WR Rashee Rice, KC (11 Viewers)

My main concern in all honesty is how his usage looks with second year Worthy and Brown being a bigger part of the offense.
I think he’s going to be a target monster.

TBD, of course, but Mahomes loves throwing to him. Worthy seems to have a pretty specific non-competing skill set. Brown seems like the type to take touches from Worthy more than Rice.

If Kelce continues to look like he’s continuing his descent, that probably opens up some targets as well.

By the way, you did not actually specify that the person was a member/poster here.
Actually was not really referring to anyone here, was thinking more along the lines of the Dr. Jesse dude on twitter, dudes like him.
Oh - ok yeah. I’m actually off Xitter, in part because anyone with $8 can pretend to be an orthopedic surgeon, but you get no argument from me.

I go with the doctor 100/100x over 100s of armchair orthos on YouTube for sure.

All this aside, I’m now super excited about Rice. All that remains to know is the suspension (if there is one, and how long).
:hifive:

He is a WR1 if he fully recovers from his injury. He is a PPR machine

Patrick Mahomes told reporters that Rashee Rice (knee) looks like himself and has “no limitations.”
According to The Kansas City Star’s Sam McDowell, Rice was unable to participate in today’s voluntary organized team activities (OTAs) “because of an illness, not due to his injury,” adding that Rice is “progressing well.” This week’s OTAs are the first since the team hosted a one-off event on April 21st. The next session is scheduled for next week, from June 2-5. Assuming Rice’s ailment is behind him come Monday, the event should help us confirm whether Rice really is the new Mr. Unlimited. On April 1st, Reid told reporters that Rice was “on track to be ready” for training camp

That's the update I've been waiting on. Giddy up.

for FF...the biggest key is the timing of the court proceedings...

I'm a KC fan, but the league has to send a message here after the verdict and IMO it should be pretty severe....he is looking at things that can be proven by video....not he said she said of witnesses, etc....he was driving recklessly, with no regard to others and endangering innocent lives.....caused an accident at high speeds with multiple innocent victims....and he left the scene of an accident (and I will go ahead and say it)....like some gangster thug who just stole something.....it's not a good look...

he is probably already going to get away with being under the influence or whatever....but I think we all know what is going on here...this to me is the exact type of thing that the NFL needs to come down hard on to protect the image of the shield or whatever....these guys need to leave the gangster stuff at the door when they join the league.....I'm not really expecting "more" out of them then the general public/working force....but they need to send a message....

may be hard to know when a verdict or plea is agreed upon...but it should be at least an immediate 8 game suspension IMO...if not more....I can't just chalk it up to a bad decision....(in fact some including myself have said for him personally he may have made a good decision to leave)....but to me it doesn't change what the length of the suspension should be...I'm drafting accordingly...

I don’t disagree with much of this, but will add a couple of points to consider. Please note I am not making any moral judgements here, nor condoning what I believe is likely:
• the NFL has a habit of being a post hoc eval penalty type team. Nobody got killed. The injuries reported were minor (and some will go away with payola). That could help to keep the penalty milder than you’re asserting here.
• Rice behavior since has been good. He’s doing / saying the right things.
• the more time goes by, the softer a PR hit the league takes if they dole out minimal punishment.
• finally, the NFL isn’t in the habit of killing their cash cows. The Chiefs are must-see TV. Suspending Rice impacts the Chiefs.

Do I know any of that for a fact? Of course not. Just wild speculation based on what I’ve seen in the past. They tend to issue harsher penalties based on outcomes rather than circumstances.

Yeah, Rice’s circumstances were horrible. But the outcome (thank goodness) wasn’t that bad.

I believe it’ll be 4 games reduces to 2, or 3 reduced to 1 with some sort of community service.

Optimistic perhaps, but I’ve been guilty in the past of guessing the proper moral penalty and I’ve been proved wrong by the NFL’s lack of concern for that time and time again. Makes me cynical as hell that some major punishment will be issued.

This is defense attorney & FBG writer Drew Davenport’s take on the subject from April 5th:
Defense Attorney and FootballGuys writer Drew Davenport believes there's a "better than even chance" that Chiefs WR Rashee Rice will not be suspended in 2025 for his role in a street-racing crash a little over a year ago. Davenport points out that Rice's case has not been indicted yet, so the legal process might not be wrapped up until after the coming season.

