Yahoo Tiebreakers - Who makes the playoffs? (1 Viewer)

Hey gang. Quick random question and I don't know where to put it.

I am 7-6 and sitting in the final playoff slot. It's down to me and one other who is one game and 11 points for behind me. If I win I am in. If he loses I am in. If I lose and he wins, would it come down to points for or head to hear regular season record for the final spot?

I literally can't find anything online for Yahoo tiebreakers. Everything about tiebreakers is geared towards already being in the playoffs. Am I completely missing something here?

In our Yahoo league that I'm the commissioner for, it would be points for. We have this exact same scenario for our donkey award and last playoff position. LOL

I would assume it is however your league was set up as usually that is a setting you can choose. I am not familiar with Yahoo so not sure where to look. Did you choose that setting when you set up the league as commish? Or was that the default standard for Yahoo?

My understanding is that "rankings" (aka "regular season tiebreakers") are done by points for and it's not a setting commissioners can alter. commissioners are given a couple options to resolve ties that occur in the play-offs (eg. H2H record against opponent).

Go to league homepage, settings, league settings. Tiebreaker should be there

Honestly, total points as the tiebreaker is as it should be. It's simple, straightforward, and unless your league is dumb enough to not use fractional points, it will almost certainly eliminate the need for any other tiebreakers. It's also fairer. The team that scores the most points probably had the best season.

By contrast, basing it on H2H strikes me as a way of imitating real-life football in ways that don't really work. The fact that your team beat mine in Week 5 when half of my players were on bye and your crappy TE went off for three TDs doesn't really tell you anything. Plus, it can get super confusing when trying to break a tie between more than two teams (Team A beat B, B split with C, etc)
