You gotta feel for the Pats and the Cowboys (1 Viewer)

Pats a little bit. 11-5 and not making the playoffs after their best player went out week 1 is pretty crappy.

Cowboys are just losers. Have been overrated for a couple of years now.

UHHHH....NO!

Pats cheated to win in past so it's justice. Cowboys just suck, they humiliated themselves today...what a bunch of losers...lets call it the Roy Williams curse

How can you feel bad for the Cowgals ?

They are a bad football team.

They had their destiny in their hands today and lied down like lambs.

Pats on the other hand destroyed teams with a patchwork defense

and tons of injuries on both sides of the ball. To finish 11-5 with that ragtag team is amazing.

Cowboys NO.

I think the team thought all year they were a given for the playoffs and showed a lack of heart and determination while teams like Miami, Atlanta and even NE (to name a few) played every game with purpose.

To me it also comes back to Jerry Jones and his presumption of talent.

FYI- Romo is way overrated and has not proven his big contract.

My 2cents....

I can't say I feel sorry for either. They all know the rules and what it takes to get in. When you don't do that - whether by bad luck or injury - you sit at home. I understand that not getting in at 11-5 has only happened once before, but the Pats and Cowboys both had the opportunity to win their divisions and failed to do so. A wild card is exactly that.

As for whether the teams are deserving of respect...I tip my hat to the Pats big time for the adversity they've overcome this season. Jerry Jones on the other hand needs to realize that heads need to roll at the very top of the organization...namely his. Does it ever occur to him that he might be a big part of the problem?

As a Cowboys fan, I think I speak for both groups to say that we're flattered that people care so much about the two teams that they're willing to single them out among the 20 teams that didn't make the playoffs. Stay classy, fans jealous of America's team(s).

as a Steelers fan I kind of feel sorry for the Pats but are glad they're out. I think they are the best team in the AFC east

love seeing the J-E-T-S jets jets jets flushing 4 out of the last games down the toilet

Frankly, 11-5 should guarantee a playoff spot. That is totally bogus...

Plus, I wanted to see them get steam-rolled by the ravens in the 1st round...now what do I do??

You cant say the Pats did what it took to get in. They had there chance when they played Miami in the regular season and they got beat down. Each game matters in the NFL, not just the final few. Almost wish they made it, would've made the Cassel/Brady situation more humorous

3,650 days since their last playoff win and Dallas fans still trot out the nicknames.
I believe there has been a couple of leap years in there as well...

Sure thing, guys. Guess you haven't checked TV ratings, merchandising sales or franchise value lately. I'm pretty sure that Dallas is the most popular team in America (and New England is near the top). How else would you define the term?

Thank goodness that Super Bowls aren't based on fair-weather people! The next big game Tony Romo wins will be the FIRST big game Tony Romo wins.

OK. Not sure what you're trying to say here.

I love the Patriots, but I don't mind them missing the playoffs this year. I felt like we were playing with house money all year, to the point where 11-5 feels like a pretty successful season, or at least one that greatly exceeds expectations. I didn't have high expectations for them winning in the playoffs, and I don't really care whether they get knocked out by a tiebreaker in the division/wild card or get knocked out in an early round. If the Pats don't have Brady back next year, that's a whole different story. That'd be way more disappointing than today was.

Pats benefited from a joke of an easy sked this year -- 7 of their 11 wins came vs. the AFC and NFC West. Then they swept Buffalo and split vs. Miami and the Jets.

Remind me again of their signature win this season? Gaining the split vs. a Dolphins team that humiliated them earlier? Whipping a Cardinal team that gave the most shameful effort the NFL has seen in a decade?

The entire AFC East is very weak this year, as evidenced by its champion, an 11-5 team that benefited from the same easy schedule the Pats had (and like New England, going 0-2 vs. the AFC North and South) and that will be whipped at home in the Wild Card round by the Ravens (again).

