By the way, and no offense to any of my iGBs here, but same statement applies for people with neck tattoos or face tattoos. We could broaden it out from there. But imagine how much we could improve the gene pool and society as a whole?

Didn't you buy a shotgun O?I get the pitbull fear, I really do, but they kill something like 19 people a year in America. Is that really the cause you want to take up to protect your children? There are so many greater issues that are more of a legitimate threat to your children that I don't see being such a lightning rod as the animal that irrationally* scares you.

*From the perspective of likelihood that you or your children are actually attacked by one, not from the perspective of what would happen if you defy the odds and lose the lottery and you, or your children, are actually attacked by one.

It feels very irrational.

It frustrates me, because it's stupid. It's a senseless and stupid introduction of additional risk into the equation of life. And not just risk to your own stupid family, but to any family within running distance of your death animal.

Why a pit bull? It makes no sense. Get a turtle, a fish, or a cocker spaniel or any of hundreds of other breeds. But you have to be SUCH a freaking dog nerd/guy with a small peenie complex in order to find a good reason to HAVE to get a pit bull.

It's like, oh man, I'm gonna get a pit bill and a cobra, I'm going to drape boa constrictors on my christmas tree, and I'm going to have the neighbors' kids drink milk off razorblades when they come by for playdates. because why? BECAUSE I'M UBER TOUGH AND AWESOOOOOME

I also thought about putting child safety covers into all the outlets in my house, but that seems so wimpy and ####, so instead I had a custom wiring job done to increase power to all the outlets by a hundred fold, so now there are tesla coil looking lightning bolts constantly shooting across my living room. It looks like an AC/DC song in there 24/7!!! Ruuuulez!!

(Ps I also did this on the outdoor outlets so neighbors can marvel at the awesomeness when they walk past.)

This may very well be true. But in order to reach that conclusion with respect to the situation being discussed, wouldn't you need to know the statistics regarding the number of injuries caused to children in the home by shotguns as a percentage of total households with children where a shotgun is present, and compare that with the number of injuries caused to children in the home by pit bulls as a percentage of total households with children where a pit bull is present? In other words, if you are attempting to analyze relative safety of the situation being discussed, I don't think you should rely on statistics with respect to all types of guns, nor do I think you should limit your analysis only to fatalities. You may very well be right though.

I am the lady on PB Place who Ms. Fl accused of kicking her dog because he is a pittbull (October 25th post). First of all, Ms. Fl, you give other dog owners a bad name. You are totally delusional if you think your dog is not aggressive. I walk through our neighborhood almost weekly and have NEVER had the experience I had with your dog. Without any provocation, he charged me repeatedly, circling me, barking and foaming at the mouth. He had so much... foam in his mouth; it was spewing out every time he barked at me. You even became angry with him yourself whenever he would not respond to your calls. Remember how you yelled and cursed at him and threatened to beat the f*** out of him whenever you caught him? Your dog followed me all the way to my home barking, circling, and charging me - the reason you know the street on which I live! Yes, I did start kicking at him as he came closer and closer to me; and this had nothing to do with his breed. It was all about my trying to protect myself, which I am well within my rights to do against an attacking, seemingly rabid dog. My God, if there is a law that allows unarmed people to be murdered by someone who feels threatened by them, can I not kick at a dog that is attacking me??!! For those of you who made ugly comments towards me after reading Ms. FLs post, I realize that you were commenting out of ignorance because you did not have the true account. If you do a little research, you will find that I am not the only person in this neighborhood who has been threatened by Ms. FL’s dog. Although I don’t waste my time in ‘word wars’ on social media, I felt the need to address Ms. FLs post whenever I learned of it and read it. So I am finished with this exchange other than to say thank you for letting me know who you are, Ms. FL. I now have a name to pass to animal control so they can help you to control your dog, since you obviously need help doing so!​

Someone has to mess up pretty bad to raise a mean Irish wolfhound. A well-socialized, but spoiled, wolfhound is still risky around strangers because they can readily knock people over and beat the heck out of someone with their tail. 99 times out of 100, though, they're sweethearts.

Toy poodles are usually fine, but a lot of owners don't take their bad behavior seriously ... they can turn out pretty neurotic. I've seen a few that snap and bite people way too often -- while the owner laughs it off.

