WR Odell Beckham, Jr., Free Agent (2 Viewers)

It’s bad form to overlook an opponent, but my hot take is that the Browns looked at their opponent and decided it was wiser to let OBJ heal rather than push him to play against Houston…
I was listening to a podcast with a medical professional and they said OBJ is not 100% and was mature in telling the team week 1.

I also got the impression this is longer than expected and may not return next week.

Anybody want to throw out projections here? Someone dumped Odell and he's on Waivers. Do I burn my #2 slot and try to snag him? I have NO IDEA what to think of him this year.

Boom or bust.....I've got him stashed in a distance TD bonus league.  He's worth a flier in this, or a best ball kind of deal........volume most certainly won't be there, as much as they run.....without Landry he's obviously more intriguing, although they operate in different space mostly......

Fwiw, some guys on the team, forget who, were saying he looks like the old OBJ the way he moves.......and that was leading into week one......so he's a weapon you'd think the browns would like to utilize

Well, the "Old OBJ" caught one handed highlight real TD's....so that is high praise. Just hard to trust given his injuries. But he'd basically be "free" if I can get him with the #2 waiver.

I guess it depends on who else is out there......if it's a barren wasteland why not take shot on him?

Browns' Odell Beckham: Drops hints about Week 3 return

(1 hr ago) Beckham (knee) hinted in a couple of social media posts that he will make his season debut Week 3 against the Bears, Nate Ulrich of the Akron Beacon Journal reports.

Beckham tweet-replied to teammate Jarvis Landry (sprained MCL), suggesting he would help the team hold down the fort while Landry is unavailable on injured reserve. Beckham also posted a video on his YouTube channel with an accompanying caption that reads, "Back like I never left." With Landry slated to miss at least three weeks, having Beckham back on board will help a wideout unit that had issues last week against the Texans

Browns coach Kevin Stefanski said Odell Beckham (knee) will be a "full go" in practice Wednesday.

Beckham was sidelined for the first two weeks of the year while receiving from the torn ACL he suffered last October. All signs point to him making his debut versus the Bears this week. The timing of his debut is crucial as the Browns will be without Jarvis Landry (knee) for a minimum of three weeks as the veteran receiver landed on injured reserve this week. The Browns could ease Beckham in but their lack of receiving talent behind him makes that unlikely. He projects for a monstrous share of the Cleveland passing game in his 2021 opener and can be bet on as a WR2/3 option.

#Browns Odell Beckham Jr. says 'we'll see' about facing the #Bears on Sunday but that when he returns, he'll be 'better than I've ever been.'

I don't know about your house, but in my house, "We'll see" is the parent answer for something that isn't likely to happen. Stay tuned. We all got excited about "full go" but this feels far from certain. HT: @amymac0215S

If you can't start Chark do you think you can start OBJ?
I have Higgins as my current #3 in Flex. But I will need more WR.

The difference I see with a healthy Chark is that he has rookie Lawrence floundering around and he isn't producing much now. Where Odell has yet to play but has Baker.

Speaking Thursday, Browns OC Alex Van Pelt said Odell Beckham (knee) will be a game-time decision for Sunday’s game against the Bears.

Words like "pitch count" and "game-time decision" and "we'll see" can't be comforting to fantasy players, though some of you will likely have no choice but to ride the roller coaster in deeper leagues. Managers should remain skeptical of Beckham's ability to blow up while dealing with the injury in a tough spot against a game Bears defense until he gives us a reason to believe in him again. If he is indeed on a pitch count, it will be difficult for him to get out of the WR4/deep league flex zone.

This was my response to you in the WW thread and I stand by it:

Chark got a bunch of targets in week one, not much in week two and his catch % is horrible (for whatever reason) and the Jags look like a bad team.

OBJ is intriguing, I have him in redraft and am holding for a very specific reason (below). But Chark is on our wire and I am considering him.

Cleveland's identity is run first, last and always. They are averaging just under 25 pass attempts/game. No player has more than eight targets (total) and Landry (and Schwartz) have the most at the WR position with six (6) total targets over two games.

Jacksonville looks very bad but bad teams throw the ball a lot by necessity (42 pass attempts/game). Their top three WRs have 20, 17 & 16 targets over two games and while the catch rate is poor they are getting looks that Cleveland WRs doubtfully will ever see.

Also Jacksonville is passing for their TDs 4:0 and Cleveland rushes for theirs 1:7

Bottom line is Chark is going to get more opportunities over the season and Lawrence should improve, even if only marginally. And it's still going to be a bad team that needs to throw. Chark is probably the better bet.

However, and this is why I am holding OBJ, IF he comes back and, by the Grace of God/Allah/Buddha/Sea Man/Joseph Smith/L Ron Hubbard & The Flying Spaghetti Monster, has a big TD I'm his first game or two he will have some trade value (there is always one guy who loves that name recognition). In that scenario I am going to trade him for whatever I can get.

"...and, by the Grace of God/Allah/Buddha/Sea Man/Joseph Smith/L Ron Hubbard & The Flying Spaghetti Monster"

You forgot the Power of Grayskull!

Thanks for the perspective. I agree that it will be rough to run either one of them out there. BUT as you said, OBJ does carry some more name recognition and I think that is what intrigues me about him. He moreso than Chark could net a decent trade.

🚨 Odell Beckham, Jr. will play Sunday vs the Bears, barring any final setbacks, per sources. Beckham, who hasn’t played since suffering a torn ACL on Oct. 25, has worked diligently to return and re-assert himself among the league’s top receivers. He’s a Comeback POY candidate.

ESPN's Dan Graziano reports Odell Beckham (knee) will play in Week 3 against the Bears "barring an unforeseen setback between now and game time."

Beckham appears on pace to make his 2021 debut after a good week of practice. OBJ was held out of the Browns' first two games as he completes his comeback from a 2020 ACL tear. While it's unlikely Beckham will see a full complement of snaps and routes upon his return, he could see a bundle of targets with Jarvis Landry (knee) on injured reserve. OBJ drafters should watch for Sunday morning reports about his availability and potential usage against Chicago. He'll be a shaky WR3 option.

Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski said Odell Beckham (knee) will play in Week 3 against the Bears.

Stefanski said Beckham took every practice rep this week with no limitations. That's good news, though a full complement of snaps and routes in OBJ's first game back from a devastating ACL injury doesn't seem likely. Jarvis Landry (knee) being on injured reserve will open up targets for Beckham and the rest of the Cleveland receivers.

he looked ok.

Mayfield and Beckham still seem to be just out of sync.

I’ll believe it when i finally see them gel.

hope it happens soon.

Whaa?

They looked in-sync.  Baker was under all-sorts of pressure.  The O-line got their butts collectively kicked in pass-pro today.  OBJ was the only consistent receiving threat on the field for either team today.  Baker was off on his accuracy.  Odell balled.

OK.

Baker was bad this game. Near the end they had a 3rd down and OBJ got behind his corner for a likely long TD and Baker flat out missed him. Not saying he's back to old OBJ, but no one ate today in the Browns passing game.

He must be hated by Baker and/or the team. I mean there is no logical explanation why he's not a part of the offense if he's healthy.
