xbox one vs ps4 (1 Viewer)

Will there be a Minecraft for the Xbox? My kids are addicted to it. I'm pretty sure that MS won't let Sony put it on the PS. It currently isn't made for the Wii.
Yes. And it will also be available for Playstation 4 at some point. And Microsoft doesn't own the Minecraft IP.

I've just read this past page of the thread so sorry if this has been covered, but is there any chance of me getting a ps4 before christmas without having it preordered?
Pre-orders have opened back up off and on. I imagine availability will be the same. You've just got to be ready to pounce.
I had a PS4 on preorder with Amazon and canceled once MSFT said the kinect was not necessary. I was too late to get a day one X1 at amazon but i put it on preorder anyway with a ship date of late December. Last night I got an email saying my order has been pushed to a Day One version of the X1 and I will have it on the 22nd.

Gamestop is doing their "90% extra" hardware trade-in credit for the XBO this Sunday only. I have a PS3 that I'm considering trading in. Did anyone do this last Sunday for the PS4? Any idea how much I'll get for a 2007-era PS3?

Update: I called my local Gamestop and the guy gave me a rough estimate of $95 for my PS3 with the 90% bonus credit. He also said that if I'm not already on the preorder list for an XBO, I can get a console on Day 1 if I buy a 4-game bundle pack with it (he didn't know the games in the bundle yet) or I would have to wait 1-3 weeks if I wanted to just get the system by itself.

I honestly don't know if there are 4 launch titles worthy buying right now. And I definitely know that I don't have time to play more than 1 or 2 games at the moment. Still, I'm a sucker and am contemplating it. Hmmm... Forza, Battlefield 4, NBA2k14, Dead Rising 3?

never buy A system when it launches. The games aren't there yet.
True but 1) these aren't going down in price any time soon, so if I know I'm going to buy one in the next year or two I might as well buy now and 2) I'm not throwing my PS3 away and 3) 64 player Battlefield on consoles.

I thought kinect was bundled with xbox one? Do they now offer a cheaper unit with out kinect?

No, they just announced you don't have to have it plugged in the entire time. Not clear what all it will be required for.

For what it is worth I'll be getting BF4, Assassin's Creed 4, and Crimson Dragon the first day (I believe CD is download only).

I wonder what I could get if I traded in a PS3 and 360 w/Kinect? I'm interested in an XBOne, but not really worried about getting one right away. But if I could get it for cheaper, then it makes more sense.

I think your local store will tell you if you give them a call and ask.

Will definitely do that. I guess I shouldn't have high expectations though if the other guy was only getting $95 for his PS3. Mine is a newer one, from 2009 so maybe that helps a smidge.

only $95? I thought $95 sounded like a lot.

When I traded my original 60GB PS3 in, they had a 50% bonus bump and it ended up being something like $125, before their stupid $xx "refurbishing fee" or what ever it cost/was called.

I guess that is about right. You can get a new one now for what $200? So I guess that makes sense.

Some reports today of PS4 issues here and there. Bad HDMI ports as well as bricked consoles. GAF and Reddit have some threads going. Here's one:

This could be concerning, but no hardware has 100% success rate. IF this turns out to be like the RROD then its a big deal. The HDMI port is just one of those things that happen IMHO, but bricked consoles are never good.

Holy crap, anyone with GI (or without) read the article about the new LOTR game?? Looks awesome. Really great example of how the next-gen systems and their increased power can utilize never before seen AI and such to make gaming better, outside of just graphical improvements.

Also, someone up-thread mentioned getting Dead Rising 3 in a 4-game launch bundle, I just wanted to save you some heartbreak and point out that Dead Rising 3 isn't a launch title, unless I'm totally mistaken.

So East Coast Bias has offered to let me have his PS4 pre-order but neither of us wants to risk getting jacked. Is there a way to transfer an Amazon pre-order that is 100% risk free for both people?

And, evidently, PS4s wobble. Did they forget to put little rubber feet on these things? That's a real WTF from Sony, there.

Thanks guys, guess I was totally mistaken! That makes things more interesting...Anyone else excited about messing around with Project Spark? Is that an X1 exclusive? Looks pretty damn cool, to me, although I'm still not clear exactly what it is.

Yeah Spark is exclusive. You can youtube a whole bunch of videos of guys building entire levels of games from scratch. Tower shooters, side scrolling platformers, etc. I'm not that creative (my kids may be) and will probably just download games other people make.

