WR Odell Beckham, Jr., Free Agent (2 Viewers)

I guess maybe I am missing something with OBJ. He's usually hurt, not nearly as effective, and sometimes pouts a lot. He hasn't been close to the fantasy star he was in his first three seasons. Based on total points scored in PPR leagues, he ranked 90th and 55th the past two seasons. He wasn't any better in PPG, ranking 90th and 58th. Last year, in the weeks he played, he ranked 30, 78, 87, 29, 62, 102, 72, 10, 33, 11, 101, 30, 21, and 83.

Not sure why people are eager to try to pick him up and stash him for a month, especially when he will have had no practice, no conditioning, is coming off a major injury, has no knowledge of a playbook (unless he goes back to the Rams), and will start out with no chemistry with a new QB / team / offensive coordinator. I guess for fantasy teams / leagues with big rosters he might be worth tucking away, but in leagues where there aren't many roster spots, I'd hate to drop someone of value or with upside. I doubt we see OBJ come in and light the world on fire. To me, he would be an injury or bye week fill in in a few weeks if I needed someone for a week or two and he was floating around on the wire. But I doubt I would want to roster him, and I really would hope I didn't have to actually play him. But maybe that's just me and my read on him is out of whack.
Speaking for myself, I was trying to stash him but I can't. My thinking is that MAYBE he gets signed by the scrams or in GB with Rodgers and he puts up something. Right now, YOU are the only guy on my FA list that is mildly intriguing me as a pickup.

Seeing lots of chatter about the Chiefs being a landing pad for OBJ
Besides Kelce, the chiefs need a playmaker. The other guys are blah, Hardman stretches the field and will get some, like when T Hill was the playmaker. OBJ not as shifty and speedy, but nevertheless, the chiefs need a playmaker. It ain't gonna be Sammy or M V-S and the rookie Moore is just learning the system.

ESPN's Dan Graziano reports WR Odell Beckham (knee surgery) is targeting a mid-December return.

This is a downgrade from the mid-November outlook Beckham was given earlier this month. The new timetable pushes Beckham's return into the final month of the season. Signing with a contender for the stretch run remains the likeliest outcome for Beckham coming off his Super Bowl torn ACL. The Rams have continued to keep tabs on Beckham with the "belief around the league" he'll end up back in L.A.

49ers GM John Lynch didn't rule out signing free agent WR Odell Beckham.

“We never say no,” Lynch told NBC Sports Bay Area. “We’re always looking to get better. And it’s a rarity you have a player of that ilk and some other names out there that still might be available.” The comments from Lynch come after coach Kyle Shanahan said he’s “always been a fan” of Beckham. Beckham, who also has interest from the Rams, is targeting a mid-December return.

If you were to make a move to acquire, since it looks like at best he'd be available during fantasy playoffs, Weeks 14-16, when would you do it?

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports Odell Beckham is "firmly on the Cowboys' radar."

As Rapoport noted, Dallas tried to acquire Brandin Cooks at the trade deadline but a deal never materialized. Still looking for a third receiver, Beckham could be in their future. In his first five games this year, Michael Gallup has yet to eclipse 50 yards. Sans Amari Cooper, the Cowboys haven't gotten much out of their pass-catcher not named CeeDee Lamb. Beckham would instantly make an impact as the team's second receiver. Beckham should have plenty of suitors as he nears a return from the torn ACL he suffered in the Super Bowl,

Guessing he signs in next week or two because Glazer just said his rehab has gone so well he was expected to get cleared next week.

Wow that's a big change from mid-December expectations. Good for him. Not sure who I'd like to see him sign with -- I guess Cowboys would give him biggest opp with Gallup underproducing so far? In Buff I feel he'd be a bit lost and we'd be hoping for that 1 big play every week. GB could certainly use him but would he even have any interest?

