WR Tyler Lockett, TEN (7 Viewers)

Tyler Lockett caught 10-of-12 targets for 79 yards in the Seahawks' Week 2 win over the Steelers.

After seeing just two targets Week 1, Russell Wilson was peppering Lockett with a team-high dozen looks. Unfortunately, Lockett was unable to shake tackle attempts and kept getting dropped almost immediately after the catch. Then Will Dissly caught a pair of red-zone touchdowns before DK Metcalf caught Wilson's third score from 28 yards away. Lockett owners need to keep riding the wave into Week 3 in a home date with the Saints where Lockett will be a WR2.

Like I said, this was a blowup spot since Pittsburgh sucks covering the slot. Just couldn't shake loose.

19% of the season has been played and he's got 39% of last year's targets, 20% of last year's TDs, and 29% of last year's yardage. 

He would only need 5.5 targets per game for the last 13 games to reach 100 targets. Currently on pace for 149. 

Wilson is on pace for 560 attempts. Lockett is currently the target of 27% of his passes.

Lockett had a fifth touch, an ill-advised pitch from Russell Wilson that went down as a -8 yard rush. Embarrassingly, Lockett's four targets were tied for the team lead. What kind of game plan calls for only four Tyler Lockett targets? Either way, one of Lockett's looks resulted in one of the best touchdowns you will ever see. Lockett caught the tightest-of-window passes in the back corner of the end zone before displaying impeccable footwork to stay in bounds. It's worth searching out the highlight. Lockett is so far maintaining his ridiculous 2018 efficiency, catching 30-of-36 looks. Despite his frustrating usage, Lockett will maintain low-end WR1 appeal for Week 6 against the Browns, particularly if Greedy Williams and Denzel Ward remain sidelined.

Yeah, I have to agree that his inconsistent usage is frustrating but, man his efficiency over the last 21 games is remarkable. Can you imagine if he was a consistent 9-10 target/game WR?

I totally understand wanting to be a run focused team. And I get being equally focused in developing a diverse passing game. But, man it seems like the Seahawks are wasting a special talent.

It’s unfortunately a run-first team.

The good news is the passing game is really all Lockett and he still puts up solid performances - fantasy and NFL-wise - regardless of the fewer targets compared to other pure #1WRs.

He is that much better in leagues that reward return yards.

 
Seriously, How many players in the game today, or even historically, make that TD grab? All props to Wilson because I think it's an equally low percentage that can place a ball so amazingly well, but what? 5% of WRs make that catch? 7%? 3%! 

Okay, I have no idea but no one will ever convince me that I'm not in the true ballpark.

Dude is a legit player, the Seahawks need to make him the focus of their passing game.

Four targets tonight. Four! FOUR!!!!

I am one of Pete Carroll's biggest supporters (Fight On!) but he is criminally underusing Lockett.

 
Strange how the targets vary so much from game to game as it doesn’t really seem to be game flow dependant. Seahawks were behind plenty yesterday. All we can do is hope that efficiency remains excellent in the weeks where he gets scant targets, but you can’t help but think there will be weeks where he can’t maintain that and puts up sub 5 fantasy points ( standard ). Just need to hope it’s not in playoff weeks where it can kill you.

Russell is playing extremely well and that play was incredible by both Russell and Lockett.   But, I don't understand why Lockett isn't targeted much more.

@Chaka - you were completely in the ballpark:

Lucky Lockett? Seahawks TD had only a 6.3% chance of completion

It's hard to get a lot of targets when Wilson only throws the ball 23 times like he did last night.

That said, Lockett's low targets may be attributable to defenses increasingly keying on him. Unfortunately, Lockett is not a big dude like Metcalf where Wilson can just throw it Lockett's way and have him outjump/muscle it from the defender. Lockett's edge is great separation, but when it's not there, Wilson is smart enough not to force feed it and go elsewhere. And he's fortunate to have good secondary options in Dissly and Metcalf.

 
2019 lockett is a near copy of 2018 lockett production wise... he just produces on limited targets/touches. best not to otherthink it, just roll him out there and generally get good results

 
Now that I'm thinking about it, there were at least 4 or more plays where Lockett came out of his split right position and ran a fake jet sweep, where he was running about 4 yards behind the shotgun snap. Late in the game, Russell called that play again and finally used Lockett in an option flip, where Lockett was stuffed behind the LOS.

I have no idea what the Hawks were doing on these plays -- Lockett looked way too deep behind LOS for a credible jet sweep, and the option clearly doesn't work in the NFL, more so against a team like the Rams who were getting penetration all night.

Misuse of Lockett - just line the damned guy up wide and let him use his speed and skill to get open and catch balls.

