WR Terry McLaurin, WAS (2 Viewers)

Adam Peters is a savvy GM. He’ll make Terry happy and get him in camp, and not put WAS in a position where they’re handcuffed to an aging vet with diminishing skills.

McLaurin is the kinda guy you pay top $. His performance on poorly coached teams with low quality QBs has been phenomenal.

2nd year with Jayden, shoring up the Oline, adding a run game AND Deebo? This Offense will be even more prolific than last year.

FF value to the moon! 🚀

This team has big playoff hopes. He will get paid.
I'd rather seem him paid sooner rather than later. With Daniels still developing and Samuel on the team it would be better to get more reps with them before the season. Washington usually starts seasons slowly.

But most of all I want him to get paid. Nobody's been as much of a rock on this team as McLauren and Jonathan Allen, and he's gone now.
They have to build around Daniels. The team would be stupid not to pay Terry. Nothing like upsetting your star QB in year two.

Posted in the Washington thread, but McLaurin is going to be 30 this season. It might make more sense to let him walk and go after Jameson Williams for less money, than to pay McLaurin $30M for his 31-34 year old seasons. A guy like Williams could spend the next 7-8 years with Daniels.
I live in Detroit and Jamo is not Terry in my opinion. But what you say does make some sense. I still think he gets paid.
WAS is going all in this year. Whether that is the right move or not maybe another thread, but it sure looks like it. They WILL need Terry on the field this year, Deebo can't be their #1.

What is Hell No Alex?

I never see any trades involving this guy. Is he a player no one is interested in having, or does his owners think more of him than consensus?

From a dynasty perspective he is at the age where he is probably more valuable to hold than trade would be my only guess.
I've never had a share of him and I'm surely not looking to obtain any right now. Perhaps it's just a mental block on my part.

I am frustrated by Terry, not by management. Terry has a year left on his contract. If he had underplayed it, would he be offering a new long term contract to the team for less per year? The team is under no obligation to do a new deal. Nor should they IMO. Let him play out the year, and maybe he earns even more in his next deal. And maybe you pay him then. But a contract is a contract IMO.

Terry may not be a diva in the sense of many WRs. But he is using the opportunity of a team that was headed 100% in the right direction to cause chaos, and destroy cohesion. And he and his agent know they are doing that. They are using the chance to force Peters to make a deal, also knowin there is cap space for it. As a GM, I would not like that. So much that I'd simply say no deal right now. He can either show or not. Terry also held out last contract, so he's no saint. Does he really love WAS so much? Apparently not. If he could go to another team for $1m/per more, he'd be there.

I'd already have him on the trading block. QBs and OCs are what make offenses tick. You can put a lot of guys out there that can get open, run, and block. Knowing WAS has to pay JD5 probably $60M + per in 3 years ... no way I'm letting a WR eat up cap space that would hinder that contract.

That being said I expect it to get done. Hopefully they keep it shorter term though.

I don’t blame him one bit. He is at the age where if he suffers a major injury, he probably never has another chance at a good payday. Give the guy a three year extension that’s front loaded and have a chance to move on when Daniels is up for contract. Seems like a simple strategy to me.

OK. great for Terry. He doesn't hold up to what he already agreed to do for a certain amount. The team now takes all the risk when they didn't even have to. Pass. Too much for his ranking. He's just trying to get guaranteed $s sine it ran out on his last contract. Well, $2.5M left. You know we are the ones that pay all these players. The owners might write the check, but we pay through it through the advertisers and TV networks by paying more for their product as the numbers inflate. Easy to say just do it when it's OPM.

Granted I'm a huge Washington homer, so people will take my opinion with a grain of salt, but I think he's always undervalued. He literally had the worst QB play for his entire career in DC until last year...and when he finally had a legit QB...BOOM. I don't think the TDs are a fluke, he almost never drops the ball, and he has had one of the best contested catch rates in the entire NFL. Daniels will continue to improve, the line was greatly improved, and I think Deebo running intermediate routes only opens up things more for Terry. Last year he was 8th in scoring in my PPR leagues, and while I could see London passing him this year (London finished 10th last year) I still see a top 10 finish for him. And as far as trades, I traded for Terry last week in a PPR SF Best Ball Dynasty League, giving up Jayden Higgins and Ray Davis for Terry and a throw in. If this doesn't win me homer of the year I don't know what would, I own Terry in 13 of my 15 dynasty leagues. Choo Mother Truckin Choo!!! :drive:

You could think this is the Bradon Aiyuk thread from last year, the Juaun Jennings one from this year.