The NFL and TV networks would respectfully disagree with your glee. :wall:

Looking forward to a Panthers-Titans Super Bowl and the lowest ratings in 20 years!

 I'm proud of the Patriot season. They overcame a great deal this year. The Cassel situation is very tricky IMO. I'm not sure if they can successfully Franchise and then trade him. Big number to carry on your cap if even only for a couple of months.Brady will be back. Adalius Thomas will be back. The Pats have their 1st round pic, 2 2nds and 2 3rds in next years draft. Good chance to restock the defense.

A Colts-Panters SB would be very intriguing. IMO, the Titans just don't have the whole package necessary to make it through the playoffs.

I couldn't care less about the ratings of the Super Bowl. Panthers-Titans would be a great game and one I would be very happy to watch, regardless of the feelings of the millions of non-football fans who watch one game a year.To be honest, I woke up this morning and thought there was no way that both the Pats and Cowboys missed the playoffs. You know the NFL wanted both of them in. The fact they both missed out is a good one to remember the next time some bozo starts with the "the NFL is fixed" line of crap. What will the playoff times be? You know the NFL wants Manning on in prime time Saturday night vs. whoever wins the AFC West. I predict:Saturdayearly game: Atlanta at Arizonalate game: Indy at AFC WestSundayearly game: Baltimore at Miamilate game: Philly at MinnesotaThe NFL would have loved Dallas at Chicago in the late slot Sunday, or the Jets at New England

You are right. The Patriots beat 3 marginal playoff teams in Arizona, Denver and Miami. If the Patriots wanted to make the playoffs, they should have beaten Indianapolis and or San Diego. Unfortunately, they played Indy and SD to early in the season. Either before Cassel got comfortable or before the coaching staff got comfortable with him. I think the current Pats team hit their stride late (against questionable competition) and was really intrigued by a possible matchup with Baltimore. I think Baltimore has a run in them. I think they beat Miami and have a good shot at beating a banged up Pittsburgh team to get to the AFC Championship.

My heart bleeds for the 3 time Super Bowl Champs, to watch a team that struggled with their Superman QB going down in week 1, being forced to use Matt Casell and still forging ahead to notch 11 big wins. TO know that a coach as great as Billy B who may have performed his greatest ledership as a coach this season only to have it end with such heartbreak, yeah I feel really bad.

Sincerely,

Bill Parcells

As a Phillies fan, I heard a lot of talk about low ratings for the Series and how MLB (FOX) would have rather had an LA/Boston Series. Phillies/Rays could have been the lowest rated Series ever. Well, I have a certain finger I'd like to wave at those people to let them know the Phillies are #1. My team won the Championship and I really don't care what the ratings were. I'm pretty sure Panthers & Titans fans would feel the same if their team wins the SB.

I hate the Patriots as much as anybody on this board, but I have to give you lots of credit for being the voice of reason here. Realistically, if you told NE Nation in the preseason that they would lose Brady in week 1 and still go 11-5, you'd have to be ecstatic with that result and figure that a division title would follow. The end of this season was bizarrely unlucky for NE.

 Unlucky, but it's hard to get too down about this particular Pats team not making the playoffs. With all of the injuries, they were a fatally flawed defensive team that was likely to get exposed in either the first or second round of the tournament.

Indy and SD early in the season was precisely the time you'd want to play them. It's B.B.'s fault for not having Cassel more comfortable to take on those two teams when their weaknesses were exposed.

Sucks to go 11-5 and not make it in, but the Pats had their chances this year and just came up short in the games that counted. I also wasn't expecting much more than 1-and-done even if they made it, and overall, when Brady went down I said they were a 10 win team, hard to be disappointed with 11 wins with the injuries they had this year.

I don't get why the Cowboys would be in this discussion though.

Oh, no, GB, I can't believe you went there. Ratings and merchandising sales? On this board, we mostly care about results on the field. ;)
