WR Rashod Bateman, BAL (1 Viewer)

Jamison Hensley
Rashod Bateman once again made the play of the day for the Ravens, leaping over two defenders in the end zone for a 15-yard TD.

But Bateman was injured on the play and did not return to take another rep. He stayed on the field, holding the left side of his ribs.
I shouldn't have laughed at that last part but I did. The moment Bateman gets any positive momentum going, he's stalled by an injury. That's his story it seems.

I don't wish injury on almost anybody (certainly not Bateman) but I do wonder if the Ravens would be better off seeing what they have in Tez Walker, at least as a pure deep threat. Or alternatively, if a Bateman injury could just push them to be a 2-TE team full time.

If he stays healthy this year (big if) he might finally pay dividends.

Kyle Phoenix
Offensive play of the day.

Red zone 11s and Lamar Jackson throws it up for Rashod Bateman in the back corner. Bateman outleaps Jalyn Armour-Davis and Ar’Darius Washington to come down with the touchdown in double coverage.

Roars from the sideline erupted.

Seems to be impressing in camp, wish we could see that clip and hope his rib injury isn’t too serious.

I want to like this guy, good talent, but he is always hurt. Already left camp twice with injuries and it is early August. How does he survive the season?

I’m still leaving a faint light on that the Bateman breakout might still actually happen, but damn if this dude doesn’t get hurt all the time.

Me reading the 1st half: “alright that’s what I’m talking about!”

Me reading the 2nd half: “OH COME ON!”

A free add & one that won't make a switch a difficult decision. Accordingly, he landed on the ball. Right or wrong, no idea, but I dropped Darnell Mooney for him. From an organizational standpoint, it seems like he's in that good money after bad type groove. Pretty solid organization that extended him. Which suggests belief, not just hope.

Stellar catch in the 4th quarter. A couple of targets in the game that were poor throws by Lamar. 80% of Lamar's 41 passes last night were on short to intermediate routes to Hill, Likely/Andrews or Flowers. I don't know if it was the poor offensive line play not giving Lamar time but they seemed one dimensional by not spreading the ball around. It would seem that getting more downfield targets to Bateman would open this offense up more.

Oline seemed to be the issue. If they can get better continuity, it will open the offense up a lot. If that happens, I am not sure how you defend this team,

Bateman just doesn’t impress me and really never has…especially for being a first-round pick…if they could get a legit WR on the other side of Flowers this offense would really be a handful…on the other hand if Flowers goes down they could be in trouble because their WR depth is pretty unimpressive.

He’d impress more if he had more targets.

Monken’s offense is just so weird and disjointed. They bring in Henry & barely use him. They looked the same as they did last year.

LJax seems only capable of scrambling & making 1-2 reads, and generally those are “look for the TE” if Flowers is covered.

On the deep route Bateman was double covered and the target was uncatchable, and when he finally saw a target he made a terrific catch through contact to extend the near game-tying drive.

The problem with Bateman is he’s on the Ravens.

I just don’t see it with Bateman…at all…he looks like a JAG to me...actually JAG may be too harsh but I don't see him as a starting-level NFL WR,

The Ravens offense was pretty much a wildcat offense all night. Snap to the runner, who may dump it off to whoever is open in the intermediate area of the field. Not much there for Bateman to do but run wind sprints. He had a nice catch at the end but otherwise it's hard to see the volume being there to be fantasy relevant. He's at best the fourth receiving option in a run-heavy offense behind Flowers and the two TE's.

It’s clearly a team thing.

Nothing has changed with that offense. It’s build around Lamar scrambling. And while that’s fine, I really wish they’d stop blowing smoke up our behinds and saying how they’re gonna go vertical every offseason.

It also looked like a disjointed mess. At times they played street ball if the 1st read wasn’t there. I’m starting to question if anyone’s actually drawing up plays of if Monken slaps LJax on the butt and says “good luck out there kid, do your thing.”

The only designed plays seemed to be bubble screens to middling effectiveness. Nothing they did set up the threat of the pass, nor did they try to stretch the field - I’d be very concerned if I rostered Flowers, too.

Mind boggling that they went out and got Henry, yet did nothing to establish the run or set up PA. Did they call a single play action pass last night?

Maybe it was just the chiefs, but that offense is messy.

He has some of the best separation metrics of any WR in the NFL. Problem is he does his work on the boundary, where Jackson doesn't like to throw. Put him on the Pats and he's their WR1 right away IMO (though that's more an indictment on the WR room than it is praise for Bateman's abilities).

Probably 5th behind Justice Hill.

I don't see a situation where you can even start him. He could have some nice games here and there, but you would just be chasing points. I've had him in dynasty since his rookie season, but I think I'm out.

If he gets dealt literally anywhere else it’s a huge upgrade.

The oline has limited talent beyond Lindstrom & Staley, if one of those two go down (ahem, Staley) I would try to find the guy in your league who doesn't pay attention to those things and sell, sell, sell.

Those metrics might not hold up if he was given volume. I wouldn't put a lot of stock in that stat (and I like Bateman)

Frankly, I don't know what that even means. "Separation metrics" say what now? I doubt he's generating the IRL separation of guys like Flowers or Rice.

And the Ghost of Jerry Rice's jock strap would be the WR1 in New England.

That's what they said last year

I was hoping for it. Inexplicably they paid him & lied to all of us that they would use him more. Monken’s pants are on fire.

Billy, this is Rashod Bateman. He's a talented former first-round pick who routinely shows up near the top of leaderboards in advanced analysis meant to help measure separation and identify future breakout performances.

The problem is he never actually does anything.

Matt Harmon
That’s the second-leading receiver on the Ravens you’re talking about

Ian Hartitz
That's true. Has more yards than Amon-Ra St. Brown, Drake London, Marvin Harrison Jr. and Chris Olave COMBINED

Welp, if you bought low on him and are playing him you've been rewarded. Chances are you're in dead last if you're doing that, but kudos to you!

I see the reaction True. I'm thinking of my boy that has him in my league that doesn't use him and also HSG, who rosters him everywhere and also doesn't use him.

It's time for wheels up! Or so it looks like it.

Weeks ago, I wanted Khalil Herbert over him because of my RB situation and the possibility of a Khalil trade. Even told my friend after asking for Bateman that he was too light for what I was willing to give up in that particular trade we were making. Requested Herbert.

Whoooopsie.

I always believed in Bateman’s talent and that preseason contract the Ravens gave him based on limited production indicated to me that they believed in him but just wasn’t hitting him on his many open routes.

I started him at flex and am in third place. I was down big going into last night and we award bonus points for long TDs...so it was a what-the-hell spot start. Keeping and optimistic going forward.

Just want you to know that this is all happening because I gave up on him this offseason. Amazing what happens when you throw to your best WR (I said what I said). You'd want more volume but have to make peace with the fact that it isn't happening in this offense, so Aiyuk-lite efficiency is the next best thing. People with Bateman on their fantasy rosters should be happy to have a decent flex, bye-filler option out of him. I still wish he played for a team that passes it more.

I wouldn't expect it to continue, personally. I drafted him as a rookie and finally cut him this offseason. Of course it's possible that he breaks out. I'm not too intrigued at this point though. Won't be trying to pick him up unless one of my guys goes on IR (Godwin?). Otherwise I would have to drop someone like Johnston or Estime, and I'd still prefer them over Bateman.

His receiving floor on 4-5 targets a game is a lot better than receivers who receive 6-10 targets on horrible offenses (Tre Tucker I'm staring right at you)

Godwin on IR indeed, so Bateman may be at the top of my list on waivers after all.
