2) The article says "Obama remains personally popular", yet doesn't provide any polling data or backup. Do you have any polling that shows how his likability compares to his approval rating?

Edit: appears strike may have already brought up that point, I usually don't bother reading his posts so I missed it.

The campaigner-in-chief is doing a bang up job, not making anyone happy...

President Barack Obama's support is eroding among elements of his base and a yearlong effort to recapture the political center has failed to attract independent voters, according to the latest New York Times/CBS News poll, leaving him vulnerable at a moment when pessimism over the country's direction is greater than at any other time since he took office. The President's effort to seize the initiative on the economy was well-received by the public, and clear majorities support crucial pieces of his new job-creation program. But despite Obama's campaign to sell the plan to Congress and voters, more than half of those questioned said they feared the economy was already in or was headed for a double-dip recession, and nearly three-quarters think the country is on the wrong track. The President's support has fallen to its lowest levels across parts of the diverse coalition of voters who elected him, including women, suburbanites and college graduates. And a persistent effort over the past year to reclaim his appeal to independent voters has shown few signs of bearing fruit, with 59 percent voicing disapproval.

There's nothing he can do. Americans want results, and you and I know there will be none by the time we vote again. All the political posturing he is making will achieve zip. Its like furious kicking to get out of the quicksand. He had his shot in 2009 and 2010. He didn't get it done. Americans will fire the current general and get a new one now.

I find this whole "Warren Buffet" Tax to be incredibly insulting.

How can they continue to trot out this whole "My secretary pays a higher Tax Rate" Bull #### with a straight face....

They are taking people for complete idiots.

As more and more people understand and get the fact that Warren Buffet makes little "Salary" and makes his money off investing money already taxed, Obama and his ilk just standing their like outright Thieves as the cutain gets pulled away.

Really, THIS is your story.... Buffetts secretary makes more $$$$..

That's your latest Bait and switch....

Disgusting.

Voted for him. Wouldn't do it again unless the Republican candidate is more inept than he has been.

Wife and I argued about him just the other day. I said I wouldn't vote for him again because he has done absolutely nothing. His efforts (what little effort he has exerted) have been futile. Seems like he is constantly on vacation instead of hammering out resolutions to our problems. And he is still sending our troops all over the place instead of taking care of business on the home front. My wife says he can't get anything done because Congress blocks him on everything. I mean seriously...what positive change has he been a catalyst for?

Will we ever get a president determined to take care of our problems instead of being more concerned with the worlds problems?

Saving America, one vote at a time...

Florida Independent Voters Could Make All the Difference in 2012In 2008, then-Senator Barack Obama won Florida's presidential election by winning over the state's independent voters. Exit polls show 52 percent of them voted for Obama. That was then, this is now - and recent polls show that important voting bloc is cooling to the president. According to the latest Quinnipiac poll, just 33 percent of Florida's independent voters approve of the job the president is doing. A whopping 61 percent disapprove of his performance.Justin Sayfie, political consultant and author of the Sayfie Review says the Sunshine State's independent voters are worried not only about the economy, but also the president's leadership. "I'm trying to hold on as much as I can because I like the guy," Marin says, adding, "but so far he hasn't shown us anything."

President Obama -- The Long Goodbye BeginsTuesday's special elections for House seats in New York and Nevada were devastating for Democrats. Both races turned into a referendum on President Obama, who again proved how unpopular he is.The New York seat made vacant by Anthony Weiner's sexting scandal has been in Democratic hands since 1923. Mr. Obama carried it by 11 points in 2008, but on Tuesday Republican Bob Turner beat Democrat David Weprin by eight. In a district with a 3-1 Democratic registration advantage, dissatisfaction with Mr. Obama among blue-collar ethnics and orthodox Jews was central to the GOP victory.John McCain carried Nevada's 2nd District by a mere 88 votes in 2008. Yet Tuesday, former state Republican chairman Mark Amodei beat State Treasurer Kate Marshall by 28,307. In some ways, the Nevada defeat is the more damaging. While both Democrats were lavishly funded, Mr. Weprin is now being disparaged as a poor campaigner. However, Ms. Marshall was thought to be the perfect candidate. Running the 2012 Democratic playbook, she ran ads accusing Mr. Amodei of "supporting an end to Medicare to give tax breaks to millionaires." It didn't work. The Obama presidency is now in a downward spiral. The economy has flat-lined, his poll numbers are plummeting, and Democratic leaders are turning on the president.

Another obama success... How many more do you need to see before you admit his election was a huge fraud on America???

