Guys. We aren't on the teams. They don't care about us. They take our money and make millions off of us.
Wow really no kidding. Here I thought I was the quarterback.

In the past 5 years I've spent a LOT more than 8k on Bucs season tickets so I could witness like 13 combined wins.

We get nothing out of it? Why are we watching, caring, and spending all this money then? Some of us do make money on sports btw.
Isn't that the point of the question? Make money on sports, or forget the money, I only care about my team?

I root for my teams/schools to win, but I'm at the point where things that actually impact my life (like cash) matter more. So if the Steelers are up 6, and I have Ray Rice, I'd rather Ray Rice score a TD for my fantasy team.

We care too much about players and teams that really have no loyalty to us. We get mad at players when they leave via free agency, teams look totally different from one year to the next, coaches get fired or leave for other jobs quickly, consumers get raped by tickets and concessions and bombarded with ads etc.

My point is we care too much and spend too much money. Again, I root for my squads and am entertained and am willing to pay for such entertainment (and information for fantasy etc.), but when it's time to choose between cash and a team, I am loyal to me.

pretty rich for a Steelers fans to say championships are meaningless. you'd feel a LOT differently if you were a Browns fan I think.

God. Yuck.

I'd say you aren't really much of a Steelers fan then. Nothing wrong with that but if you are rooting for some crappy fantasy team over them, that's where your real interests are.

Well, there are fans and there are fans. Pointless to try to explain it. I swear somewhere in my DNA you'd find NY FOOTBALL GIANTS. I see people move to a new city and change teams, never understood that. That would be like changing sexual orientation.

But if you start thinking too deeply on it a couple thousand extra bucks doesn't really matter much either. As long as you and your family have a comfortable home, food on your table and decent access to education, transportation and other necessities of modern life, why is whatever you were gonna buy with all that money more valuable than the joy of watching your favorite team win a championship? You're just choosing between different types of fun things to do with the money.

I'm fully aware the players don't give a crap about me... and some don't really even care that much about winning.

I'm aware the owners only care about me because i use their product.

I get it... I hate what the NFL is doing in terms of the immense cash grabbing they have been doing of late... Thursday night football that no one wants, extra ads so that the games are now 3.5 hours instead of 3...

I understand your angle.

And furthermore many leagues don't even set their playoff system up in such a way that it consistently rewards the best overall team anymore... so championships are becoming extremely over-valued really.

But you know what... I like baseball and I spend big bucks on the Royals and regardless what the story is... if you told me i could write an $8K check and that would lead them to getting a title... well, you know what, that's worth it to me personally..

I'd do it tomorrow and not blink.

But after I got 1, I wouldn't be so inclined to write that check again for awhile.

I've noticed quite a split here based on the relative success of the posters' teams. Even with my own teams, I'd definitely pay more for a Nationals or Wizards championship than a Redskins championship. Although that may just be because if the Redskins win the Super Bowl I have to watch them hand the trophy to Dan Snyder.

If asked this question in my 20s, I give a different answer probably. Although if the NFL were the way it is today, back then, I don't know. I think I am just jaded at this point with the Thursday games, prices going up, and fans becoming more obnoxious and violent. We have murders after baseball games now?

I'm a Pirates fan too, so I know what it is like to lose. I've had a 10 or 20 game season ticket package every year since 2006, except this year, where I just bought 7 individual games. I don't play fantasy baseball or bet baseball, so I don't have the competitive comparison for Pirates vs. Me really, but I'd still take the money. The Pirates, who I've supported and who I defended against friends and family all this time, wanted me to buy 10 more games to qualify for playoff tickets. All these games that I went to with no crowds, when I could not get people to go with me or give tickets away when I had a conflict, and they would not let me upgrade my 7 games to a 10 game package by buying 3 more games. I still root for them and wanted them to advance, but I wasn't going to playoff game unless somebody offered me a free ticket like I offered countless times. I hope they are back to the playoffs this year and compete for a title (unlikely given the lack of moves and payroll, despite all the extra revenue), but if I had a choice, pay me.

I've spent my whole life rooting for this team, I couldn't imagine going back on my 25 years of watching football to root against in this one split second. If SF goes to the Super Bowl, I'll be at the game... Being at the game, I think it would take me about $20k to root against the kick.

I'm a fan, & sure Patrick Willis and Joe Montana won't be at my funeral, but I have my entire life invested in cheering for this team year in and year out. $8k is a decent chunk of change, but the memory for me is worth a lot more.

I didn't answer the poll - as a Boston fan with titles coming all the time, I'm cheap these days. But I'm trying to think what the number would have been for the Red Sox before 2004. I think I still take 8000, but I have to think about it.

Can make more money easily. Id give up a lot more than 8 grand for a Championship.
Says the Sabres fan. Understandable.
In most cases Sabres fan = Bills fan. I'd say most Buffalo fans would take a Super Bowl over $8,000. It's hard to say how much I'd have to be paid to want to experience another Scott Norwood. A lot, probably close to $100,000, and I'd still feel ####ty about it.
$8,000 is not even remotely close enough. Give me the Bills title all day.

I'd even take the championship for the Sabres over the $8,000, and I'm not really a diehard Sabres fan.