What They're Saying

Davenport: "No evidence that a case has even been indicted yet. … Even if the case were to get indicted tomorrow it's a complicated case that will take time to unravel, particularly if the case proceeds to trial. Multiple high-level felonies could mean we are talking 2026 offseason before this case gets anywhere."

“better than even chance of no suspension” seems like good odds that shareholders will be ok.

Let's suppose he is healthy. Lets also suppose he is not gonna get suspended. What do people think his value is in rookie drafts? Dudes just 25. Without much thought id actually think I'd give up 1.03 for him. To high? He had a really good rookie year and was on pace to just be a monster last year. Hmmmm

If he were in a rookie draft with those assumptions, he’s 1.02, IMO. If I had 1.01 I might trade back to take Rice.

He’s the kind of player I’d pick over Cam Ward in SF even if I needed a QB. Target hog in a Mahomes offense. The only ding would be his age, because 25 is pretty old for a rookie.

Maybe Hunter still goes ahead in IDP leagues because of the CB points he’ll get.

Honestly don’t see a WR in the 2025 rookie draft with his PPR upside. I’d say that even if I knew he had a 3-4 game suspension coming.

I may be out on an island.

Disclaimer: Rice is a knucklehead and did something totally awful. It’s hard to divorce my FF opinion from my personal opinion. Especially since I sold my soul and traded for him. I’m not proud.

I just gave up 1.12, 2.12, 2026 1,2,3 for him. I was stoked at this price

Your not on an island. I'm tracking you. He would absolutely for sure be my #1 wr in this draft. Obviously Jeanty. Then I got Hampton. I'd have a tough time taking Rice over Hampton personally. He just reminds me on an Eddie George Lite. I know I haven't read that comp, but that style just seems similar to me.

Noticed that some on here said he tore his ACL when he in fact did not. He tore his LCL. Now I can't tell you if that is better than tearing an ACL or not as far as his future goes but I just know it wasn't his ACL.

He sustained an LCL injury in his right knee, and his hamstring tendon was also repaired, but his MCL, ACL, and meniscus were not part of the procedure.

I had a bad problem of using FFPC startup value to base my trades on for value. This is what real people are doing for real money drafts so it is hard to argue against that being the "value" of players. You may not agree on certain players but when there are 20+ drafts that is what the community thinks.

Rice ADP is 35
DK is 63
Darnold is basically free 215
2nd round pick in the range of 27-32 (16 team league those would be the 6 playoff teams) the 27th rookie ADP is 139

Now my league is 16 teams Darnold carries more value I am only with Purdy now that is the real gamble.

I think people forget how Rice started
First 10 games - 46 targets
Next 9 games - 85 targets
That 9 game stretch extrapolates to 161 targets over 17.

Even assuming a 15% drop-off due to [injury, quality of defense, game flow] that would still be 136 targets.

I would be most pleased if he gets 136 targets. Based on past performance he’d have roughly a 100 catch season at that rate.

I am only with Purdy now that is the real gamble.
Safer to gamble at QB in a 1-QB format though. Purdy has to hit, but you should be able to make a move for a QB2.
16 team league hard to get QB's no one is on waiver wire except nobodies that might play if a QB gets hurt.

I can't even get Mac Jones I asked the guy what he wanted for him he said "I would need a lot if Purdy goes down he is going to be gold" and this guy has Jayden Daniels.

2 firsts, 2 seconds, and a third?
I’m assuming they will be late since it’s the 1.12, but that still seems pretty pricey to me.

1.3 is reasonable but he’s still got an field knucklehead risk factor and at this point I think he’s a good talent massively propped up being in a talented well coached system conducive to his skill set. That might end in 2 seasons,

Also I refuse to believe he’ll never get suspended. May only be a few games and not this year but he’ll miss some games. But if it’s just a few it’s insignificant

Yes, the future picks next year are my own which was 1.12 this year.

Defenses the past few years have tamed Mahomes and this offense by taking away the downfield pass. Or is it because Tyreek left? Either way, Mahomes has a clear preference to sling it. But he will take the underneath stuff reluctantly.

