Finally healthy, we’re talking about a 24 y/o former 1st round pick who’s fast, big, thick bodied, and can be a reliable chain mover.

OBJ had 64 targets. 64 targets vacated by OBJ obviously won't flow directly to Bateman. Andrews missed 7 games. He takes a bunch of those. Flowers only had 108 last year. He'll surely see an increase in volume.

The Ravens will still run quite a bit.

Even if he were to get 100 targets, which would be a career high by a lot, Bateman would have to catch 75% of those, which seems ambitious given his career # of 61%.

That is my only concern as well - there was optimism that Monken would be a little more vertical, as has been his MO.

I recently read that LJax had trimmed down 20 lbs - and I also recall in the past that he'd bulked up to better take a pounding as a runner. Perhaps his slimming down indicates they intend to throw more and use Henry more on the ground.

While a potential hit to LJax FF value, it would also increase his longevity, so I wouldn't be shocked by this development. I doubt he stops running, but let's say there's a 20% shift. That would surely mean more targets for all Ravens receivers. Add in injury probability for Andrews, and I can see a world in which Bateman gets 100+ targets.

A lot is TBD. I'm just reading the tea leaves here.

Okay, but who are booms once getting beyond the NE guys and Corley? And I'd argue none of those three are any more like to boom than Bateman. I love this WR class, but I think the booms end with Wilson / Franklin / Burton. I'm highly skeptical the volume trails in this offense, but I don't think it's difficult to envision his fit and how he could beat expectations. He'll be the primary read in the MOF and has demonstrated play making ability both down field and after the catch. Not a bad starting point for ~WR70something.

Good point. But lackluster practice reports will make cutting him easier than "Bateman has been peppered with targets all day every day of practice, and has hauled in the vast majority. This could be the year!"

Not really, no… But I do think he’s still very young, and he should see a significant snap share this year. I feel like if anybody has him, it’s worth holding onto them for a few games to see if the offensive coordinators hype is legit.

I would love nothing more than a Rashod Bateman breakout.

I think Bateman is a great end of bench hold. Finally healthy and securely the starter in the split end role. But in this offense there isn’t room for 3 consistent fantasy pass catchers. Andrews and Flowers have earned Jackson’s trust so he’s going to still look for them the most, when they’re not running the ball a zillion times. I think it would take a Flowers injury/suspension for Bateman to finally breakout, but if Flowers was to miss time I think Bateman would be a hot waiver pickup with an outside chance of leading the team in targets. He’s easy enough to cut if he shows nothing in the first month or so, but I really think if he’s going to show anything, now will be the time.

With Henry in the fold, I suspect we might see a slightly different version of LJax.

I read that he’d dropped weight this year to stay light on his feet. I recall prior to last year he said he’d put on weight to sustain more hits while running.

Their OC gives me reason for optimism that they may go less RPO, but again, this is just me reading the tea leaves. I also remember Monken talking about opening up the vertical game prior to last year.

I know I’m going out on a limb here.

Another thought is that Andrews has a hard time staying on the field. That could also open up targets.

I like Flowers upside, but they’re very different type of receivers. I could see Bateman draw more targets this year. And if Flowers really takes another step, then Bateman is going against softer coverage.

Of course I could easily be wrong about literally everything I just said.

I admire your consistency. I want to say that you'll be rewarded by him eventually but, I can't because it doesn't work that way. I hope for you that it pans out.

Rashod Bateman once again made the play of the day for the Ravens, leaping over two defenders in the end zone for a 15-yard TD.

But Bateman was injured on the play and did not return to take another rep. He stayed on the field, holding the left side of his ribs.
