WR Sammy Watkins, BAL (1 Viewer)

I guess I should get off the "potential stud" concerns with Watkins if I just judge by FBG's latest dynasty WR rankings.

With 3 FBG rankings over the past month, Watkins is sitting way down there at #WR37.

I guess I just need to accept the fact that Watkins is just another WR3/flex option at best and reset my expectations.

sad face....

He does have a great matchup this week

how soon til...

how do I start: Sammy Watkins or Allen Hurns?

Heck, or even: Sammy Watkins or [insert name of any of the 3 random Cards WRs not named Larry Fitz]

ugh.

 At some point you have to wonder if he's really a stud when multiple teams have treated him like a one trick pony.
If those two teams weren't the Bills and Rams, Okay.  Tongue in cheek there a bit but almost any team you can think of has tossed aside a guy that has flourished somewhere else. I just don't think Watkins real world value to the Rams is fantasy friendly since there are no decoy fantasy points. But he IS important to them and they are better because of him.

Just a reminder to all that next year HE gets to pick HIS team for the first time in his career. Things are looking up for the dyno holders.

Just traded Njoku for Sammy on my dynasty squad. I'm pretty good at TE so I figured why not. Maybe he'll land in a great situation next year.

Can't wait til he draws the opposing team's top CB and gets only 2 targets every game.

Yeah, I'm bitter.

Not saying that a similar turn-around will happen this year, but in 2015 after 8 weeks Watkins had 11 receptions for 147 yards.

After that:

911/08 MIAW   8- 168 1 TD--------------

1011/12 @ NYJW   3- 14

1111/23 @ NEL   3-39

1211/29 @ KCL   6-158  2 TD--------------

1312/06 HOUW   3- 109   1 TD--------------

1412/13 @ PHIL   5-81  1 TD----

1512/20 @ WASL   5-111  2 TD--------------

1612/27 DALW   5- 84

1701/03 NYJW   11-136

Buffalo went 5-4 over that span

Sammy Watkins, who has been healthy all year, is tied for 121st in targets (31).

Well I am playing against him this week. I also played against Amari Cooper the week he went off for 210+ yards. So if Watkins is going to blowup it will probably be this week.

The fact that he suffered a concussion the week he exploded on his last catch of the day.
Yes, but he cleared the concussion protocol before the next game and was able to play - so I don't think that qualifies as not being healthy. Plus a lot of players are pulled from games now because of concussion concerns, does not make the injury prone label apply to them, or in this case add to concern or complaints about Watkins not being able to stay healthy.

Clearing the concussion protocol does not necessarily make on healthy... I think he’s been treated like a decoy ever since that hard hit. This week should be interesting.

:tinfoilhat:  There was a huge lawsuit against the NFL in regards to playing players that reinforced the current concussion protocol. To think that any team would play a player who was not fully healthy in regards to this is really stretching logic and reason.

Its midseason, almost all players have dings and things they are playing through right now, but concussions are not one of these things.

Ever received a concussion? Just because the protocol says you’re good to go, doesn’t mean you’re back to yourself.

Are we thinking he is the 4th or 5th option for Goff going into week 11?  Kind of a toss up for me with Higbee.
Kupp is getting more targets but I don't know why- he's really inefficient. I've started Watkins the last 2 weeks and have gotten lucky. I would prefer to not have to play him again though.

Goff doesn't focus on one receiver. Here are reception totals at Cal:

2015:

  1. Lawler 52
  2. Powe 47
  3. Treggs 45
  4. Anderson 41
  5. Davis 40
  6. Harris 40
2014:

  1. Lawler 54
  2. Harper 52
  3. Treggs 52
  4. Anderson 46
  5. Lasco 33
Right now on the Rams it's 39/35/32/21/17, which seems right in line with the reception distribution. Watkins is currently on the low end of that distribution (21); he could climb up a bit, but don't expect him to be looking at 80+ receptions with Goff throwing him the ball and all those other options on the team.

A play that stands out for me from this game (before I fell asleep at half time  :P ) was Watkins working a route over the middle then Goff avoids the pass rush and is rolling to his right. He wants Watkins to break his route deep and separate from the defender, he is looking at Watkins the whole way.

Watkins gets his foot caught with the turf monster and although he doesn't lose his feet, it hurts his foot and Watkins just gives up on the play Literally he just stops running his route as his QB is buying time for him to get open.

The play really pissed me off and if Watkins keeps loafing like that I can totally understand why Goff would look for other receivers who are at least trying to make a play.

If Watkins is hurt then get the hell off the field.

Yeah leave a young, talent laden, up and coming winning team.  He totally needs to do that.
Exactly, if he's smart he's staying put.

A while ago I told myself to not get tapped into the hype when a receiver signs with a new team. I don't have the stats to prove it, but it sure seems like it usually takes a year to work. Sure there are exceptions (Robert woods is having a career year, as is kearse and Garcon looked good) but many disappoint (cooks, Watkins, Jeffery, pryor, desean, Marshall, Britt. .)

Sometimes it takes a while to build chemistry. Then you get guys like Torry Smith who never really recover.

3/36 today.  I guess the Rams didn't need a big play from him today either.  How's they do?

Why again, did this team trade for Watkins?  Just to let him rot?

I don't think another WR in the NFL has had a more brutal schedule this year in terms of CB matchups than Watkins.  The only bad pairing left this year is in Week 13 against Peterson in Arizona.  Outside of that game, I think he'll give you WR3 numbers as a floor the rest of the way.

He's a better IRL asset than fantasy asset unfortunately. Hopefully that will change as the season wears on.
I'm not sure I buy this. Maybe for the Rams specifically at this po in in time, but we all saw what he did when he played in Buffalo. I just didn't realize it would be this difficult to find a coaching staff with some common sense and ability to concoct some plays for a specific player. I guess the lack of that coaching ability throughout the league today is why Belichick will probably end up with at least a 6th ring.

He's basically a poor man's Desean Jackson right now. Sammy will be lucky to break 100 targets this season which is crazy.

The coaching for the NFL's top scoring offense going into this week is to blame for Sammy being bust now?  The coaching that has helped Goff take this HUGE leap?

The coaching where a rookie and Woods are producing?

Not at all. You need targets in order to produce fantasy points. All we can hope is that Goff and Sammy work on their rapport going forward and Sammy gets more opportunities.

Yep - week 12 year 4 is a good time to start thinking about building a rapport.

I don't pay attention to troll comments  :D
Regarding the rapport.

The rookie has it.  The other Bills' draft pick has it.

It was your comment (excuse).  When put in context, I agree - it sounds like trolling.
