WR Rashod Bateman, BAL (2 Viewers)

Yeah, I'm missing your point I guess.

Did they target Brown because he was running the deep routes or was he their best WR available? I fully understand that Duvernay will see targets, and sure there may be less overall targets here, but every team in the league throws the ball to other recievers than their top guy.

Duvernay has 106 receptions for 978 yards in three seasons - we're not talking about Tyreek Hill joining the team here.
I agree, but I do see Duvernay taking a step forward this year.  Bateman should out target him, but you never know with Jackson.  Andrews may set a TE record this year with targets.  Bateman's role won't change, but let's hope he gets a lot more targets this year.

Even though I'm not excited about the Ravens passing offense (last year was an outlier IMO), I really hope Bateman breaks out this year, because I invested in him in several leagues.  I know Andrews will be the top target and may set a record for TE targets in 2022, but there should be enough for Bateman to be a WR2 or WR3 in dynasty leagues.

So, in dynasty, do you prefer him or Jeudy?

Davis
Godwin
Mooney
JuJu
Bateman
Cooks

Wouldn't you say?
Redraft:

Godwin:  Assuming good health of course.  ACL was late in season

Davis:  My 2022 crush.  Everything lined up for his 3rd year.  Good size and speed.  Top QB.  Beasley and Sanders gone

Cooks

Mooney

Bateman

Juju

There's no way I'd trade Bateman for Jeudy.......regardless of the QB situation.  Jeudy doesn't seem to have a positive attitude based on reports here in Denver.  His hands are also made of stone.  There's a reason Sutton and Patrick were resigned.  Sutton will more than likely be the biggest beneficiary with the Wilson trade.  That's  something pretty well spoken about here in Bronco country.

I believe you are on an island by yourself.

That would be fine if I was, but that just isn't the case.  I've lived in Denver for the past 4 years and listen to both local sports talk stations.   It's very possible Jeudy isn't resigned after the next 2 years.  He has just shown not to be very good.   Sutton put up 1200+ yds with Case Keenum.   Bateman already looks to have stud in his DNA.  I do hate his QB situation, but that doesn't always = to low production.  I don't think Jackson will be the QB in the long term honestly.

I’ll join him on that island. 🤷🏽‍♂️
Actually lots of people are on that island from what I can tell. I honestly have no real take because I have never had any Jeudy shares. By chance really. He is a bit of a blindspot for me.

Anytime there is a lot of negative chatter on a high draft pick I always wonder if the hate is mostly because of the lofty expectations not being met or if there is an actual there there. It is fair to say Wilson will raise all Denver boats at least a bit, but I'm taking Bateman first. I would also probably have to take Sutton first as well.

Same here. I think with Jeudy it might be warranted, but a caveat comes with that. He had a rough time adjusting his first year in the NFL and the second year was cut short very early by a high ankle sprain. That's the kind of thing you hate to see, and holding off on judgment is warranted. That said, I'd rather have Bateman and Sutton than Jeudy, because Bateman's production in college and testing numbers are excellent and very good, respectively, and Sutton has done it in the NFL before.

I would need a fairly substantial piece added to give up Bateman for Jeudy, and I LOVED Jeudy coming out of college.  He's shown little to nothing in two years and the change in QB is going to be a far bigger factor for Sutton and Patrick, who have proven themselves to be NFL-quality WRs.

NFL Sophomores Ready to Ascend to Star Status in 2022

WR Rashod Bateman, Baltimore Ravens

...As a rookie, Bateman finished third on the team with 46 receptions for 515 yards. However, he missed the first five games of the season with an injured groin and didn't quite live up to expectations upon returning to the field.

"I've never felt like more of a complete receiver during that time before I got hurt," he said. "It felt like I let my teammates down, I had let the Ravens organization down. Those guys drafted me and they were expected me to do those things."

Now, he'll be the featured target among the team's wide receivers. Bateman has the speed, versatility and creativity after the catch to be a true No. 1 target. The Ravens offense may feature a unique ground attack, but Jackson was well on his way to setting a new personal record in pass attempts last season if not for an injured ankle.

Late for Work 6/15: Analytics Suggest Rashod Bateman Is Primed for Breakout Season

... here's how Bateman compared with other prominent receivers in their first eight games in terms of catches, yards, touchdowns and snap percentage:

  • Rashod Bateman: 32/404/0/59%
  • DeVonta Smith: 33/421/1/88%
  • D.K. Metcalf: 23/402/4/77%
  • Jaylen Waddle: 48/413/3/83%
  • A.J. Brown: 22/348/3/53%
  • Amon-Ra St. Brown: 27/250/0/66%
... he was putting up those numbers while playing fewer snaps. But when Bateman was ready for a greater snap count, Lamar Jackson was lost for the season," Siegel wrote. "Over the last four games of the year, Bateman's snap percentage increased all the way to 86%, but he no longer had the quarterback with whom those snaps were meant to be played.

Despite being just 68th in the NFL in routes run due to playing only 12 games and fewer snaps, Bateman still managed to wind up 46th in Football Outsiders' DYAR (defense-adjusted yards above replacement), which takes into account the value provided by a player and looks at how many yards they generated over a replacement-level player, before adjusting for the quality of opponent.

