WR Odell Beckham, Jr., BAL (3 Viewers)

I don't understand the big deal with the watch?  If it doesn't break the rules, who cares.  The kid has some disposable income.  If he wants to blow it on a watch or car or prostitute it doesn't matter to me.
Agreed, He looked fantastic during the game.  Fast and shifty...I see no issue with the hip.  I think what we saw week 1 is his floor, very happy about that,.

IMO it is just another “look at me” distraction. Instead of the focus being how can we get better and not be embarrassed as a team next week”.....it is “yeah, I am going to keep wearing my 350k watch.” I have no problem on what he spends his money on, just not sure why he needs to flaunt it during a game. Maybe I just getting too old....

What would you sell him for?  I'm curious what Beckham owners realistically want for him, in general.

because it does break the rules if its not plastic like he says

Titans smothered him with Butler, Byard and a LB closing in. He had a great game against those athletes.

The Browns need to let him attract attention and go elsewhere more. First game tho....

Poor OBJ.  So wanting attention, so wanting to monetize himself as a billboard on the field and his thunder is stolen by Antonio Brown.

If its metal its a hazards.  If it is plastic and capable of being shattered into shards, its a hazards. If neither, it is precedent so that other guys can seek to violate the uniform policy wearing things maybe for which they can get paid, causing a distraction.  Reminds me of Jim McMahon and his headband 35 years ago.  the league has licensing deals with shoe companies and athletic apparel makers.  Those deals are based upon a clean, undistracted look, a look not competing with other products on the player's bodies during games.  He should no more be able to do this than a ref should be able to review a play on a Mac book instead of the surface tablet they are authorized to use.  The stage belongs to the league, not the players.  The players get to share in that revenue, but they do not get to set the rules.  they don't get to carry phones, sharpies, or wear designer watches.  Some wear ear rings or neck chains, there is precedent for that but even that would be curtailed if it became distracting.

If he tries to take the field in out of uniform he should be prevented form doing so and should get a uniform fine, just like his jersey was untucked or his socks too low.  Remove the watch and then he can be allowed to enter the game.  Is this the man coming down on him personally, nope, the policy goes to everyone and benefits everyone both as a safety issue and by creating large endorsement dollars from the approved licensees, endorsement dollars that go into the cap pool which benefits everybody, even self important jerks, like OBJ.

Easiest thing to do is ring him up with an unsportsmanlike flag if he walks on the field with the watch and warn him he'll get another and be ejected if he doesn't take it off.

It's a refs judgement call, there isn't anything in the rules says they can't do it

I don't know about you guys, but I want to wear the quarter-million dollar watch that Odell wears during games and his sponsorship and endorsement of said watch has put me over the top regarding my purchasing decision.

Wait...

Wait for it...

:lmao:

How is it different than the gaudy huge gold chains and diamond ear rings players wear.  Its a plastic watch, its even Browns colors.

I agree that if the NFL doesn't think it conforms and he wears it any way a fine seams appropriate.  If it is unsafe the ref should not let him play with it and penalize the team if he does.  Seems easy enough.

I don't get the hate though.

The hate is because it's always about this clown, it's always off the field, and he's never won a darn thing. He made a really, really good catch with sticky gloves once, otherwise teams wouldn't put up with him.

His numbers are amazing.  Yes hes a giant pain in the ### but don't forget how good he is

He's averaged 92.45 receiving yards/.73 TD's per game over his 60 games played in his career.

1,479 yards/11.68 TD's per 16 games average.

A lot of teams would put up with a WR who puts up those numbers.

The first thing that jumps out at me is GP. He's played in less than a quarter of his team's total games in his short career. Yes, he's phenomenal when he plays and there's not a Pig Pen dust of trailing issues around him, but that seems infrequent.

He really is awesome when he shuts up and dedicates himself. Nobody can deny that. But nobody can deny he's had soft tissue issues and other problems in his short career.

You can't possibly extrapolate out his averages with a straight face. That's painting the biggest dook.

huh.  when he plays he's awesome.  He has missed games but has played in 59/80 over his first 5 seasons.

Call him injury prone if you want, but when he's on the field he's one of the best in the NFL.

He called out what a piece of scum human being Gregg Williams is today, so I can appreciate that about him at least.
He insinuated the guy coached people to hurt him. Wait, he didn't insinuate. Sounds like he flat out said. There's something very wrong with what Gregg Williams did back in NO; there's also something unseemly about accusing him of doing it again.

/Jets homer

Like I said, when he's playing and not playing diva, he's awesome. But don't sign me up for a player out on the edges of the field that only averages 3/4 GP per year. That's weak sauce.

To be fair he was saying that the Browns players who played for Gregg last year, told him that. Those are primary sources!