I just don't see Beckham being a reliable FF contributor. Coming off injury, hasn't practiced or played - not seeing it. He hasn't really produced the last few years when healthy. At this point it's a wild guess and we won't know more for at least several weeks if he'll be any good or not from a FF perspective. And like you said, he'd be more of a BOOM or BUST play every week.

I don't have anyone on my roster I'm willing to drop for him at this point.

I agree. He will be more of a real football asset than FF IMO.

I could see GB being aggressive after reports they offered a 2 for Claypool and a 1 for DJ Moore. They were also interested in Waller.

A lot of what you say here is true and how he'll come off this injury and acclimate to likely new offense are all things to have doubts or concerns.

As for the last years production I'd push back on that a little. He was really on a roll last year before he got hurt in the SB and seeing Baker kill off DJ Moore was just another reason to give Odell a pass on his lack of success with the Browns.

That would be his best bet for FF production IMO. I just do not see him choosing them as I think he will go to the team with the best chance to win it all. Bills the likely scenario if I had to guess as their #3 WR could use an upgrade.

I agree. After this weekend I don't think the Packers will be that aggressive anymore and there's no way OBJ chooses them anyway. I think the Bills No. 2 could use an upgrade. I think Dallas would be a good fit both fantasy and real life.

Speaking Monday, Cowboys HC Mike McCarthy told reports, “I’ve always been a huge fan of [Odell Beckham]... I’ve just heard so many excellent, excellent things about him."

Beckham is expected to be cleared by the end of the week, and interest in him has begun to heat up. NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports that Beckham could sign in early December and is drawing interest from the Cowboys, Bills, Giants, Rams, and perhaps others. McCarthy made sure to note that " we really love our receiver group" but they seem among the front runners to land Beckham for the stretch run.

I think The Rams are out at this point. He wants to go to a playoff team. Giants are building for 2 years from now, although he would improve the wr room a great deal,I'm not sure he fits in the rebuild plan. Bills and Boys make the most sense, they both want to win now and will pay the price and take the chance.

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said free agent Odell Beckham would look "pretty good" in a Dallas uniform.

Jerry and head coach Mike McCarthy are going full recruiter mode in their pursuit of Beckham, who tore his ACL in last February's Super Bowl. He's expected to be cleared for a return to the league in the coming week, but might not see the field for another few weeks. Fox Sports' Jay Glazer said on Sunday that the Bills, Rams, and Niners would be interested in signing Beckham once he's ready for a return. Buffalo would be the ideal landing spot for OBJ's fantasy prospects. In Dallas, he would likely function as the WR2 behind CeeDee Lamb when he's up to speed with the offense. Beckham can be stashed in deeper leagues for now.

I think Bills and Rams are the teams that make some sense, though if the Rams lose to Arizona this week, which is probably a 50-50 game, it might be too little too late.

I don't really see why Dallas would be interested. Is Dallas suddenly going to become a pass 1st team, with that defense?

Vikings make no sense at all, is Beckham (post-ACL) better than Thielen? I'd bet against it. Feels like Hockenson already added that major weapon. Same with SF, is Beckham better than Aiyuk? I'd say probably not, and adding CMC was their big addition.

A reunion with the Giants would be very interesting. Nobody there now was really there when Beckham was. I don't imagine there is any bad blood between the team and Beckham.

The team that makes the most sense to me would be Baltimore. Especially now that Bateman is on IR. It'd be one of the only places Beckham could still be a #1, and he's been complimentary of Lamar in past interviews.

For fantasy value, my order of preference would be:
1. Buffalo
2. Baltimore
3. NY Giants
4. LA Rams

I think Jerrah sees OBJ making key, clutch catches in a valve release role for their offense during the playoff push. They don't need to become pass 1st for that to happen.

What's odd about Jerrah and OBJ and his fascination is that he sees, in real time, what Michael Gallup is bringing to the table after his ACL tear, which happened earlier than Beckham. What part of "slow healing process" does Jerrah not understand?

It’s extremely unlikely but the Titans desperately need a go to receiver. They probably would have beaten the chiefs with OBJ on the field this week.
Not with the QB that was throwing the ball. He looked horrible.

