Agreed. Whether one agrees or not, civil lawsuits mean very little to the NFL. Only headline that would matter would be some actual news on any criminal charges, and on that front it has been eerily silent for a long while.
Antonio Brown and Deshaun Watson were sent away for extremely long times over civil lawsuits.

I'm betting Chiefs' major decision-makers took Jalen Royals as possible replacement of Rashee Rice due to possibility of slow recovery from his *catastrophic* knee injury last year or increasing legal liability.

He’s reportedly fully recovered. Patrick Mahomes just went on social media and said he looks “like pre-injury self”, and there’s a video I posted above of him making crazy cuts on a fast cone drill.
Also it wasn’t “catastrophic” (or claustrophobic, lol) - as cited numerous times in this topic, it wasn’t his ACL or MCL as previously reported.
They took Royals because the Chiefs like drafting upside players in the 4th round. Rice hasn’t been replaced. And even if he’s suspended, chances are good that while he’s out it will be Hollywood Brown, Travis Kelce, and Worthy that pick up extra reps.

This is the time of year where I don't believe what Andy Reid says or what Patrick Mahomes says. I believe my eyes and videos. The video I saw of Rice running through drills is what matters to me. It was May and he didn't look like an athlete going slow in recovery. Imo
AB also pleaded no contest to felony burglary and battery a month before his suspension, I imagine that factored in a bit (not too minimize his alleged multiple sexual assaults and rape per the civil suit.) Watson's situation was so beyond the pale it's not even worth bringing up as an actual example.
I think you are understimating PR in both cases and Rice is also facing felony charges.
In AB's case if you recall he was pleading with Goodell to suspend him but he was dangling his cases being unresolved and not until he settled his civil lawsuit did they suspend him.
If the Civil trial or situation leads to public outcry the NFL generally acts accordingly, have always believed suspensions length that's not directly mandated by the CBA is in proportion to the public outcry.
But as concise as I can say this I respectfully disagree wholeheartedly that you can make a blanket statement that civil trials don't matter. In fact in both of these cases I'm pretty sure they one of the reasons they both settled was so more damaging information that turned the public against them more could not come out.
I expect Rice to do the same. He won't want to hear victim testimony of the fright, injuries, health and job issues some of them claim to have had while he's offered no assistance post-accident or any time since. You start introducing testimony of parents whose kids and their injuries and risk of more injury and that's how public sentiment changes on you you move from maybe a 2-3 game suspension to 6-8. Not suggesting he's getting suspended like those two did. but I am absolutely saying the civil trials matter.

if he only gets 1-2 games.....KC haters/Chiefs fatigue mafia and those that think KC gets preferential treatment will be out with lanterns and pitchforks...I disagree losing Rice for an extended period is killing the cash cow....KC will go on about their business and the majority will still tune in cause they still want to see them lose....Rice isn't the straw stirring the drink here....

This is the biggest issue - he has not made smart decisions and I don't think that will change. I sure hope it does but it is very risky. He's a guy that decided racing and stunting on a busy freeway was a good idea, then when he caused a significant multi-car crash he though fleeing the scene was a good idea.
The talent and targets aren't the concern here but him keeping his nose clean is. If he's learned his lesson and will take responsibility and be accountable I could maybe go in on Rice but its risky right now.

Last I checked the NFL couldn’t care less about that.
If he is suspended in 2025, it will be commensurate with whatever he’s actually charged with / convicted of.
We’ve seen time and time again players getting off with a much lighter penalty than anyone here thinks they deserve to. I myself am guilty of assuming things will be handled justly, and I’ve been wrong just about every time.
This time I’m letting the cynicism win.

