WR Pat Bryant, DEN (2 Viewers)

Josh Norris
"There were so many parts of his game that reminded me of Michael Thomas"

Sean Payton on WR Pat Bryant

This is why the Broncos drafted WR Pat Bryant

felt like no one wanted to talk about Bryant over the last few months!

Some of the best hands in this class, and plenty of toe drags to come down with difficult sideline catches

I really like Bryant's game. He's also tied to a good young QB in an emerging offense.

You can get Bryant pretty cheap, as well. He seems to be going late in rookie drafts.

I tried to get him in all 3 of the FFPC drafts I’m currently in, but only got him in 2:
- 4.7 in Superflex
- 4.3 in 1QB (SharkPool league :) )
- and he went at 4.8 to someone else in my other 1QB league (I’m more RB a needy in that league so went Etienne at 4.6 instead of Bryant fwiw)

And now Payton will proceed to bring in another WR and gush about how great he is. I just can't take Payton seriously.

He’s not getting enough love. If you pass on him when you should have grabbed him you’ll regret it!

Tex
Would listen to the sales pitch as I am just not seeing it. Seems like a pretty tough kid with decent size and good hands. The early comparison Matt Harmon gave was Tim Patrick which fits well for the Broncos but does not excite me much for FF. Small Harmon sample (3 games) gave some ugly stats like 50% success versus man coverage and bad markers on slants.

Denver Broncos

“As the best pass protector among the running backs, Williams was often the one deployed on third-down or long passing situations. Denver figures to give Dobbins a long look in that third-down role ahead of Week 1.”

“Pat Bryant has exceptional hands in traffic, according to Sean Payton. Loves his size and physicality.”

Sean Payton said RJ Harveyhas looked good with his receiving but hasn’t earned his “Joker wings” yet.

“Pat Bryant really taking advantage of the extra reps with Bo Nix and the 1st team offense with Devaughn Vele still out. Caught a beautiful TD on a corner route during high Red Zone. Caught another TD from Stidham during another RZ drill later”

Sean Payton made the Michael Thomas comp on WR Pat Bryant after he drafted him in April. So far, Payton hasn’t been disappointed. “Little things we’re coaching up. But you like what you see, I like what I see,” he said. “He’s tough … It’s so important to him.”

Pat Bryant put himself on the NFL radar with a dominant performance in his senior year at Illinois. He was generally projected to be a Day 3 pick at the start of 2025, but the Broncos did not want to take the chance of missing out on Bryant, and selected him in the middle of Day 2.

Dating back to his time in New Orleans, Sean Payton has a history of making stars out of big-bodied WRs who lack blazing speed. In his first year as the Saints’ head coach, Payton turned Marques Colston into an overnight fantasy star after the wide receiver almost went undrafted that year. With Colston’s reign as the team’s WR1 coming to an end a decade later, Payton was able to turn Michael Thomas into a league winner as a rookie.

Payton’s comments since Denver selected Bryant could lead us to believe that his new rookie WR might just be the next wideout to emerge and help lead fantasy managers to championships. But should we believe him?

Diving deeper into Bryant’s advanced stats does give us more reason to be optimistic, as his 3.2 yards per route run in 2024 came in second to only Tre Harris among the 2025 rookie WR class, while his 0.109 points earned per play was second to none. Additionally, Bryant proved to be both a reliable target and difficult to bring down, with his 94.0% on-target catch percentage and 33.3% evasion rate (on perfectly balanced 16.7% broken tackle and forced missed tackle rates) both trailing only Luther Burden III among wideouts selected on the first two days of the draft. Bryant’s 38.6% boom rate also illustrates his penchant for putting up big plays, while his 6.0% bust rate shows that he also has a knack for avoiding costly mistakes.

Nothing but good things coming from him.