And he didn't accuse him of paying incentives to hurt opposes players, at least, which is what really got him in NO. Just encouraging them to do it for the money they're already making lol.

If Williams is still coaching that way and Odell has primary sources that aren't lying, then by all means talk about it. I don't want my Jets homerism to get in the way of odious stuff like that.

I think there's a thin line with stuff like this. We all as football fans recognize sayings like "you have to hit the QB, get him on the ground" and while we all acknowledge that the point of that isn't to purposely injure the guy (even though if you did your odds of winning go way up), but to shake him up and give him happy feet in the pocket...it's not a super far cry from saying "hit him so hard he needs to head to the sideline". So it is the type of thing that would probably not hold up under close inspection as being technically dirty. I'm sure it was more about hitting OBJ hard because it's easy to get into his head and throw him off his game, etc. But coming from a guy like Gregg, you can never be sure. The guy sucks when it comes to stuff like this, and the Browns players and OBJ obviously interpreted it in the worst possible way--which is what happens when you lose the benefit of the doubt in a league where everyone knows everyone and are mostly buddy buddy off the field.

#Jets expect Odell Beckham to bring his A game in return to MetLife Stadium.

In his 30 games there, he scored 23 Rec TD and averaged 96.7 yards per game.

That’s the most Rec YPG at a single stadium by any player in NFL history (min. 30 games), per Elias. #Browns

Odell Beckham caught 6-of-10 targets for 161 yards and one touchdown in the Browns' 23-3, Week 2 win over the Jets Monday night.

In his mid-week presser, former Browns interim coach-turned Jets DC Gregg Williams refused to admit OBJ is a dynamic playmaker in this league after responding "Odell who?" when asked about Beckham. OBJ went on to make a spectacular one-handed, 33-yard grab down the right sideline for his first catch of the game, nearly recreating "The Catch," before later ripping off an 89-yard touchdown where he ran untouched through the middle of Williams' defense. It was the longest touchdown of Beckham's career. OBJ's return to MetLife Stadium couldn't have gone any better. He'll do battle with Marcus Peters and Aqib Talib next Sunday night against the Rams.

Odell Beckham caught 6-of-9 targets for 56 yards in Week 3 against the Rams.

Beckham and Jarvis Landry both had a team-high nine targets. This was an obvious step back after Beckham went off for 161 yards last week. Beckham couldn’t get anything going downfield, though it could have been a worse night for him in a game Baker Mayfield threw for just 195 yards. Even with the Browns offensive line struggling, Beckham will remain a WR1 for a matchup with the Ravens in Week 4.

Odell Beckham caught just 2-of-7 targets for 20 yards in the Browns' Week 4 win over the Ravens.

Beckham was draped in top CB Marlon Humphrey's coverage all afternoon, and Humphrey was winning that battle much of the time. OBJ has been held to 71 scoreless yards or fewer in three of the Browns' four games this season. It's been a bit of a sluggish start to the year. With 25% of the season in the books, OBJ is on pace to catch 84 balls for 1,232 yards and four scores. We'd obviously take the over on that touchdown number. OBJ gets the Niners in Week 5.

Grant Cohn @grantcohn

No one has shut down Odell Beckham Jr. this season better than his coach, Freddie Kitchens. He has turned Beckham Jr. from a home-run threat to a bunting specialist, if you'll allow the mixed sports metaphors.

Grant Cohn @grantcohn

Mayfield has completed just 5 of 14 pass attempts to Beckham when Beckham is more than 10 yards downfield. Ugh.

Odell Beckham caught just 2-of-6 targets for 27 yards in the Browns' Week 5 loss to the 49ers.

Yikes. OBJ had 2-20 last week on seven targets in the win over the Ravens, but since the Browns won that game, it was okay. The Browns put three points on the board in this one and got blown out of the building. Baker Mayfield has been atrocious behind one of the worst offensive lines in football. Coaches tried to get the ball in OBJ's hands, giving him a couple rushing attempts that totaled 15 yards while also letting him throw it once. That went for a 20-yard completion to Jarvis Landry. But OBJ also fumbled a punt return away. Outside of his Week 2 against the Jets that resulted in 6-161-1, it's been a bad five weeks to start OBJ's Browns career. He'll be a WR2 next week against the Seahawks.

Ugh. Wow. Brutal. Can’t bench him. Brutal schedule coming up too.

trying to trade him for Mack.

How low is his value in dynasty sinking? I have him in one league and was thinking of acquiring in another, but not sure I want to be doubling down on the Browns at this point.

Uh Houston, we have a problem.........

I couldnt have been more wrong about Odel and the year he is having.  Holy crap how did it get so bad?