Federal Loans Fund Big-Ticket Energy Projects at Firms Outside of U.S.Among the biggest recipients on the Department of Energy's controversial list of loans to renewable energy companies like the failed Solyndra Inc. are a number of non-U.S. firms whose big-ticket energy projects will cost taxpayers billions of dollars -- but will generate no more than a few hundred permanent U.S. jobs. Some of the companies employ complex solar technologies that cost more than twice as much as any other land-based renewable system, including nuclear. The huge cost and relatively low long-term employment payoff for the investments could cast doubt on the Obama administration's claims that big investments in new green technologies will lead the U.S. to innovative parity with countries like China, and also create significant long-term employment gains for the U.S. economy.
Is this part of his "jobs saved"???Now imagine his name was Bush...

Wow. The latest poll out of New Hampshire is brutal for Obama.

Obama approval plummets in NH

By: CNN Political Producer Rachel Streitfeld

Manchester, New Hampshire (CNN) - Sixty-five percent of New Hampshire residents disapprove of President Obama's handling of the economy, according to a new poll.

The American Research Group's September 2011 Quarterly New Hampshire Poll also found the president's approval rating in the first-in-the-nation primary state is pegged at 31%.

Dante Scala, a political science professor at the University of New Hampshire, said the notable shift in Obama's support is among undeclared, or independent voters. Sixty-seven percent of undeclared voters in the state say they disapprove of how the president has handled the economy.

Even though New Hampshire's unemployment rate is much lower than the national figure, Scala said voters here are affected by rampant displeasure in the economy.

Obama lost New Hampshire's primary to Hillary Clinton in 2008 but triumphed over John McCain here with 54% in the general election. The state carries four electoral votes.

The American Research group poll was conducted by telephone from September 25-29, surveying 547 adults in New Hampshire. The sampling error was plus or minus 4.2 percentage points.

March 07, 2011Poll: Obama More Likeable Than Policies

The Quinnipiac University poll shows most Americans find President Obama personally likeable. But when it comes to his policies, the country is divided, says pollster Peter Brown. "Almost three in four Americans, 74 percent, say they like President Obama personally. But only 42 percent like his policies. That is a very large gap and the question in terms of the president’s re-election is really whether his personality or his policies will rule."

Probably a good 80+% of the people disapprove of everything and anything that has to with the current economy, and it doesn't matter what political figure you "insert here".

Why are you taking a poll from WAY back in march 2011? Here is a CBS/New York times poll that looks at September 2011 numbers. His personal favorability ratings went upside-down for the first time:Approval rating: 43%

Disapproval rating: 50%

Favorable rating: 39%

Unfavorable rating: 42%

So now we have a situation where the public disapproves of his job performance, and they dislike him on a personal level.

RealClearPolitics covers his favorable/unfavorable ratings. Their poll average is +1 in his favor. So while it may be technically correct to argue the public likes him (by 1%), its just as well to say the public is split overall on wether they like him or not, and that they are increasingly disliking him on a personal level, as this number is falling.

Interesting... I tend to believe that 2008 Obama won on his personality, as he had little policy-making background to review. This time around, we have a significant policy window to look at, and it's not one that resonates with the American voter. I don't think personality will win out this time.

Opposition to Obama grows strongly.

1. 4 in 10 now "strongly" disapprove of Obama's job performance.

2. 43% of independents agree.

3. 47% of people age 65 or older agree.

This compares to January 2011, where only 28% agreed.

The article concludes that Obama's only chance of winning may be to win ugly, by running a divisive campaign tailored to drive up democrat turnout out of fear of the republican nominee. I don't know how you make people afraid of Romney, but whatever.

Opposition to Obama grows — strongly

Posted by Chris Cillizza and Aaron Blake at 06:20 AM ET, 10/05/2011

Four in 10 Americans “strongly” disapprove of how President Obama is handling job as president in the new Washington Post-ABC News poll, the highest that number has risen during his time in office and a sign of the hardening opposition to him as he seeks a second term.

While the topline numbers are troubling enough, dig deeper into them and the news gets no better for Obama. Forty-three percent of independents — a group the president spent the better part of the last year courting — strongly disapprove of the job he is doing. Forty seven percent of people 65 years of age and older — reliable voters in any election — strongly disapprove of how he is doing his job.

Strong opposition to Obama has grown markedly since the start of the year.

In a mid-January Post-ABC survey, 28 percent strongly disapproved of the job Obama was doing. That number has steadily ticked upward — with the exception of a poll in early May that followed hard on the killing of Osama bin Laden — as the year has worn on and the economy has remained sluggish (at best).

And even as his strong disapproval numbers have steadily risen, his strong approval numbers have gone into a mirror-image decline.

In January, 30 percent strongly approved of the job Obama was doing. In the latest Post-ABC survey, that numbers is 21 percent and, as recently as early August, it had dipped to 18 percent.

All of those numbers — and yes, we here at the Fix do love us some poll numbers — point to a simple fact: The “anyone but Obama” crowd is getting larger and more strident in their opinions, while the president’s base is growing less and less strongly supportive of how he is doing the job.

