You Could Have Reggie White or Marshall Faulk (1 Viewer)

and you are building an expansion team with first pick...

who do you get?

* these are of course code for mario williams and reggie bush... lets for the sake of this exercise imagine they really did turn out to be that good... unlikely as that may seem...

** i'll answer my own question... when put like this, maybe reggie white/mario williams...

as rare as reggie (bush) is, i can think of about three guys like him (sayers, sanders & faulk)... OTOH, when i try & think of comp player to the other reggie (white)... he is sort of unprecedented... he may have had more singular talent...

I'd go with Reggie with all due respect to Faulk who was an absolute stud. Guys like Reggie are very rare and difficult to find. While Faulk is a great one and was silly in his prime it's far easier to dig up a good RB than physically dominant DE. You win with defense and having an anchor like Reggie is a great foundation. The fact he was a leader is another bonus.

Faulk has always been thought of as an everydown back. Bush is not. I would much rather have the next Reggie II compared to the next 3/4 Faulk

If Mario is a double digit sack guy who is also a great run defender, he will be worth more than Reggie no matter what he becomes. I question if he is that guy, but if the Texans are close to certain that he is, they made the right pick.

In addition, it seems that many NFL teams had Mario ahead of Bush on their boards. If so, the Texans could not trade down. They made the logical decision if Mario is the top guy on their board.

Reggie White and it should not even be close.

As much as Faulk was a series changer, Reggie was a game changer much like Deion in his prime. No body ever passed on Deion, he took half the field away. Reggie did much the same thing except Reggie was responsible for the RB's, and QB's. Deion, nothing against him, just had to shut down one guy. Reggie shut down the interior of the trenches which is where the game is won.

Faulk, yeah, he could score from anywhere on the field and was always dangerous but Faulk at a great supporting cast that held defenders on them as well. Faulk, on a Texans team or an expansion team is not Faulk. Reggie on an expansion team is nearer Reggie than Faulk would be to Faulk.

Give me the guy who used to throw Larry Allen...a certain HOFer and one of the strongest men in the NFL for some time now.......around like a friggin' RAG DOLL. He played DE, DT, NT and messed up the entire Oline. Having said this, we wont see another Reggie White for years and years and years.

What play makes a bigger impact on a game - sack or TD. Reggie White had 198 career sacks and Faulk had 136 career TDs.

I don't know how many tackles White had but Faulk has over 19,000 total yards.

I'll take the guy who scores the TDs.

Faulk may have scored 136 TDs but how many TDs did Reggie White prevent? There is a stat I would like to know.

Faulk didnt score a TD in either Superbowl he played in. Reggie White had 3 massive sacks in his against Bledsoe. Not 100% positive, but I believe Faulk was held to something ridiculous like 17yds rushing against the Titans and had 76yds against NE. Surely he had receiving yds which certainly contibuted, but again, no TDs in either title game. He was a great player, but that stat speaks for itself. Green Bay would never have won a title without White.

You also have to consider how many fumbles Reggie White forced, how many early throws he forced that turned into int's, how many double teams he drew that got sacks for other guys....

I'm an Eagles homer so I won't pretend to be biased. But I'm also a huge Marshall Faulk fan.

IMHO...you take Reggie White without question. Just from a longevity standpoint.

Both are phenoms...but all things being equal, give me the HOF defensive end over the HOF RB.

I agree with you completely. Do you think whatever those numbers are they're of greater value than 19,000 yards?

good point... i'd say the latter (given how rare white is it seems more likely playing the percentages)...

but another way to look at it...

since there seems to be more of a consensus that dominant DE more important than dominant RB... if mario can get close (80%?), that might still make him more valuable to hypothetical expansion franchise than a bush who realizes 90% of his potential in emulating faulk's career.

Decon/Bruce down?

i'm a reggie white guy...

but i'm sure texans will be pleased if mario has a bruce smith-like career...

also, in body type, williams reminds me more of reggie...