Last year this time of the year there was a guy on the beach trying to prevent his two pitbulls from killing each other, one or both were in heat, apparently that drives them nuts, he was begging me to help but there was no way I was putting my hand near a 100 pound pitbulls neck to control it. I ran to call to the cops because the guy was getting bitten in the process, cops said I was nuts to be anywhere near them things, as I stood there watching the cops put the big pitbull down with gunshots I started talking to other people around me, seemed like all of them were bitten by pitbulls recently, one was going to the doctor for an eye problem caused by a pitbull another was recently bitten in the leg, etc. I can't believe we tolerate these beasts mingling around normal people.

My sister has a pit bull and my friend had a St. Bernand that played with my lab for 6 months or so when St Bernand was a puppy. These breeds plus a few others are different than most dogs in many ways. Playing with them will show you that. Their aggressive nature will show you that.

Most people that have pit bulls and large aggressive dogs do not and are not equiped to train them properly. The STB that played with my lab went nuts at age 2 and had to be put down.

Too many pit owners want them because it is "cool" just like their tramp stamp and barbwire tattoos.

In the case of the facebook wars my dog was brought up. It was the "old lab". She wore she electric collar growing up. She doesn't now and never will again. She knows her yard, been in it since 2001. She has never been lost or brought back to me. On at least 5 occasions I have let out one dog and when my dog hit the door to let her in, there was two there. One time a lab that looked just like her which was really funny. I found out who they belonged to and either called them or walked them back to their house.

My dog likes to just lay outside. People walk by with their dogs just pulling the leash raising hell at her and she just sits there minding her own business in her yard. The school bus drops off the corner of my yard. The people behind have two kid and a least 4 kids walk through my yard to get to their house everyday. She just watches them and never moves.

This is why I got a lab/golden. Because I knew I could train her and control her off leash. I am a great teacher when it comes to dogs. Every command for my dog has a hand signal too. There is no way I could feel comfortable letting an aggressive breed dog that I trained have the same freedom. They are were not bred to be passive and instincts will kick in IMO. The only reason my 3 year old dog at the timeand the STB puppy could play together is because she was totally submissive when it got rough. Once STB stopped backing off when my dog was submissive it was over for them playing together.

I am all for owners of an aggressive breed dogs to be held criminally responsible if there dog attacks. And to pass this if it means all dog owners, so be it.

Pit bulls are everything people have said about them both good and bad. But they, more than an other breed at this time are the focus of fear and that is with cause. I love my sisters 50 pound pit. I am always and I mean always on guard around him. He is a sweetheart but is also aggressive and forceful. Playing with him you can feel the shear power of that dog. He is never off leash and never should be.

In the end of this rant, I guess I am saying, to large breed dog owners, you got dangerous dogs, act accordingly. They are not, by enlarge, the same as most other breeds quit that nonsense. And you put the burden on yourself, so go above and beyond to make sure people are safe from your loved pet.

Exactly. I love seeing the "hey only 19 people were killed this year" so what's the big deal. Then you see that Wiki article with millions of dog bites. Unless it is a kid, most adults won't die due to a dog attack. Pit bulls are vicious animals, period. Not once did I ever think my labs growing up would attack someone as if it were a death match.

WE had a pit chase my wife home this weekend. It was out off leash, again, with no supervision. It chased my wife and our dog home.

That dog is no longer in our neighborhood this morning, actually as of a few moments after it chased my wife.

Went running through my neighborhood on Sunday. I ran while carrying a baseball bat. Have run by multiple houses with dogs not on a leash, and one in particar with a very aggressive pit bull. Had to call the ops on that incident.

Not taking any chances. I wonder what people think when they see a guy running with a baseball bat. I can only assume they understand. And I would love to take a big swing at a pit if given the chance.

Carrying a bat may, as you suggest, be less effective than one would hope. That's why I encourage folks to carry Rhonda Rousey while running. Just toss her at any attacking dog or muggers and watch her go to work while you easily move off to a safe distance.

these terrible, terrible beasts. I just told my pitbull how horrible her and her breed are, and she licked my hand. Honestly, it doesn't take a genius to know not to try and break up 2 dogs fighting, pitbulls or any other bigger breed? I'm not sure how one of the people had an issue with their eye because of the pitbull, and what they did to cause an injury like that, but i guess so be it

A decent start would be finding the owners who violate leash laws or running at large laws.
