According to Grantland, at least, and they've got some nice coverage going on over there. It's a big, big week.

I know it's so hard to narrow it down to 7. Making 2 lists.

Absolutely Rom-Coms

1. When Harry Met Sally....

2. While You Were Sleeping

3. How Do You Know

4. The Break-up

5. Pretty Woman

6. 50 First Dates

7. Just Go With It

Probably Not Really Rom-Coms

1. Bull Durham

2. Silver Linings Playbook

3. Crazy, Stupid, Love

4. Chasing Amy

5. Spanglish

6. Juno

7. 50/50

I don't think I've watched that many romantic comedies. One that my wife loves that I like too is Love Actually. There are lots of good #### in that movie that get flashed multiple times.

Weddding Crashers

Something About Mary

40 Year Old Virgin

Forgetting Sarah Marshall

Knocked up

500 Days of Summer

Scott Pilgrim vs The World

The only thing more embarrassing than a grown man ranking his favorite romantic comedies is referring to the genre as "rom-com".

Now that I have that off my chest, loved, I mean LOVED "Maid in Manhattan" <3.

There's Something about Mary

40 Year Old Virgin

Enough Said

Forgetting Sarah Marshall

Princess Bride

Harold & Maude

Sixteen Candles

1. and 1A. are Groundhog Day and Annie Hall.

After that, I'd need a lot more time and effort than I'm willing to muster. Although I'm kind of a sucker for that one where Richard Gere is a boring rich guy and Julia Roberts is a whore.

Maid in Manhatten was alright, but it doesn't hold a candle to Wedding Planner.

How dare you come into this thread and pretend the name that movie escapes you.

It does. I want it to be something about Manhattan, but I'm not sure.

Thankfully my wife isn't in to them but some that might qualify:

Pretty Woman

Roxanne

40-year old Virgin

As Good as it Gets

Groundhog Day

The Graduate

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind

First, let me preface this by saying I had no idea what Rom-Com was when I saw the title.

Anyways, onto my list in no particular order:

Jerry Maguire

As Good as it Gets

When Harry Met sally

Something about Mary

Sleepless in Seattle

Definitely, Maybe

The Wedding Singer

Should have included this.

Damn forgot that one.

Costner provides 2 fantastic loopholes for the sports fan doing Rom-Com rankings (Bull Durham, Tin Cup) and one solid one (For the Love of the Game). Throw Draft Day in too, I guess.

Looking at lists online (and jamny's) I see Eternal Sunshine mentioned a lot.

This is a comedy?

Great movie, but not sure I'm buying the rom-com classification.

I don't either, but we've got to let some of that slide. It helps people shake off the stink of having formulated a Top 7 Rom-Com list.

Is this a romcom? :sadbanana: Love that movie.
No doubt about it. Yes.Sorry friend.
But it qualifies as a sports movie too, right? Too much NFL stuff for it to not be.
A lot of these movies can be let off the hook with a "sports movie where the guy gets the girl" classification.

But like whipping out a gun during a robbery, Maguire uttered the words "you complete me". No turning back from that.

Love this movie, but not sure I'd call it a rom-com

Sliding Doors

Jerry McGuire

Bridget Jones

Singles

Eternal Sunshine would be my top pick, but I'm not so certain it counts. Along those same lines Chasing Amy, Bull Burham and Sideways would be in my top 7, but I'm not so sure about those either. In that same vein would be Tin Cup and Groundhog Day - both of which I wouldn't consider to be romantic comedies.

Accordingly, here is my list, in no particular order, of my top 7 romantic comedies as traditionally defined (that is, as a movie a girl I'm dating will want to watch that has humor in it but is mostly girly yet I find myself liking it):

1. 50 First Dates

2. How to lose a guy in 10 days

3. Pretty Woman

4. You've Got Mail ( :bag: )

5. She's All That ( :bag: :bag: )

6. 10 Things I Hate about You

7. Forgetting Sarah Marshall

ETA: Forgot Love of the Game, since I think that'd count. Put that in for 10 Things. Also, does A Knight's Tale count? If so, that'd be in there. Defining what is a "romantic comedy" is just too difficult IMO.

It's like trying to pick a favorite Michael Bolton song

Are we only counting romantic comedies since When Harry Met Sally, or are we going back to the screwball romantic comedies of the 40s?

Natural Born Killers seems like a good one to me. There's a love story and some comedy, she finds him romantic....

Love, Actually

Chasing Amy

Wedding Singer

10 Things I hate about You

Can't Buy Me Love

Bull Durham

40 Year Old Virgin

I'm struggling with calling Groundhog Day a romantic comedy as opposed to just calling it a comedy. The romance seems to take a backseat to the comedy too much for me to call it one.
