I claimed him in the 1st waiver run this week & hope for good things down the stretch. I do have a suspicion that the Bengals D will gel a little more. I thought that they were an improving unit, and they have underachieved to date (and against not amazing competition at times so...).

I also believe it’s a good buy-low window on Mixon. At some point some of these shots they take will result in DPI/1st & goal situations.  That should lead to some cheap TDs. And if as mentioned the D comes together a little more, they should be in positive game scripts. 

that said, AJG looks slow and very coverable these days. The games I’ve seen, he’s been abused by opposing DBs and can’t get separation. This leaves the door wide open for Boyd & Higgins to dominate catches. We may be witnessing the end of AJG as a dominant player in real time.

Over Gage, maybe not over Cooks.

reasoning is that Cooks is a clear WR2 for a team that’s had a brutal 3-game stretch to open the season. There can be no doubt  after 3 games that KC has an underrated defense, especially in the secondary. HOU came out and had KC, BAL & PIT on the schedule. 

Gage is worth rostering, and I have him pretty close to Higgins. They each need something to happen for them to be worthy of your WR3. Right now they’re both more sort of a PPR dart-throw flex option.

IF AJG continues to regress or gets hurt, Higgins goes boom. 
IF Julio or Ridley miss time, Gage has good upside as well. 

So while Cooks is probably a good buy-low candidate with the HOU schedule opening up, i have Higgins and Gage about even. I give a slight edge to Higgins because AJG has looked slow and ineffective already, while Julio & Ridley are both dominant, if healthy.

Appreciate the insight Sauce! Love your posts over the years. I agree with you on Cooks...and with you on Gage & Higgins being close. I agree that Higgins is more of a BOOM candidate than Gage - even though Gage has been effective in the 2 games he was healthy.

No problem. I enjoy evaluating them as I had the same choice and opted for Higgins. 

Diving in a little deeper...both Julio & Ridley are a little banged up. So that probably = AJG being less effective. Just as Ridley/Julio can get healthy, so too could AJG get back to form. With no preseason it’s hard to put a fork in the guy just yet - he could just be getting back to speed, but he’s looked pretty washed to me 

neither team had a good defense, but Cinci’s secondary is seemingly a bit better. They can cover but they can’t tackle for crap. 

Atlanta tries to run their offense off play action, so they seemingly run more than CIN (I’d have to look at this year’s numbers to see if I’m right or if that’s just in the games i’ve seen)  - what this means to me is that there could be games ATL wins on the ground against lesser opposing offenses.

Cinci seems to have a tougher schedule in their division with games against Baltimore & Pittsburgh. ATL gets the Bucs & Saints, and the Saints have been beatable defensively this year.

So factoring everything in they’re probably equal. I still give a slight edge to Higgins, but when Cinci plays the divisional games Gage could be the better option, if Atlanta gets into a shootout on a given Sunday. It seems like Cinci wants to come out slinging the ball around though where Atlanta is sometimes forced to do that. It’s hard to imagine Gage being useful in games Atlanta isn’t throwing 45+ attempts. I can easily see Higgins having a couple of 5 targets, 3 Rec, 30 yards  / 1 games even if Cincinnati is playing in a low scoring affair.

Higgins looks so comfortable and smooth out there for a rookie.    Pretty cool to see a new 9 to 85 connection.    Here’s hoping they can significantly eclipse what the previous two accomplished.

How can he be 2nd if two other guys are ahead of him?

That would be 3rd no?

I am not nearly so bullish about him. He is my 7th rookie WR from the 2020 class and while AJ Green not looking like his former self is a bonus it doesn't really change that for me.

Preston has started 3 games for the Phins and has 5 catches, not knocking the guy but he is clearly down the list behind Parker and Gesicki and I've highlighted in a couple threads that Miami OL is not set up yet to hold the DEs back because they are not very good at OT vs interior part of the OLine...get it? If Fitz had 3-4 seconds to drop back and step into the throw then Williams would be a decent option but I don't see that happening right now. 

Tee Higgins has 15 targets the last 2 weeks and scored 2 Touchdowns last week and played for a big time college in Clemson and has played on a National Stage for a while so this is nothing new for him. He is quickly making AJ Green a thing of the past and he has a quality rookie QB that is getting better every week. This week they face the Jags and Miami would have passed more but they were ahead 28-7 early 3rd. 

Dilemma, really?

Well, you leave out that Miami faces the worst passing defense in the league, but we all know Wilson can score; so it should be a shoot out. This means more potential opportunity for Williams

Higgins is playing Jacksonville which, for the most part, doesn’t have an offense that makes me think shoot out. This means a potential lower opportunity for Higgins

FTR I am playing neither this week. Going to play Mixon as he seems to be active

Tee Higgins caught 4-of-7 targets for 77 yards in Week 4 against the Jaguars.

Higgins stayed involved coming off a breakout two-score game in Week 3. He saw more targets than A.J. Green, though Green missed time in the second half with an injury. The Bengals think highly enough of Higgins that they made John Ross a healthy scratch the last two weeks. Higgins is starting to emerge as the Bengals' top red-zone threat with C.J. Uzomah out for the year.

