Bryant, left for dead only to resurrect his career. could be another Dave Boston hype machine building only to implode. Guy is in a great situation with a below average rushing unit, likely to be playing from behind. I'll take that gamble late in the draft any day.

I watched a terrible Mike Williams a few years ago trying to come back and play with the Titans who DESPERATELY needed any WR. He was the definition of washed up. He did catch some stuff in preseason, but man he was fat and slow and just didn't have it.

I watched that last Seattle game, and he is a different player now. I don't know what he did with that guy, because he is dead and gone. I feel jilted as a Titans fan, but he sure did look like he did back in college. I am targeting the other Mike Williams at TB with my last pick in each draft so I like him a little better, but I think the guy in Seattle is going to be good, and if he were to get the nod opposite TJ, I would jump to grab him.

He's not quick, but the routes he ran last week created enough separation. He actually looked good last week. We'll see if he can consistently run solid routes and continue to create separation. Route running has been the knock on him lately -- he takes forever coming in and out of his breaks -- but I thought he looked damn good last Saturday against the Pack. He should also be a nice red zone target for Hasselback being the largest WR for Seattle. Fantastic sleeper.

Hes starting to get some hype and play in the media. hes still probally not going to be drafted in most drafts but you could do worse in the last round as a bench guy. have a guy with not reached "potential" .

Is Seattle’s Mike Williams a viable fantasy option now that he’s no longer orca fat?

After ballooning to 270 pounds, Williams found himself out of the league a scant three years after being drafted as the 10th overall selection. He resurfaced in Seattle during the offseason, but most figured his presence was simply a case of Pete Carroll doing a solid for one of his former players.

Then the whispers started.

Good whispers. The kind that tickles your ear and sends shivers up your spine. Was he really down to 230 pounds, the weight at which he competed in college? Were the “blue collar work ethic” stories true? Did Matt Hasselbeck(notes) really say, “He can be our Brandon Marshall(notes)?” Well, after some extensive searching and watching him in the first two weeks, I can confidently answer, “yes, yes, and … yes.” After taking a short pass and turning it into a 51-yard TD in Week 1, Williams hauled in all four passes thrown his way against Green Bay. I know this sounds like your typical preseason hyperbole, but this is a guy with an elite combination of size and skill, who’s already moved into the starting lineup opposite T.J. Houshmandzadeh(notes). But don’t take my word for it, tune into the Seattle/Minnesota matchup this weekend and see for yourself. You will be impressed, no doubt.

lol...they said this about jerry rice also..not comparing of course..but i think hell be 2nd most targeted player in Seat this year and looks to be in great shape what he may lack in speed he more than makes up in size and hes looked quite fast to me on the short pass he turned into a 51 yard TD on his first catch in pre season....id say he is one of the best late round fliers ive seen in many a year.