I think the pitch is really easy with this blurb:

Now this doesn't mean Bryant is a can't miss...he definitely isn't...but Payton has history with this type of player and invested a third in Bryant so that has to lead you to believe the potential is there for some productivity...overall the cost of Bryant (at least right now) is probably somewhere in the range of a third round rookie pick and using a roster spot on him so the downside is very limited IMO...I grabbed him in both my Dynasty leagues and was excited to do so but my expectations are realistic and I will let this play out but overall I think he is worthy of a roster spot at least for the beginning of the year...the potential upside of grabbing Marques Colston 2.0 is enticing.

Pat Bryant does so many little things at a high level. Here he recognizes the play breaking down, works back to Bo, and makes a contested grab to convert a first down.

Luca Evans
#Broncos QB Bo Nix with high praise for Pat Bryant. Said he had a play last week where a pass got broken up because Bryant used his body, learned from it, plucked one with his hands later in game.

“He’s an every-down receiver. Just getting better and better each and every week.”

May be looking at the Broncos’ future #1 WR once Sutton is out of the picture (maybe sooner)
Noticed he outsnapped Franklin. Wondering if Bryant is the one to own over Franklin?
Doing some due diligence on Twitter, seems like some analysts are saying that Bryant got more snaps than Franklin due to Pat’s better run blocking prowess. That doesn’t make sense though when you consider that the Broncos run to pass ratio was 23:45 on Sunday.

Hard to say whether Bryant has overtaken Franklin in the pecking order, as it could have been game script/opponent related. This Sunday should be telling.

I picked up Bryant 2 weeks ago, seeing the trend in playing time.
I know he's passed Franklin on depth chart.
I have a feeling as I stated in another post,Bryant cld be helpful down the stretch as Denver gets him more involved, especially after Dobbins went down.
I knew Denver wld have to throw a bit more.
And Think Bryant shows this week against Raiders that he has passed Franklin for good and ros as Denver #1-2 wr,splitting top targets share with Sutton.

Dynasty .. Benches aren't deep but would you stash a guy like Bryant over Coker Dike or Vele. I also own Sutton.

Coker is close for me, the others you mentioned not so much. Bryant is ascending, plays in a much better offense and was hand-picked by the current regime in DEN. That tips it in his favor, imo.

JJ Zachariason's Week 14 Data Dump
🟢 Pat Bryant had a 67% route share against the Raiders on Sunday. Troy Franklin was at 40% — his lowest route share all season. That's the second straight game Bryant has run more routes than Franklin.
Troy Franklin was 5th in WR snaps last week. It sure seems like after the Bye week Denver reassessed their WR room and elevated Bryant.
I disagree.

First, the Broncos permanently elevated blocking TE Marcedes Lewis from the PS to the 53-man roster after being inactive for two games. This was a tell that Sean Payton was going to prioritize the run game vs the Raiders after being relatively anemic the past two weeks. Blocking WR LJ Humphrey also got 38% snap share which further validates the ball-control game plan.

Second, Payton stated afterwards how he tried to dial up at least 9-10 downfield "shot" plays (i.e. Franklin and Mims as primary targets), but because the Raiders played so much Cover 2 Nix was constantly forced to check down and take the open under route/checkdown guys (e.g. Bryant, Sutton, Engram, Harvey).

So it was more a function of game planning and game flow that resulted in Franklin's statistical underperformance.

There is no evidence of a "reassessment" of the WR room other than fluky stats

you're free to disagree, but the trend was in place before the Raiders game; unless you're saying it was the gameplan against the Commanders also.

I"m saying there isn't a hierarchy beyond Sutton at the top (and even that is not a given). It's all game plan dependent and game flow dependent based on Nix's reads. That's how the Payton offense is designed.

Broncos WR Pat Bryant (hamstring) did not practice Wednesday.

Bryant had been quietly earning more work in the Denver offense in recent weeks. He has 17 targets over his past three games and has flipped Troy Franklin in the pecking order for routes. Bryant was added to the injury report on Thursday last week but participated in at least a limited capacity throughout the week. A DNP today could be a sign that his hamstring issue worsened during Sunday’s game. Franklin would reclaim his starting role if Bryant can’t suit up in Week 15.