Liked what I saw in terms of what he can do and how cooked AJ looks

The schedule gets a lot harder now but if they can somehow protect Burrow like they did today, could be good with the negative game scripts

 
7 Targets after he gobbled up 15 over the previous two weeks so he was right on point, managed to haul in 4 for 77 yards for a much higher ypc than the previous week. He had a target in the end zone. He also rushed for 13 yards. 

But the bigger news might be AJGreen who managed a paltry 1 catch for 3 yards on 5 targets, that is just not good. He looks to be getting worse.

It would seem like great days ahead and Boyd is perfect to take some fo the heat off of him as he feels his way around the NFL. 

Schedule is going to start getting much harder like next week when they face the Ravens but they have Burrow. All of this is predicated that they can keep him upright.

He had two balls that a wr with his skill-set can come down with.  One of them could’ve been a long touchdown.   It was another promising outing that could’ve looked even better.   As he further acclimates himself, he should catch these types of balls like so many of his college highlights showcase.    I’m very encouraged. 

 
There aren’t many WRs I’d trade him straight up for. That’s how bright I see his future to be. Lamb is probably the only one.

Agree 100% here. I really thought this was the make or break game with Green, he's been healthy a month now, he has a nice matchup, and he very much took a backseat. 

This is looking like it might be the best year since 2014 when it comes to rookie WR's, and Higgins is near the top, with potential to climb, if/when he leaves Green fully in the dust. Very impressed so far.

 
Tee Higgins caught 4-of-8 targets for 62 yards in the Bengals' Week 5 loss to the Ravens. 

Frankly, this was a good outcome on an afternoon where Joe Burrow was running for his life. Higgins has now drawn at least six targets in four straight games and caught at least four passes in three straight. He is averaging 70 yards over his past two games, while A.J. Green (hamstring) is once again on the shelf. Even in a tough Week 6 matchup with the Colts, Higgins will have some desperation WR3 appeal.

Yeah he is the #1 WR in Cinci. My starting 3 WRs in redraft on a team are Jefferson, Claypool and Higgins. They are eating.

Higgins was passed the torch as Cincinnati's downfield threat on Sunday, hauling in a 67-yard bomb from Joe Burrow to help setup Joe Mixon (18/54/1) for his only touchdown of the afternoon. The rookie also recorded a 20-yard catch in the fourth quarter to inevitably finish with season-highs in catches and receiving yards opposite Xavier Rhodes. Higgins was slowly morphing into the Bengals' No. 2 threat behind Tyler Boyd (5/54), but it's possible the former doesn't stop there and continues surging with progressively increasing rapport from Burrow. Higgins will remain a high-floor WR3 in Week 7 against the Browns.

Tee Higgins played more offensive snaps than any Bengals wide receiver in Week 6 against the Colts. 

The rookie caught 6-of-8 targets for a season-high 125 yards against a stout Colts secondary, including a 67-yard catch that set up an early Joe Mixon touchdown. It's been clear for some time that Higgins had passed A.J. Green in the Bengals' pass catching pecking order; we might see Higgins emerge as the team's No. 1 wideout in the coming weeks if he continues to command high-value targets. It'll be hard to bench Higgins in 12-team leagues this week against the Browns.

I know Claypool, Lamb, and Jefferson have all had bigger games, but I'm not sure Higgins isn't the best rookie WR going forward. He wins at every level, and is tied to Burrow long term, and an offense that will almost always have 40+ attempts every week.

Higgins has passed Green, and I think he's in the process(if he hasn't already) passed Boyd as well.

Higgins is better than those two because of the offense he's in. I doubt you could get him for less than a lower first plus extra. If I'm wrong, I'm going to try to!

I drafted him 1.13. So a late first plus a player/pick seems like light ROI on a guy who is in the best situation of any of these rookie WRs outside maybe Jefferson. You'd pretty much have to trade a young RB in a player-for-player swap IMO. 

As a non-college fan, I was puzzled at the time that Higgins had such amazing highlights (they all do I know) and landed in a perfect situation with the #1 pick QB, and yet he was an early second tag. Made no sense then and makes less sense now.

I did say it would take at least that. I'm looking at a roster where the guy who's in the thick of it just lost Sanders for a couple weeks. I'm considering a James Robinson for Higgins swap and I doubt he'd take it. But then again, Zealots players are skinflint traders.

much like Hopkins, whose combine numbers kinda smelled (same school, same competition).... only thing hopkins really was different from higgins at the combine was 5" more vert (significant), but hopkins isnt out there catching jump balls very often, is he?

thing is, you turn on the tape w higgins and you're looking at a top 3 wr. 

i really gotta stop letting combine numbers sway me, but it's hard.

Just substantially higher upside with Higgins in that offense.

Given he's already the best WR there IMO (w/o an offseason), looks like he's played with Burrow for years, and done in a span of weeks of regular season play at 21 years old, it'd take a very high 1st just for me to consider dealing him. I'm certain you'll be able to get Brown/Chark for less (isn't to discount either of them because I'd like to own either). Right or wrong, one's paying for Higgins upside with Burrow against the other 2 in their situations (which for Chark could change next season).

I'm starting him this week.  He has demonstrated enough consistency that I think he is reliable start now as WR3.
