WR Odell Beckham, Jr., Free Agent (2 Viewers)

No doubt, the rational choice would be to sign with the team with the best QB in the hunt, in need of a 1 or 2. GB definitely fits, but so would Buffalo, and dare I say the raiders? Although LV doesn’t need more drama this year.
Buffalo’s problem is they need to figure out how to beat a Cover-2. Their WRs haven’t been a problem. Sanders has played great for them and Knox and Beasley are decent options as well. GB has been a WR wasteland behind Adams for a while now, with so many wasted Rodgers targets going to a litany of JAGs. GB could use him more than any of these other “contenders”.

And given how comically bad Love looked, GB should be pushing all in this year as their “Last Dance” with Rodgers.

Problem is, if Beckham is looking for a multi-year deal, then the prospect of Rodgers leaving makes GB much less attractive.  Same thinking if Russell Wilson leaves Seattle.

The Athletic's Jeff Howe reports that the Patriots have been in touch with free agent WR Odell Beckham's camp.

Howe went on to say that the conversation was more "exploratory" than anything, so this doesn't mean Beckham is going to sign with New England. It does likely indicate the Pats are at least on the 29-year-old receiver's radar. Jakobi Meyers and Nelson Agholor have played admirably, but the Patriots could use some more help at wideout.

I think wherever he stops for the next 8 plus weeks, he is probably treating this like a contract year. But I don’t see him necessarily needing to sign long term with whoever he joins up with now. The main goal should be show he can still play at a high level, play nice with other teammates, then take his rehabbed image into free agency this summer and go to the highest bidder. Or at least, this is how is agent is probably thinking about OBJ’s options right now.

Jesus, if you're looking at twitter you realize OBJ's agent is just as diva-driven as OBJ is. These "leaks" are getting more and more desperate.

By Thursday OBJ's Agent will be outside Lambeau like this
31 teams passed on him when he was put on waivers...All 31 teams said no way.

Now OBJ wants to say he prefers a contender, Cleveland is a contender and in the thick of a Playoff spot in the AFC coming off a Playoff Year in 2020, in Cleveland I might add.

How many targets is he expecting in Green Bay? Adams is the primary guy and that isn't going to change.

No chance Green Bay / Rodgers approves this ####-show.  Do you blame them?

This isn't end-of-the road Randy Moss ready to get a ring.  It's Lady GaGa.  In Milwaukee.  On an 8 show Vegas residency.

Good luck with that.  Next year's showing, starring Jordan Love!  Get your tickets now.

I think most of the 31 teams passed on him because they would be on hook for his salary. Now that he cleared waivers teams can negotiate salary.

Green Bay would be foolish not to go after him hard. But this is sane team that passed on Stephon Gilmore. It’s like everyone knows this is Packers last hurrah except for the Packers.

The only team that needs to be bringing in OBJ is one with a veteran QB. The last thing a team with a young/rookie QB needs is him coming in and getting inside that QB's head about him needing x-number of targets and then turning the locker room against that QB when he gets upset about not producing.

He certainly wasn't worth $7.25 M or whatever it was if they picked him up. What's he worth in cash, show, production? Even in fantasy he's on everyone's bench, not mine lol. I don't want him and I wouldn't want him if I was a GM. He's worth something. DeSean Jackson signed for like $1 M for the rest of the year. Odell maybe $2 M, then he'd have to pass all the other rigamarole.

Not too mention the real deal - how good is he, MoP? Is he the kind of prima dona that only performs when he's on stage getting the looks and ball. Does he go all out on his routes? How about dropping passes? He really hasn't had any production for 1 1/2.

Edit: Add pouting and supportive teammate on and off the field and on the sidelines and inside the locker room. It's a culture and a family. Or is he ego too big to be able to handle it? He'd need a coach like Belicheck who won't tolerate nonsense and just cut him.

That too!

but he already does not like the offense or get along with the coaching in Cleveland.

All teams passed at that salary they would have had to eat by claiming him on waivers.  There will be teams interested now that they can sign him while he is already getting paid by Cleveland.

They passed on Gilmore for the same reason 31 teams passed on Beckham.  Eating salary for a trade.  Had he cleared waivers...I think they would have signed Gilmore.

Whether they are going after him...who knows.  Coaching and even Rodgers may not want it...though, maybe his circus quiets the Rodgers circus for a day or two.