To that point: 43 percent of self-identified Democrats said they “strongly” approve of the job Obama is doing, while 74 percent of Republicans strongly disapprove. That’s a 31-point disparity for you non-math majors out there.

The poll data provide empirical evidence for the recent switch in Obama’s rhetoric from a focus on compromise (aimed at independents) to one that accentuates the differences between his approach and the one advocated by Republicans (aimed at Democrats).

The Post-ABC poll does suggest, however, that Obama’s jobs plan could well help him repair relations with his party base. More than eight in 10 Democrats — and 81 percent of liberals — support it.

A dispirited base coupled with a highly energized opposition isn’t an ideal place for the president to be, but neither is it a political death sentence. President George W. Bush found himself in a not dissimilar situation in 2004 and managed to win re-election using a scorched-earth approach designed to disqualify Massachusetts Sen. John Kerry (D) in the eyes of voters.

These numbers affirm that the 2012 election will look a lot more like that 2004 election than it will Obama’s 2008 victory. Put another way: winning ugly may be the only way for the president to win next November.

I know I shouldn't be at this point, but I am absolutely shocked that he's laying into BOA for their $5 debit card fee.

You can stop it because if you say to the banks: You dont have some inherent right just to, you know, get a certain amount of profit, if your customers are being mistreated, that you have to treat them fairly and transparently, Obama said. The president said the $5 per month charge is exactly why we need somebody whose sole job it is to prevent this kind of stuff from happening and noted that the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau is the type of strong watchdog agency the U.S. needs to crack down on cases like this.
No you GD idiot. This is why we need competition so that customers can choose, if it's important enough to them, to go to another bank that doesn't charge the fee. This guy's not even a community organizer. He's nothing but an agitator. That our government is singling out private corporations in such a fashion is, quite frankly, more than a little bit frightening.

Obama Campaign Says GOP Blocking Jobs Bill--After Reid Blocks Jobs Bill4:17 PM, Oct 4, 2011 • By MICHAEL WARREN The Obama campaign sent out an email today asking supporters to urge Congress to at least vote on the president’s jobs bill almost immediately after Democratic majority leader Harry Reid blocked a vote on the bill in the Senate. On the Senate floor today, Republican leader Mitch McConnell asked for unanimous consent to proceed on voting on the bill. Reid, who has struggled to find enough votes for the bill in the Democratic caucus, objected to the motion and killed the opportunity for a vote. About ten minutes later, Jim Messina, Obama’s 2012 campaign manager, emailed this message to supporters: President Obama is in Dallas today urging Americans who support the American Jobs Act to demand that Congress pass it already. Though it's been nearly a month since he laid out this plan, House Republicans haven't acted to pass it. And House Majority Leader Eric Cantor is out there actually bragging that they won't even put the jobs package up for a vote -- ever. It's not clear which part of the bill they now object to: building roads, hiring teachers, getting veterans back to work. They're willing to block the American Jobs Act -- and they think you won't do anything about it. But here's something you can do: Find Republican members of Congress on Twitter, call them out, and demand they pass this bill.So will the Obama campaign be asking its supporters to "call out" Harry Reid and "demand" he and Senate Democrats pass the bill?

Obama administration was going to give Solyndra a second loan?

ouch.

2nd Loan?

The Obama administration's Department of Energy was poised last summer to give Solyndra a second major taxpayer loan of $469 million, even as the company's financial situation was growing more dire.

The Energy Department was actively pushing to provide the second loan guarantee to the troubled solar-panel manufacturer in April and May 2010, when Solyndra's auditors warned the company was in danger of closing due to its rapidly mounting debts and expenses, according to complete e-mails just released by a House committee investigating the original loan.

I'm really amazed that Obama is front and center and going on the attack with an approval rating of 38%. That takes guts, I'll give him that. He's gotta have people in the democratic party paranoid that he will sink everyone down the ticket in 2012. Most president's would be contrite, pull back, reassess, and try to move to the center. Not Obama.

I'll say this. He's out on that plank by himself. No democrat is going to come to his aid.

So I have to ask, what do people like Adonis think now? He was a HUGE voice on this board for Obama prior to his election. What do you think now? CLEARLY you have to realize your mistake and know he is a complete failure as President now.

I dont even blame people who voted for him before but now, it is so obvious that he is a failure that defending him is just ridiculous at this point.

