I'll probably get crap for this but Tony Kornheiser - I think he was not good on MNF but always liked him on radio. Main thing I like is he hits a wide variety of topics that are all things I'm usually interested in. He's not for everyone but I enjoy listening during my commute.

Nope I'm with you...love Mr. Tony. There are only two things that bug me: when Liz Clarke co-hosts (such a hen, and her sighing over Springsteen makes me want to slit my wrists); and constant references to Wilbon. I don't even mind when Wilbon's on. I just get tired of TK referencing Wilbon's opinions on any topic that's being discussed.

Venting over. These two months without Kornheiser's podcast are tough. It's a great listen.

100% agree on Clarke - she's horrible and has actually made me question my love of Springsteen. No clue what TK sees in her. I'd take any of the chick chair hosts over her any day.

The othe thing I'm not a huge fan of is his NBA talk with Sam Smith - that guy annoys me for some reason.

If you like English Premier League Soccer, The Tuesday Club, which is led by Alan Davies and ostensibly an Arsenal podcast, covers lots of premier league and other things and is followed by many non-Arsenal fans.

(It was previously known as "It's Up For Grabs Now")

Love Mr. Tony also. Been a little for a long-time! His guests are usually very good. Of course, I'm partial to Bob Ryan, since I graduated HS with his son, Keith.

Always thought that if he could handle what he refers to as a 'google-machine,' that he actually would fit in here. Since some of what they talk about is sports, but most is not, and things like music and movies are high on the list.

facook, you are correct, these next two months are going to be hard. Especially since he restarts on the day my kids go back to school, and as a Mr. Mom, summer will go slowly while I am awaiting my first year of having all three in school for a full day!!

Love this show. Really miss it these two months.

Like others, a couple of my favorites are Radiolab and Freakonomics. Any recommendations for podcasts that are similar - science, stats, sociology, etc..?
StarTalk with Neil deGrasse Tyson.
Any exactly like Star Talk without the "comedians" constantly talking over the interesting people? This would be a great show if Tyson was solo talking to guests or had a sidekick that was also from the science industry. Maybe someone from Mythbusters? I've tried 5-6 episodes but it's unlistenable to me. The comedian interrupts and then they never come back to get an answer/explanation. The lady is better than the guy but both just ruin it for me.

One thing that helps is downloading the "This Show Stinks" version from iTunes. Dude posts podcast same-day (sales weasel sonsabiches) and the last couple weeks has posted some "best of" compilations from 2012.

Also, another guy I like is Scott Van Pelt. It's more sports-centric but SVP doesn't take himself seriously and there's enough lifestyle/pop culture stuff to keep it interesting.

Any great football podcasts? I'm hoping to find something like the basketball jones for football. I'm listening to the Ross Tucker pod and its replacement level. Tried to like the audible but I'm just not enough of a fantasy diehard for those types of shows to keep my attention while working out.
Rich Eisen podcast

Dave damesheck. His voice takes getting used to.

These are ones I haven't listened to as they are during the season only...

Norm Macdonald Podcast is the ish.
What the hell happened? He hasn't had anyone on since Andy **** almost a month ago.

Big fan of the jay mohr podcast.
Yah, I know. On the youtube page, it says that he is on extended hiatus for the summer. Probably too busy eating.
Lol "My doctor told me stick out my tongue and say 'oink'."
We'll agree to disagree.

Stacking Benjamins is a decent financial podcast. Nothing too advance (think Dave Ramsey like) but it's fairly entertaining.

"Maron" on IFC has me interested in hearing Mark Maron's podcast.

The TV show has potential if you're looking for something to check out.

Someone mentioned earlier "We're Alive". Pretty Awesome show. Unlike regular audiobooks this is a full on full cast production. Great story, production, music, sound effects and acting. Solid all the way around
Just heard an ad for this on the Sigler MVP podcast - thanks for the reminder, I'm subscribing now.
I'm happy with this so far... about 14 chapters in - I'm getting a ton of work done in the yard while listening to this.
I binged this thing, now I'm waiting for season 4 to come...