The Kansas City Star’s Sam McDowell reports Rashee Rice (knee) was a full participant in Wednesday’s practice.
For what it’s worth, McDowell also noted that Rice had a good day. Patrick Mahomes told reporters last week that Rice had “no limitations” after suffering a season-ending injury in 2024. Rice, however, was held out of practice with an illness but is back in action as of Wednesday. All signs point to Rice being a full-go heading into Week 1 if his legal situation remains in limbo. Rice caught 24 passes for 288 yards and two scores in three games before going down with the knee injury last year. Even with an ADP quickly making its way into the third round in early drafts, Rice looks like a clear breakout target this summer

In Season 2 Electric Boogaloo, Rice was on pace for 120+ catches, 1500+ yds and 10+ TDs
His season was cut short so we'll never know but even if he fell off that pace and ended up with 100/1300/8TD
His current ADP is around WR20

Seems like a pivotal point for a buy window in dynasty. His value only increases with more notes/videos of him looking good. He is a bit older for a third year player (25) and the knucklehead factor could come into play whether KC re-signs him or not. Risk/reward play that could pay off or another incident/injury occurs that sucks the air out of the balloon.

Yeah I think there is a lot of community wide hesitation because of the uncertainty between Rice Worthy and even Hollywood, along with the sort of impending "is Kelce done or if not then when?" Plus the legal stuff etc.
All the more reason that the time may be now as you say. Getting such high Reception Perception marks is going to reverberate a bit and if he emerges in-season it will be too late. I have a hard time believing any of these mouths are going to command a consistently dominant target share from week to week the way we fantasy managers want them to and so I'm generally not a buyer. But I sure see the possibility that one of them emerges and Rice seems to be the leader in the clubhouse. Worthy is intriguing as heck for me too though.

If you check the Reddit Sleeper or Dynasty subs, you’ll see that a very large swath of groupthink believes
• Rice is cripppled
• Rice is going to jail
• Rice will be suspended for the year
Most recently I saw a “should I accept this deal?” post with JSN as the WR on one side and Rice as the WR on the other, and almost every comment mentioned JSN >> Rice
I’m a big fan of JSN, but I find that ranking to be off by a sizable margin. We have no idea what JSN’s season will look like with Darnold under center, and more importantly shifting a % of snaps to the outside (at least that’s what’s been described as their intention in various updates I’ve read).
Meanwhile Rice looks fantastic at OTAs, Mahomes says he’s 100% back to normal, and prior to the injury Rice was on pace for roughly eleventy gazillion targets last year.
I see him as the clear WR1 in KC, and a potential top 10 WR. I’d be shocked if the Chiefs don’t extend him given that Kelce’s career is winding down, and Hollywood Brown isn’t exactly an alpha WR. I like Worthy, but I don’t see him as the same type of WR as Rice (I don’t think anyone does, but I can only speak for myself).
Pretty soon the pads will come out and videos of Rice will emerge of him dominating every kind of coverage like he was doing early last year when I envied those with shares.
I tried to buy low in 3 leagues, ended up buying relatively fair in one and striking out in the other 2 because those owners are paying attention.
I agree that any buy-low window he has will close pretty quickly. If you’re very lucky and play in a league with some of those Redditors you can probably get him cheap because he’s a cripple who will get suspended and put in prison.

I’m definitely optimistic.
I have them roughly in the same tier now, with Rice as the higher ranked WR within that tier.
I believe of the 2, Rice has the tools and situation to elevate a couple of tiers. I think JSN has the tools, but not necessarily the situation to do the same, but as I said, I could be wrong there.
No argument that I’m optimistic about him.

Good post, yeah I mean I'm not saying you're wrong about Rice, I was just mostly speaking to what I think the groupmind fears are. He *is* the one most likely to really emerge and there are strong arguments for him.
As for JSN I'm a pretty staunch disagree there. I'd break my fingers to take a straight up deal like that. He is *going* to get 150-175 targets as the clear alpha. Going to the outside more, on top of his abilities from the slot, is an incredibly good thing for fantasy and I have been stunned this whole time the narrative went the other way when word came out he was going to run more outside routes. HFS that's a good thing. Dude is going to get so many targets this year. I'm not a Darnold believer but I don't care.
You have to be right about Rice for him to return *even* value on a straight up trade for JSN. For me I see too many whack a mole weeks where Rice hits a very low floor but JSN still gets peppered. And I don't see any world where the Rice side wins that trade. Best case it's break even.