You must have had to dig real deep to find this thread...And the show goes on, campaigner obama still going:

Obama Campaign Pressures Potential Donors by Comparing Them With NeighborsThe Obama campaign is testing a new approach to fundraising, blasting out emails that ever-so-gently shame supporters into donating. Before the end of the third-quarter fundraising deadline last month, the campaign sent around specially tailored messages to those on their email list who hadn't yet contributed to President Obama's 2012 reelection fund. Campaign Manager Jim Messina urged them to chip in, by pointing out how many of their neighbors had already done so. An email sent to a New York recipient read as follows: "Here's something you don't have in common with 15,049 other supporters of this movement who tell us they live in New York, NY." Messina went on to say that all those donors "had their own personal reason for giving," and reiterated that "our records show that you aren't one of the 15,049 people where you're from who have stepped up for 2012. "Now's your chance to change that," Messina wrote. The email then asked for a minimum donation of $3 to help the campaign reach its goal of attracting 1 million donors.
He is absolutely shameless...By the way, why isn't Holder in jail???

obama still dropping in the polls, he went the wrong way...

A victory for America...

The more he moves to the left the lower he goes in the polls

Maybe he should go address his friends in the OWS...

This Wall Street occupation seems like desperation on his part. Now that the unions are involved it will get violent and I think he will wait too long to come out against what is going on. America will turn against the radicals and their agenda.

Funny though, actually saw Nancy Pelosi giving an interview siding with the protestors, guess she doesn't understand they are also protesting against everything she stands for.

Have also seen some anti-Obama signs in the crowds. It seems that they should be protesting the government, that is what feeds and encourages the corporate greed, but they don't want to hurt the hand that feeds them. Makes it seem like a political movement above anything.

HHS admits lynchpin portion of Obamacare "unworkable"

“Despite our best analytical efforts, I do not see a viable path forward for CLASS implementation at this time,” Sebelius said in a letter to congressional leaders.
One reason why the Obama administration has been reluctant to officially shut down the program is that it was one of the main accounting gimmicks they used during the health care debate. Because the CLASS Act was supposed to collect five years of premiums before paying out any benefits, the Democrats have been claim $80 billion in short-term surplus from the program as deficit reduction, ignoring the obvious fact that the money would eventually have to pay for benefits. It’s been called a “budget zombie.”

Most transparent administration EVER refuses to turn over subpoenaed Solyndra emails

On Friday the White House Counsel sent a letter to the House Energy and Commerce Committee explaining they won't comply with the request because it "implicates longstanding and significant institutional Executive Branch confidentiality interests."
Giving one of your biggest campaign donors a taxpayer guaranteed loan of five hundred million dollars for a business venture everyone knew would fail? yeah, I'd want to keep that confidential too.

More on the CLASS failure

The CLASS Act’s demise, while all but inevitable, is disturbing on a number of levels. It’s hard to think of a more fitting example of how the budget process in Washington has been completely corrupted. What kind of depraved accounting scheme lets Congress enact into law a program that literally cannot sustain itself from the get-go? A program that the CBO, in accordance with an absurdly flexible set of budgetary rules, scored as deficit-reducing! Not only that, but the 10-year’s worth of CLASS Act premiums accounted for most of the overall “savings” under Obamacare. In fact, the law almost certainty could not have passed without them, as they were included to give the (false) appearance of fiscal sanity.

Remember all that harping in 2008 about how George Bush's administration unconstitutionally kept White House Visitor Logs secret? All the complaining about Cheney not releasing the names, scaring up boogeymen that had corrupt influence over the gov't? Whining he called them state secrets and claimed executive privilege?

Obama must not remember, I guess.

Transparency!!!

Obama administration appeals ruling on White House visitor logs

The Obama administration is appealing a judge's ruling that Secret Service records of visitors to the White House complex are subject to disclosure under the Freedom of Information Act.

The Justice Department filed a formal notice of appeal Friday afternoon regarding U.S. District Court Judge Beryl Howell's August ruling rejecting arguments that the so-called WAVES records belong to the White House even though they are maintained and used by the Secret Service.

The decision to appeal the ruling to the D.C. Circuit would appear to be in tension with Obama's repeated pledges to operate the most transparent administration in history. The White House announced in Sept. 2009 that it was voluntarily releasing the names of most White House visitors from Sept. 15 forward. However, the conservative group Judicial Watch sought information on visits before that date.

The position taken by the Obama Justice Department, namely that White House visitor records are presidential records and not agency records, is essentially the same one that the department took under President George W. Bush.

Howell did not rule that every White House visit had to be disclosed. However, she concluded that all the data had to be made public unless the government asserted a specific exemption from FOIA, such as provisions protecting national security and privacy.

There was no immediate comment on the appeal from the White House or the Justice Department.

Just found out my medical premiums will go up 9% in 2012...

Short Term Disability up 400%

Thanks obama...

How can I join a union and get free stuff???

We are in Afghanistan because if we leave, it is very probable that the current government there will not survive, and the Taliban will return to power. I realize that in today's neo-isolationist America, the response to this is going to be a "so what?" from a lot of conservatives and liberals both. But the unfortunate fact is that this would be very bad for us, and as frustrating as our situation over there is now, we cannot afford to leave just yet. When can we leave? I don't know. But not now.