Fan: PLAYER SHOULD HONOR THE CONTRACT

What we know as reality: Unless there is guaranteed money, and even if there is, the owners don't honor contracts like this.

Tomorrow: Aww man my favorite team's player should honor the contract he signed

Just not a good time to buy either. I get it, he finally has a good QB. He also saw a nearly 300% increase in TDs last year over the previous 4. I don't care if it's a Montana clone under center, people not expecting some regression there are due to be disappointed. And outside those TDs, his numbers last year, even with Washingtons new savior under center, were relatively the same they've always been. Every owner is going to project increases across the board. That's fair when he's staying on your roster. I'd imagine every owner trying to sell is also trying to bake that into his price. I don't think any smart owners are going to pay that premium. Especially not on a 30 year old WR who is now publically saying he won't step on the field without a new contract.

He's not a moveable asset right now unless being sold for close to the low end WR2 price that corresponds to the numbers he's put up his whole career outside last year when he tripled his TDs, and baking in his age and current off the field noise. I haven't seen him moved for any more than that in any of my current leagues. He was taken as WR31 in a recent dynasty start up I did. He was taken as WR19 and WR22 in two redrafts I've done this month. And WR19 felt high to me with JSN and Mike Evans still on the board (so was MHJ but I might lean Terry over him for next season).

If he had underplayed his contract the team would just cut him. Unfortunately, Terry doesn’t have the same option.

LOL how do i downvote this trash post?

We don't have downvotes here. And please don't call other posters post "trash". If you disagree, do it and be cool and state your opinion for what you think will happen.
no **** you dont have downvotes. it was a joke. well, my opinion is that it was a trash post.

Scary has had to put up with terrible QB play for his entire career on one of the most poorly run organizations in the NFL, and carried the team on his back every season. He would more than likely be putting up last seasons numbers, if not better, every year had there been better QB play and a non-rookie throwing to him. He deserves every penny he's demanding and asking for. Also, asking for an extension (both times) shows he's committed to the team and wants to be here long term otherwise he would have been demanding a trade, and afaik, he hasn't done that yet. But he 100% should be extended and paid, especially with JD on a rookie contract, so they can continue to build on their relationship and JDs growth as a franchise QB for the rest of scary's career.

“A contract is a contract” - do you say this when teams cut players all the time before their deal is over?

The NFLPA agreed to a split on the revenue between players and owners. If they didn’t get half or whatever the exact percentage is, the owners would just get richer. It’s wild to see someone knowledgeable about the salary cap siding with the owner side

[/QUOTE]

Teams need to spend a % of the cap every year. With void years and other contract structuring some teams are paying their players 200% of the salary cap it's just that the money is spread out over several seasons.

Washington has the money to pay Terry. It's not going to cause problems when they extend Daniels Terry will likely be in voidable non garunteed years by then.

He is the best WR they have and not really replaceable.

Definitely one of the players I wish had found a more fruitful landing spot just to see what he could have done. What if he got traded to Philly instead of AJ Brown? What if the Chiefs took him instead of Mecole Hartman?

Its that frustrating time of year having to deal with a plethora of "play A would be a great trade to team B" reports surfacing from the ether.

As a Pats fan, I'd love it if scary Terry came to NE, but the disposition of TJ Watt reveals a clue of what will happen here (Terry gets paid by WAS).

Washington has had countless players like that, whose talents Washington wasted over the years.

These days I think of it more as "Playing with Jayden Daniels for Dan Quinn and Adam Peters is a damn fine place for McLaurin to keep producing over and over again".

He'll get paid IMO, this is just negotiations for how much. He's in the last year of his deal, turning 30 and he stuck with a previously massively incompetent organization through the tough times and less than backup level QB’s. For leverage he’s the best WR on a team bursting with cap space, in the hunt for a long playoff run and not a lot of other great pass catching options (yeah there’s Deebo but he can never stay healthy anymore.) No reason both sides can’t agree that he should get paid at this point.

Wash could give him another 3 year extension that is front loaded and by the time it's Daniels turn to get his QB contract Terry will be fading out both skills wise and contract #'s wise.