Possible sure. That deal from Reddit I described wasn’t straight up Rice for JSN, it also involved Barkley & Hall and a couple of picks.
I’m just saying the comments section was pretty wild to follow - the unwashed masses of Reddit are cursed with some of the strongest groupthink I’ve seen anywhere, and at the moment there seems to be a lot of misinformation on Rice’s health & legal status.
So if a buy-low window exists, it’s going to close pretty quickly when some of those beliefs don’t manifest.
Like @FarFromHome, I have them in roughly the same tier. I’m not sure which side I’d prefer in a 1:1. You might be correct about JSN (and I’m sure I’m higher on Darnold than you) but Mahomes >>> Darnold, and I’d probably use team/coaching/QB as the tiebreaker were I choosing between them.
It’ll be interesting to see where their respective ADP is for redraft come August when I may have to make that choice.

and yeah if there were other pieces in that trade offer then forget what I said. I don't think they're too far off and I could buy having them in the same tier. They certainly are in terms of price in redraft and best ball but notably not dynasty, or are they? I honestly only have ever had one share of JSN in dynasty and it was from a startup two months ago so it's my first. I don't *think* I've had any of Rice. I took JSN at 3.05 (TriFlex so QBs fly off) as WR12 and Rice came off 4.01 at WR17 so not a huge gap. That feels about right to me. Gosh I just don't know anyone can command a consistent dominant target share there. And it is *that* fear more than anything else that makes it a good buy-low window because I think we could wave a magic wand and all the legal troubles never happened and he still goes in the exact same spot in drafts he is going now. I think the mouths to feed problem is what is driving this gap.
And to be clear I'm not sold that my take is correct, it's just where my gut lays. I'm mostly focused on redraft mentality and Rice's price is just too much for me there but in dynasty, I tend not to look to buy low on receivers that are already pretty high. If it costs JSN but I'm able to upgrade at RB or something then yeah that gap is feasible. TLDR I should probably be drafting more of Rice. In addition to Worthy and the possibility of one more sunset reboundish Kelce season, I really think Hollywood is more of a problem here than most realize. If he is healthy he can command targets too.

JSN just feels safer to me. Might not be a league winner, but a guy that is gonna always produce. Rice seems like the guy who has a chance to be the #1 scoring wr. He is a possible league winner, but also could decide to go reckless racing again. I generally am a gambler.

That’s tough. I’d prefer rice, but remember, I’m the optimistic one.
I just don’t see any players outside the top 3-4 with Rice’s upside, especially if WR is your need. It’s not a great draft for WR on paper. I mean, some will probably emerge, but it’s kinda unpredictable.
I wouldn’t hesitate to pay 2025 1.06 for Rice, but that’s me.

I’m easily on board with paying 1.06 for Rice. I would pay as much as 1.03.
HSG I am surprised you start by saying that is tough if you also say you prefer JSN to Rice. Wouldn’t you easily take JSN over 1.06?

I have 1.03. I'm sold on Hampton and I'm pretty sure he will be there after conversations with owner of pick 2. Rice owner has sniffed at my pick because he knows I'm a fan. The owner is preying on me. Every other day I'm moving that pick for Rice. Smh

Welcome to my world. Im sold on Hampton. I really am. I just also believe Rice is that guy. After this season I think he will be in the Jefferson and a Chase tier. All my opinion of course.

In this draft I’d prefer either to 1.06
I prefaced with “it’s tricky” mostly because I’m trying to consider all the angles at 1.06 - if it’s me I’m hunting WR, so it becomes a no-brainer. I like both Rice & JSN over Hunter or Tet.
But if I’m trying to answer someone else, there might be a RB or TE worth considering at 6, and if the team build needs those it definitely becomes a tougher decision.

I like Rice and all but I think those expecting him to continue where he left off in 2024 will be disappointed. 32 percent target share isn't happening with Worthy now established, Brown healthy and Kelce still hanging around and supposedly in better shape this year.
I am buying in on Mahomes though . Traded for him in one dynasty and took him in a startup. Best weapons he has had in the last 3 seasons and I am buying into Fat Andy and Mahomes wanting to get back to throwing the ball all over the field.