 
Last year, Lockett averaged only 4.4 targets per game, with a high of 7 in week 2.  You have to love his usage in weeks 2 & 3, but to expect a consistent target amount in this offense is wrong.  He was WR9 entering week 5, and if you have him, you have to start him every week.  SEA needs to find another guy to return kicks and punts.  If he goes down on a return, Carroll should get beheaded.

Obviously he's been out the last couple games, but I would think Penny would be a great alternative as a KR. He did it very successfully in college, and it gets him on the field. I don't know who you'd have do punts? Prosise maybe?

I say this about every top WR used on KR/PR. 

I should like it for Lockett since in my IDP we get .1/3 KR/PR, but it’s just so risky in the big picture. 

But again; this is the dude who huddled up with his OC & decided to run a fake QB keeper toss sweep to a WR on 3rd & 3 trying to ice the game, when Carson just had runs of 8, 3 & 7 yards. So expecting sound reasoning might be a stretch.

He is criminally underusing Wilson. The two go hand in hand. 

 
35 receptions now on 41 targets - just insane efficiency/chemistry with Wilson after most of us expected regression from last year’s insane pace.

Dude hasn't been targeted on an incomplete pass in almost a month now.  Just insane.

He has Antonio Brown upside if Seattle is ever forced to throw the ball more.

I expected a regression in efficiency but I also expected a larger jump in targets as well.  4.3 to 6.8 is nice but I was expecting 8+ by this point. In four of his six games he has 15 total targets.  He is an every week starter for me no matter but that is still worrisome.

Ya what has changed since that first game with all the targets?  Dissly's emergence?  Maybe his injury will put Lockett back into some higher numbers.

I think it's purely game plan/flow dependent.  Either way he is way, way, waaaaaay too efficient to ever consider benching.

Agreed.   The lack of targets are disappointing but I can't sit one of the main targets of Wilson since Wilson is playing at an extremely high level.   

 
It's crazy since that type of game you expect Seattle to have to throw more since they got down by much. For him to only get 5/75 that could've been 5/76/1 is disappointing.

I know I am biased but was there really clear evidence that he didn't break the plane on that non-TD?  I thought it should have stood.

Wow that looks like a very clear TD to me.  It looks like there was an optical illusion from the shadow that made it look like his knee was on the ground when it was really way off the ground.  Was there another angle that showed it down there?

Looks like a TD.   But, this missed call is way down on the list of bad calls in that game and the games this past weekend.   Not sure officials are looking at during many reviews.    This isn't that tough to get right.

So you think that is clear visual evidence to overturn the call on the field?

I may have or may have not agreed with you until the league apparently created a separate standard for PI reviews.

Beyond that BS new standard, which apparently defaults to whatever is called in the field stands, I simply saw nothing that clearly demonstrated one way or another that he Lockett was down before crossing the goal line. Call on the field should have stood.

Tyler finished as WR17 with only 70 targets.  His career catch % is 70.3%.  Career YPC is 14.3.  His targets over his 4 yrs with Wilson have been very consistent (69, 66, 71, 70).  TD's have been all over the place (6, 1, 2, 10).  He has played second fiddle to Doug Baldwin his entire 4-yr career.  Baldwin's targets during the last 4 have been 103, 125, 116, 73.  We also can't forget Jimmy Graham, who was targeted 74, 95, and 96 times from 2015 thru 2017, putting him as third fiddle.  Exit Baldwin and enter a handful of young WR's and a few JAG's.  Now Lockett is the clear-cut WR1 for SEA, and it's not even close.  Baldwin was on pace for 90+ targets in 2018, even with his hampering injury (had 73, but missed 3 games, and was limited in others).  For those that say Lockett can't command 100 targets in 2019, I say poppycock!

He's had crazy stat lines to get to this point, and would like to see more consistent targets, but his efficiency is off the charts.  13 targets in the last 3 games?  Come on SEA!

I assure you the only stat Seattle cares about over the last three games is 3-0.

Tyler Lockett caught 5-of-7 targets for 61 yards and one touchdown in the Seahawks' Week 7 loss to the Ravens.

Lockett had 3-53-1 at halftime with an eight-yard touchdown as the Seahawks' lone end-zone trip of the day and then disappeared after the break. Extremely frustrating to own in fantasy, Lockett still entered Week 7 as a top-12 fantasy wideout. Lockett has 50 yards and/or one touchdown in every game played this season but targets have been sporadic. Lockett should feast against the Falcons next week.

I guess frustrating in the sense that every game you feel like he could have had more. He really does make the most of what he gets, but they ignore him for large stretches of most games. He's never treated like a WR1.

He could get more but he doesn't and that isn't going to change.

It should be encouraging. He was drafted as a WR2 and he probably had the most upside of any of his peers. The big games will come.