"While nothing earth-shattering, that number is still extremely impressive given the context of Bateman's season, and still puts him ahead of players like Diontae Johnson, D.J. Moore, and yes, Marquise Brown," Siegel wrote. "The reason for Bateman's positive advanced metrics is pretty simple — he was really valuable when he played. Perhaps the greatest value a receiver can provide is in being a consistent chain mover and Bateman was just that with a remarkable 29 of his 46 catches going for first downs.

"What's more, Bateman was incredibly efficient, only dropping the ball twice all year while finishing 22nd in catch rate and fifth in contested catch rate according to PlayerProfiler."

On a side note, Bateman was one of 10 veterans on the NFLPA's 2022 Rising Stars List, which identifies top rookies and veterans poised to have breakout seasons, ...

Rashod Bateman Baltimore Ravens

Rashod Bateman caught 2-of-5 targets for 59 yards and a touchdown in the Ravens' Week 1 win against the Jets.

Bateman saved his day with a 55-yard touchdown reception after getting behind the Jets secondary, but otherwise saw a 16 percent target share. The Ravens seemed intent on scheming Bateman early touches -- perhaps a good sign for his long-term fantasy prospects. Being Lamar Jackson's No. 1 receiver will come with some nice statistical days, but the team's lack of passing volume when leading will eventually lead to frustration for fantasy managers who drafted Bateman as a WR2. Bateman will go against Miami in Week 2.

What are redraft owners doing with him after week 1? Try to trade high?Wait and see? the quote from the reply above me is spot on!

I think we're seeing Batemans coming out party this past 2 weeks.
I didn't realize he was THAT fast. They had a good angle on him, too.

Rashod Bateman caught 4-of-7 targets for 108 yards and a touchdown in the Ravens' Week 2 loss to the Dolphins.

For the second consecutive week, Bateman caught a long ball from Lamar Jackson -- this time it was a 75-yard touchdown in which Bateman easily pulled ahead of Miami defenders and cruised for the score in a back-and-forth affair. Bateman was again second in Ravens targets behind Mark Andrews. His lack of target volume could become an issue at some point this season, but with big-play ability in a pass-first Baltimore offense, Bateman could prove efficient enough to be an every-week WR2. Those who drafted him have to be thrilled with his first two weeks of the season.

Rashod Bateman caught 2-of-4 targets for 59 yards in the Ravens' Week 3 win over the Patriots.

After a 4-108-1 performance last week against the Dolphins, Bateman struggled to get anything going in this one. Bateman saw just one target in the first half, but did manage an impressive 34-yard reception on a catch-and-run in which he shook his defender to break loose. Mark Andrews was targeted on 44.8% of Lamar Jackson's pass attempts, leaving little for Bateman on the afternoon. He'll be a solid WR2 next week against the Bills.

He coulda shoulda woulda had another TD.

(FantasyPros) Rashod Bateman caught three of his six targets for 17 yards in a 23-20 loss to the Bills in Week 4. Analysis: Bateman and the rest of the Baltimore passing attack struggled against the Buffalo secondary in the loss. The 17 yards were the fewest Bateman has posted through his first four games. He will be a WR3 in Week 5 against the Bengals.

I was remembering how I held on to Marquise Brown despite the low passing volume in Baltimore. I liked his talent. But now it's Bateman on the Ravens while Brown is tearing it up in Arizona.

Yet, according to KTC, Bateman>Brown. I mean, take that for what it's worth. Maybe that changes after this week.

Either way, I wonder what is the affection with this here guy?

Young receivers get a huge mulligan for their first year. After their second year, it changes. It's an historical thing with dynasty fantasy and receivers that is unique to fantasy. Why the mulligan for the first year? Because they take time to develop and start scoring points later than running backs.

If his year goes like this, his value will drop a whole bunch.

I was sure he was a can't miss after his first two games. Now he's disappeared and worse dropped some key passes. My enthusiasm for him is waning.

He's on both of my redraft teams. This injury is not what Rashod wanted, and certainly hurts me in that respect. I'd signed on because he was the WR! in Baltimore with Brown gone. Now it just appears the second pass catcher on the team (behind Andrews) just isn't going to get the volume they would on other teams. I mean, we knew that, but we always thought Brown's slight build and size were the factors there. Not we know that they might not be. And if Bateman inherited the dropsies from Brown, then it might be we have to look to Lamar as not throwing an accurate enough ball, because Brown had drop problems with him, too.

I've only watched a few of the Ravens games. Any insiders know if Lamar is good at throwing receivers open? Meaning does he throw passes before and anticipate where the receiver is going to break, etc. or does he tend to need to see them open before passing. I find it odd that accounts are that Bateman creates good separation on his routes, yet only is getting targeted 6-7 times per game.

This Ravens "pass" offense is the following options:
1. Throw to Mark Andrews
2. If not open Lamar looks to scramble
3. While scrambling Duvernay happens to get open so Lamar throws it to him
4. Bateman is out there getting paid cardio