Gotta agree with this. If Tannehill was there, then yes, they might have beaten KC with OBJ, too. But Willis didn't even throw the football for goodness sake.

I feel like it all optics with Jerruh.

If he’s not making a move, he believes he’s seen as being ineffective.

Even if it’s a gigantic fail, he can say, “hey, I made a move. Don’t blame me.”

Willis passed the ball 16 times to receivers who belong on practice squads. Many were bad passes, but at least a handful (I lost track) of those passes that were dropped should have been caught by competent receivers. OBJ hasn’t been the same receiver since he left NY, but still would be their #1 and give them a fighting shot.

Even MV seems to agree. “I tell you what, he threw some really nice deep balls,” coach Mike Vrabel said after the game. “I mean, we went up and down with three of them that we have to make. Again, we get into this drop back game, that is not where we want to play the game. I know we made some really nice balls that got up and down that hopefully we can figure out a way to catch and come down with.”

Won’t happen but a guy can hope.

I think you're exactly right. And I think Jerrah falls in love with guys that were special and that he didn't have many years ago, remembers what they were back then, and thinks it holds constant.

Jerry is 1000% keeping his Cowboys in the press on their Bye week. No doubt the Cowboys kick the tires but to Jerry, EVERYTHING is a sales pitch and this is no different.

Don't count out the Vikings...they redid Brian O'Neill's contract to clear up more space and Thielen looks slow. Also O'Connell knows OBJ and what he can do in his offense.

Good point but I believe OBJ said hes going to a warm weather location. I would throw LAC into the mix but doubt it happens. I think it's about 90% chance it's Dallas

Just snagged him for free off FCFS waivers. Don't really need him but the potential is too great to let someone else benefit.
For free he obviously isn't going to cost you anything, but I am not so sure about the "potential being too great" part. The last time OBJ had a 100-yard receiving game in the regular season was in October of 2019.

Let's say he gets picked up by an NFL team and is available 12/1. Since 12/1/2019 (basically 3 years), he's played in 26 games and by then will have missed 24 games. In the games he played, he averaged 10.5 ppg in 1 PPR leagues. In 2022 so far, that would be good enough to rank as the WR45. But that's completely ignoring him going to a new team, having a new QB, having no training camp, recovering from injury, not being in game shape, and not having played any football in 10 months. The first two on the list would fall off if he ended up with the Rams again, but he could end up in a completely different system with a playbook he's never even seen before.

I would love to look at my opponent's fantasy lineup in a few weeks' time and see OBJ in it. IMO, the chances he does much are pretty slim. In those 26 games I mentioned, he was a Top 20 fantasy WR in only 5 of those games. Yes, two of those were with the Rams, but he was crazy TD dependent in his time with LA (7 TD in 12 games).

I don't know how late in the fantasy season you can trade players in your league, but I think the shark move would be to hope he has a game with a couple of TD and then trade him for whatever you can get for him.

Cant really argue with any of that. Right now he's basically a WR4-5 on my squad...Already have Diggs, DHop, Higgins, Evans and DJ Moore.

I forgot to mention that the recent few years of OBJ are very similar to what Josh Gordon produced per game from 2017-19 (when people held out hope that he would make a fantasy comeback). Gordon was 26-28 years old in that timeframe and averaged 9.6 fantasy PPG (which would rank as WR 49 this year in terms of PPG). The last three seasons, OBJ was 26-28 years old and averaged 10.5 fantasy PPG (which would rank as WR 45 this season). Gordon missed a ton of time with suspensions, Beckham with injuries. Clearly OBJ has more of a chance to contribute moving forward, but I thought there was some interesting overlap of how they produced with several disrupted seasons and playing on multiple teams. We don't know what we don't know, and what we don't know if multiple injuries has caused OBJ to lose a step (and thus become a JAG receiver). But he averaged 93 yards per game in NYG, 55 ypg in CLE, and 38 ypg in LAR.
