For Rice I think the projection of 2-4 games that came out initially as what the team expected was light. I would be surprised if it wasn't 6+. That said, I am excited for Rice in dynasty and bought another share this offseason. I am glad the suspension should take place this year to get that out of the way. Whether that changes with a suspension will probably be dependent on whether it’s 2, 4, 6, or longer. I’m skeptical it’s longer, but it’s possible.

While this is probably true, (and I am not dismissing or in any way minimizing the severity of the issue), because he fled the scene he managed to avoid this particular land mine.

He likely faced a greater penalty in his plea agreement because of fleeing the scene, but one could argue it was actually helpful to his cause since he didn’t also get hit with possession or DUI/DWI charges.

The league really can’t punish him for a DUI or possession as a result. Maybe Goodell could lean towards the longer end of a potential suspension because of it? Honestly don’t know all the workings of the NFLPA - while generally considered a weak union, there are guidelines in place for how the league penalizes players.

Perhaps someone more familiar with NFLPA guidelines can speak to that in better detail.

Similar to my original post where I said I wouldn’t take him until my WR3 in 7th/8th. Most replies were that he’d be gone by then. And I was fine with that too.

He’s going to rot on my bench for half the season (potentially) since FFPC doesn’t allow suspended player to go on IR.

I think this is a great comparison to look out. One thing I’d point out though is Hopkins was 30 and busted for PED’s. I’d be much more concerned about that for fantasy football than a 25 year old for off the field conduct. No way to measure the difference in how the consensus will feel though until we see the actual hit.

DV / SA is a vastly different issue with vastly different options available to the commish. Your 2 examples are related to DV and SA, and not applicable to the Rice situation.

I’m reasonably certain that the bolded is incorrect. The length/breadth of punishments available to Goodell are outlined in the CBA.

That an often repeated fallacy. The NFL performs its own investigations independent of anything the police do, and they can be much more thorough than the police given the resources they have to expend, that the number of cases is substantially lower, and the demand to protect the integrity of the shield by the owners.

The example I like to use is Zeke’s suspension. You kept hearing from some how arbitrary the suspension was, but when the league released publicly the amount of evidence they had accumulated - something that some here still don’t know - it was an amazing amassment of a deep dive into every thread attached to the situation.

Make no mistake, the league takes this stuff very seriously and their rulings are likely very well founded even though most times we never see the body of evidence they have. Additionally, they do not have the same burden as a criminal suit. All they have to do is present enough evidence to the commish to persuade enough of an argument that he can have a strong picture of the entire situation and then hand down his ruling.

My guess is 6 games. If you're playing against high competition, I'd probably leave him for someone else.

If you're in a league you consistently do good in, and feel confident you can out draft people in the later rounds, I'm targeting him. He will probably really help a lot of teams win titles this year, but only if you can get into playoffs and have a 3-3 or better record without him.

Also am pairing him with Hollywood or Worthy where I can, especially in BB.

Ruggs was twice the legal limit in Nevada when he caused the accident that killed Tina Tintor. Would have been interesting to see the toxicology report on Rice after that accident. Of course he walked away and stayed away until it was safe to test him so we will never know. Some posters called it "smart". I'm more in the "cowardly" camp. But either way, the fact that Rice had a million kinds of blind luck that day and nobody was injured shouldn't lessen the punishment he receives from the league. Thank god he was lucky but Roger should drop the hammer on him.

Yup, they get prime viewing windows. But, you know that has nothing to do with Rashee Rice, right?

They made it to the Super Bowl last year and Rice didn't even play four full games. They went 13-3 without Rice and lost the Super Bowl. To say they'll be significantly better is to guarantee a Super Bowl win...or to at least not get shut out through three quarters.

Getting 30 days but with the ability to serve it when Rice wants to over a period of five years is a nice benefit for Rice. Judges often allow working men supporting families to serve minor jail sentences on weekends so their is no disruption of income.

With football players working basically most everyday you would think that the sentence would be served off season. That Rice can wait up to 5 years suggests that he and his lawyers are looking at asking the judge to suspend /vacate the 30 day sentence at the end of those 5 years. That's provided he leads a clean life during that time.

Rice's real punishment for now is going to be all the money he is spending on lawyers, settling the lawsuits and the money he will lose during his suspension. But if Rice left the scene to avoid detection of other criminal activity it greatly increases his odds of further legal problems.

The third-year receiver was recently handed down a five-year probation that included 30 days of jail time he must serve over that span for the role he played in a multi-vehicle crash last season. Before he suffered a torn ACL in Week 4 of last season, Rice was off to a solid start, totaling 24 catches for 288 yards and two touchdowns on 29 targets. Agreed...what is the hold up on the announcement of a suspension? Unless we are getting some negotiations here. Guy can't pay his victims if not working.

But then I’m a FF guy on a FF site who wants FF points from my FF player.

Real world consequences are legit, and I’m glad he’s experiencing those. But I’d stand up as a character reference for Rashee if it meant 0 games.

IMO the NFL might wait a little longer to announce anything....let it get closer to the start of the season......not enough going on right now and the NFL would probably prefer the suspension (whatever it is) not to be the first thing talked about/debated.....waiting could minimize that a little....
