WR Mike Williams, Retired (1 Viewer)

PIckens may miss more than this week. Can BMW ride us to the championship?

4 targets last week w/o Pickens. Is that enough to get you excited?
He also played a limited amount of snaps which could be a product of being newer to the team. Tomlin said to expect his participation to increase. Whatever his target to routes run percentage was solid last game.

I hope /\this/\ isn't the reason. He's been there over a month.

At this rate he won't be fully up to speed until... August???

BREAKING: The #Chargers are signing WR Mike Williams to a 1-year deal worth up to $6M as he returns to Los Angeles — where he spent the first seven years of his career, sources tell @NFLonFOX.

Williams is back catching passes from Justin Herbert.

In seven years with the #Chargers, Mike Williams had 330 catches, 5,104 yards and 31 TDs — and now he is back.

I don't think bringing Williams back stops them from taking a WR highly in the draft. I think he's probably slotting in behind Johnston.

What a rapid dropoff for Williams. in 2018-2023, he averaged 60.4 receiving yards and 0.4 TDs per game, which scales to 1027/7 over 17 games. He did that while averaging 15.8 ypr. Those aren't world beating numbers, but those are solid WR2 numbers (in real NFL life, not talking fantasy).

The problem was staying on the field. Is there any reason to believe he can stay healthy and available in 2025? If so, he certainly has chemistry with Herbert, and, as of right now, he is the best X WR on the roster, which could mean he could be the Chargers WR2, with McConkey as WR1 and Johnston as WR3 and playing a lot more Z than X, which better suits his game.

The Chargers have a lot of needs that I expect will take priority over WR in the draft (Edge, IDL, G, C, TE, RB). As a Chargers fan, I'm not super comfortable counting on Mike to be a top 2 WR this year, but that is the current situation, so it is possible.

I agree, having Williams doesn't stop them from doing that. But I think the huge needs they have will prioritize all of Edge, IDL, C, G higher, and to a lesser degree TE and RB as well.

For whatever reason, they have chosen so far not to address these needs in free agency other than to sign RB Harris. As things stand, it would surprise me if they draft a WR earlier than the 3rd, and in this draft, I think they would have to get lucky to draft a starting top 2 WR in the 3rd or later.

How does this dude suit up for 18 regular season games last year (yes, that's 18, not 17), and still manage to find his way to the PUP list?

DND at any price for me. Heck, he lasted til round TWENTY of our $5 SF BB FFPC draft a dozen of us just did, so I don’t think I’m alone in this opinion

My take was spot on.,.

Mike Williams retiring. 🤣
I didn’t read that you said he was retiring. Did I miss it?

my local (Denver) radio just said he was, so...
Oh I know that. I was referring to his own post that he quoted.

Playing an extra game and failing to break 300 yards total is a pretty wild stat.

Jets had 5 guys break 300 yards.
Steelers had 4 guys break 300 yards.

4th - Herbert
14th - Tre Harris - ok another mini shocker in not taking Luther Burden to add onto my Bears stack. But I also have Herbert and have zero faith Mike Williams even plays or if he makes it more than a few weeks. McConkey is about to win leagues and Harris was quoted as saying he likes to eat cornerbacks souls. I'm leaning into WR here but to be honest I think there is a path for Burden to totally take over in Chicago while I see Harris as very very solid #2 option that can catch TD jump balls in a way McConkey can't. TD upside is good in BB. In the 14th round. But I will admit this is probably a similar reach to when I took Harrison over JSN who I ranked one notch higher, however in this case a stack is being worked either way. So IDK kind of a coin flip and decided max fun for me was to pair with Herbert.
Eerie sometimes. I wrote this just a few days ago and no I didn't have any news of this or anything I just felt strong that he was broken and not going to really do anything. I don't know how much the assumption that he would be involved has played into Harris ADP or if he will start climbing, but I do enjoy having drafted a lot of him so far this offseason. Mike Williams was one of my favorite players to watch though and so I wish him the best. I've been wanting to grab more McConkey as well but have had a hard time getting him onto rosters.