For a Rice owner person, Worthy's late season surge could cause some concern. That is, Mahomes finally getting a deep threat receiver to replace the Cheatah. Seems to me, almost every time, he'll throw a bomb to the outside reciever before taking that option route out of the slot. If he can trust the dude to catch it.

On the other hand, Kelce still feasted when Hill was there. Ppl have noted above how Kelce's downfall has correlated with Rashee Rice's success. So maybe it's over-thinking.

That is excessive for Rice. Hope it works out for you. Two firsts, 2 seconds and a third could get you someone better than Rice - someone not coming off a serious injury.

Fine with your opinion, but it’s 1.12, 2.12, a late first, second, and third.
I agree two random firsts and seconds is excessive.

Agreed, these are end of the round and the reigning champ just got better and will be late again. I had the 10 & 12 in one of my leagues and tried to buy a WR this offseason for that combo but nobody was selling for those late picks, would a couple of dart throw 2nds and 3rd have moved the needle much? I doubt it. Other competing teams rarely give up good WR's for late picks and make their team weaker while making a competitor stronger. Rebuilding teams maybe but they'd probably be shopping for better picks with a higher % of chance of hitting or just holding their young WR's while they rebuild.

Anyone think mahommes peppers the hell out of him to make up for his injury? It was literally his fault with the interception then diving into leg after that
I don’t think that’s how offenses operate, but this thought did occur to me.

He was on pace for 160 targets last year when he got hurt so it seems like Mahomes is going to pepper him with targets regardless.

Of course, in the 1st hour of today I was on pace to eat 24 breakfasts. Pleased to say I’ve fallen off that pace by quite a bit 4 hours later. Alas, I’m only on pace to eat 6 breakfasts now.

Could a look a like in Jalen Royals come in and take the shine off of Rice. Worthy the deep guy with Rice and Royals manning other 2 spots but Royals poaching some expected targets.

I think this is a narrative that Royals shareholders would love to become reality.

I see that as a long shot. As a rookie he’s likely a special teamer. Maybe a couple big catches here and there.

I know he’s getting a lot of love as a “Rashee clone” in FF circles, but there’s a reason Royals went in the 4th round.

I think one thing we know about the NFL is this we don't know anything about the NFL. Football is gonna football. Could Royals come in and just take over? I guess. I just go back to the first handful of games last year. Mahomes was just peppering the best wr in the team. They just clicked. Slants. Screens. 3rd downs. Was just beautiful to watch. I just don't see how that doesn't happen again. But. Football will football. I'm buying.

Injury aside, usually stupid people don’t suddenly become smart. Sometimes they do, but most of the time they don’t. No way in hell would I invest a lot into Rice.

No, but reckless people with something to lose often become less reckless.

I’ve seen it with alcoholism 1st hand. When that DUI hits and you wake up in the drunk tank, and are bailed out by your wife with your 2 kids in tow… that sort of rock bottom will send ya to rehab. (This was not me. This was a friend)

Rice’s misguided evening took a bad turn, and hopefully he got a good scare from it. And hopefully he’ll see a substantial fine along with the settlements to those he hurt, and whatever form of restitution to the state (probation, additional fines, community service, etc)

maybe he won’t get smarter - from a FF perspective I hope he gets more careful in avoiding mistakes like this. He’s very young. Definitely has time to learn stuff.

You must not like a lot of athletes. Thank you. Thank you. I'll be here all week please try the veal.

Look. I don't know this kid. I have no ability to give you an opinion of his IQ. How could I? He made a very poor and reckless decision that could have went way worse. It was ugly to watch. Was this a one time thing where so many athletes display narcissistic behavior not understanding consequences? Is this behavior normal for him? Has he had other incidents like this? Did he get poor grades in school? Is he really dumb? Do family members laugh at how dumb he is? Is he Joey from Friends? I'm honestly asking. I have no idea.

Did he get poor grades in school? Is he really dumb?

While there’s no info I can find on his GPA, I did find that SMU requires their student athletes to maintain a 3.0 GPA.

So he was smart enough to have a B Average, or he was smart enough to pay other kids to produce homework resulting in a B average.

lol
It's why I love this site. I post a question more so to make a point and I get it literally answered. Even more important it was good information I didn't know I needed until I did. B student so factually speaking he isn't dumb dumb right? Ha ha