Only about 12 teams in the league had the salary cap space to claim him in the first place so this doesn’t mean much. At least half of those remaining teams are either rebuilding or already set at WR. So of the few that could use him they would have had to decide if he was worth using the last of their cap space on him, or just wait until he cleared waivers and Cleveland was on the hook for his salary. Anything you pay him now just reduces the amt Cleveland has to pay him.

He was traded (although I know Carolina would still be on hook for part of contract)

packers could have made room by releasing/restructuring some deals. It’s crazy the deal the Panthers got him for and they will likely get a compensatory pick when he leaves as a free agent.

this is it for Packers - their window is closed after this year - need to go all in. Tampa Bay did when they signed Brady.

They need to sign Beckham.

Right...they would have had to make several moves to fit him in with a trade (because they would be taking on his contract).  Which would have led to not being able to sign other guys the rest of the year as well (in all liklihood).

I don't think they feel the window is closed after this year...but we will see.  The Covid thing throws a wrench in it...but IMO...things were trending to actually being able to work something out with Rodgers.  I don't think him being gone is set in stone just yet.  Still most likely he is gone though.

And I agree...they should sign him.  Its almost no risk at this point.  Its not a lot of money...if he trends towards hurting things...they can do as they did with Jaylon Smith and release him.

He won't go to the Chiefs. Tyrann Mathieu didn't get his contract extension with the Chiefs and he's acted butt-hurt all year. I can just hear the words he's telling Beckham right now about our front office.

all he wants is the ball so he can sign a new deal w someone in the summer.

Rumors of NE being interested. I get it from the vantage of a “contender” needing a WR, and they haven’t exactly shied away from controversial players in the past. But it seems like a mistake to me.

My money in on The Saints … they can spoon feed him the ball day with no competition… especially with Mike Thomas done for the season… N.O outside of an injured Kamara have no legit pass catchers

Not sure if he could get up to speed in time but they host CLE this week for extra juice.

The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel's Tom Silverstein reports the Packers are offering WR Odell Beckham the veteran minimum.

The Packers have not yet reached an agreement on an extension with Davante Adams, which limits their flexibility with Beckham. Although, presumably they can find a bit more than the veteran minimum for him. The Packers' reported offer is likely one reason that the Saints are on Beckham's reported short list. Beckham's decision will likely come down to weighing quarterback play and playoff success against a higher paycheck.

a lot of these articles/posts keep mentioning money.

i thought the Browns were on the hook for the balance of his pay the rest of the season up to the original contract amount.

why would anyone pay more than the vet minimum, and why would OBJ care?

maybe if they are offering a multi year contract?  i always assumed he would only sign through the end of the year and then try to get paid in the offseason?

I've seen that there are 12 teams in the mix for OBJ. The Patriots are said to be one of the more interested suitors.
Maybe it's my homerism showing but Pats seem like a good, and maybe best, fit. He'd be a clear starter on a developing team with a good QB. They are still very much in the hunt this year, but will ideally be better in the years to come. If OBJ can put his ego aside he can be the star of the offense that's in need of one.

Saints QB situation is a mess and what happens when Thomas comes back as the head dog? Doesn't makes sense for him to go there IMO.

Pack obviously have a great QB, but OBJ will be second fiddle to Adams and if he can't play by Rogers rules...

Chiefs have a good amount of weapons on offense already. Don't seem them giving him what he's looking for.

The Browns paid him $4 million. He gave up the other 3 million to be able to clear waivers. (they converted some salary to a bonus payable on Tuesday so if any team claimed him they would have to pay the full amount)

I can’t remember all the rules and permutations. Can a team sign him for league minimum and still get a compensatory pick for him? If so, that almost makes this a risk free investment.

I would think so, yes.  I believe it's based on the value of the new contract with the new team.

That is my understanding as well.  His goal should be, and probably is, to go to the best situation this season to set up for a long term contract as a FA this offseason.

Don't see why he would go to a worse situation for a couple extra million this season.

Going to NO would be suicide with their mess at QB.  SEA he'd be the #3 WR and they will struggle to make the playoffs.  KC would probably be solid for his stats but that team has been a mess.  GB seems like the best fit by far for chance at SB and target opportunity playing with a HOF QB.

Sign vet minimum with GB and give yourself the best chance at a nice contract somewhere this offseason.  Almost a no-brainer.

Was hopeful but not surprised at Green Bay’s non competitive offer.

Wouldn't a team have to offer him more than $7 million for him to get more money this year (I didn't read up on how his contract was restructured so I don't know the exact number)?

Anything offered is just deducted out of what Cleveland is on the hook for paying him, so I wouldn't expect him to get offered more than the league minimum from any team.