But they don't fall down!

so question.... i hook my cable box up through xbox.

this enables me to do the snap...

will it interfere with my cables bi directional signal for on demand programming

I think my most anticipated games so far are (in no particular order and regardless of release date):

Dragon Age: Inquisition -- multi-platform

Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor -- multi-platform

Dying Light -- multi-platform

The Elder Scrolls Online -- multi-platform

Thief -- multi-platform

Star Wars Battlefront (eventually) --multi-platform

Watch Dogs -- multi-platform

Destiny -- multi-platform

The Order:1886 -- PS4

Titanfall -- X1

Project Spark -- X1

As much as I love the idea of Spark, considering price point, minor edge in exclusives so far (IMO), etc. I just can't see a reason to go XBox One right now. I've been an Xbox-Xbox 360 guy from the beginning, but I don't see any reason not to switch right now.

Anyone else leaning this way?

Seems that all the best games announced so far for next-gen are multi-platform anyways, and PS4 might have an edge in terms of how good those look. Titanfall (and Project Spark for me) are Xbox One's big exclusives right now, but I'd bet Destiny will eventually match it and that's multi-platform.

So...why go X1 if you don't care about the multi-media non-gaming stuff??

I think it's the same as last time. If you're primarily a MP gamer, go XB1. If you're primarily a SP gamer, go PS4.

And as Fennis mentioned, they did specify that Titanfall would never be released on anything other than XB1, 360, or PC "throughout the entire life of the game".

Titanfall 2, on the other hand, who knows.

Destiny -- PS4
Destiny is for both, no?
Looks like you're right! Yet another multi-platform game. Overwhelmingly, it seems like there are more multiplats to be excited about than exclusives, which again brings it down to price and performance (if you don't care about the multimedia stuff or Kinect)-- and PS4 would seem to win on both counts there.
This is just IMO, but I believe the two things you mention are really what will set the XBone apart. I believe both with end up being big pluses for the One. Not starting an us/them thing, just my opinion (both will be superb machines). In any case I am pretty much locked in to the XBone - my kid is off the charts excited with Titanfall. And (maybe I'm weird) I am really looking forward to Below. I am a huge sucker for Rogue like games. I played the original for, like, forever.

Oh, I totally get the appeal of the Kinect and the full connectivity type stuff for the X1. I'm just not super connected, social networking wise, don't have much need for skype, don't have cable, and am perfectly content to be pretty much limited to Netflix and simple apps on the PS4. But I do see the appeal for others, same with the improved Kinect and all those possibilities.

And Titanfall may very well end up a system-seller all by itself. I just see lots of multi-platforms that I'm personally more excited for, so if those will run better on a cheaper machine, that's the console I'll go with. And right now, that's the PS4 barring something drastic changing.

And I haven't even really made my decision yet--probably won't until after Xmas. I always planned on waiting out the launch and the launch titles and really waiting for user feedback/reviews/etc. until I make my choice--especially since Xbox has always been my machine and now there seem to be so many reasons to lean the other way for the first time.

It shouldn't since the XB1 is only receiving the same video feed your TV would usually receive.

I would be a little leery about buying a new console this year based simply on launch or near-launch exclusives. If this generation runs another 7-8 years, the exclusive landscape can change dramatically over that time.

If I had to guess, I'd expect the next-gen exclusives to be more or less like they were this time. Microsoft will have a few really huge MP-centric exclusives (last time around it was Gears and Halo) and Sony will have a larger number of primarily SP games (like Uncharted, Gods of War, etc.). It's very early, but so far it's already kind of shaping up that way with Microsoft nailing down the only exclusive so far that seems likely to be a system-seller -- Titanfall -- and Sony pushing games like The Order, Infamous, and, well, Knack. Both will have very similar driving games if you're into that.

Obviously Playstation will have a few mainly-MP games like Killzone, but that has nowhere near the mass appeal of something like Titanfall. If you have an XB1, it is a pretty safe bet that all or almost all your friends will buy Titanfall; the same is not true with the PS4 and KZ. The Xbox will have some SP games, but Sony has quite a few first-party studios that do a really good job in this area and I'd be surprised if Sony's doesn't continue to produce some really excellent SP titles.

In other words, if you had a 360 (PS3) and were happy with the exclusive library last time around, I think it's safe to assume that you'd be happy with the XB1 (PS4) lineup this time, even if the games aren't really there yet.

This ignores all the reasons why a person might prefer an Xbox (multimedia capabilities, Kinect, XBL) or a PS4 (better multiplatform games, price, PS+). I just think it's a good idea not to be too short-sighted on exclusives this close to launch.