Both the series and the podcast are excellent.
I think he's surpassed Howard Stern as best interviewer, imo.
:lmao:
Stern is not the best interviewer. He often steps on people's answers and misses revealing tidbits to go on tangents. That being said his celebrity and forum he has created often lead to interviews NO one else can put forth consistently.

Steven Tyler has done some revealing interviews with others. But Stern got everything out of him. Stern's celebrity allows him to go places other's can't.

Maron does a good job but he doesn't have the clout to go places Stern does.

That said Stern doesn't get a lot of timely interviews. They avoid him. But when he does get them they are very entertaining. Seinfeld avoided Stern for a long time. But he was on recently and it was a great interview.

I like Kornheiser. Heading to iTunes to look for his podcast now (yeah, I get that he's on 2 month hiatus).

btw - If you guys are into fantasy football at all, there are some decent FF podcasts out there. <_<

Like Fantasy Focus Football (ESPN) - should be restarting in a couple weeks.

Remember waaaaaay back when these guys were "The Don and Mike Show" on a station here in DC. They were wonderful, then Don's wife was killed in a car accident (she was often on the show and was really funny - RIP.) This caused the show to end shortly after...

Been eight years (July 10) since Frieda died.

I hope so because Football Today on ESPN is terrible..almost can't listen to it..I'm hoping that it will get better once the season starts. It tries to be funny, but fails terribly.

They did a show on July 11, and I think they will be restarting in a couple weeks. A large part of that delay is the fact that Matthew Berry just released a book ("Fantasy Life" - supposed to be very good) this week and is hopping around selling it.

I like ESPN FFF all right, but man Berry gets TIRED after a couple of weeks. His vocabulary is 50% verbal crutches.

CBSSPorts FF podcast is decent. Way less shtick, more straight info/analysis.

Kill Tony. established comedians giving input to very green comedians after doing 60 seconds of material.

Hah! Did the same thing. Came to the series not too much after the final episode aired and totally binged my way through. I'd take the long way home and pray for red lights so I could squeeze in one more episode. Now that season 4 is out, I've been avoiding it to "save up" episodes so I don't have to wait a week in between.

I have tinnitus and have got to have something going noise-wise or the ringing is unbearable. I would love to listen to this stuff while drifting off to sleep.

Can anyone recommend a particular type of earplug that works well trying to sleep on your side? I am surfing but would like to hear from any of you that have attempted this and if you found anything that works for you.
No earplug recommendations but I generally have some sort of white noise like a fan that helps. It is seriously maddening though

For those that listen to the Tony Kornheiser Podcast (or show), there is a website that has some of the songs that the people send in to be played before the email. It is TKJingles.com. They are incredibly clever.

Here is one. (Click on Download)

Anybody else having trouble downloading podcasts on their iPhone? Mine won't download when I hit the gray down arrow button.

I know their is a lot of negative feedback with Apple's Podcast app, but I've never had any trouble until now.

Any recommendations for a different one?

Two of the Impractical Jokers/Tenderloins, Brian Quinn (also of Tell 'Em Steve-Dave on Smodco) and Sal Vulcano have started their own pod, 'What Say You'. It's available on iTunes and Beyond Pod. Pretty good so far starting off.

I'm not a fan of the Apple Podcast app, either. Experienced the same problem you're describing.

I have mine set to block podcast downloads when I'm not connected to Wi-Fi to protect against unwanted data usage, but if I'm connected to a Wi-Fi other than my home one, there seems to be a ghost in the machine.

The only workaround I've found for the gray down arrow button failure is deleting and restarting, but that technique feels so 1990s.

Heck, I haven't figured out how to read show descriptions through the Podcast app. Haven't investigated that one much and it's a minor nuisance, but I have a couple podcasts where I skip over some of the topics, and podcast usually sends time stamps of given topics in the Description.

I've used Downcast for probably about a year now and have been nothing but happy with it since.
