Zack Wilson Biggest Bust Since Jamucous Russell (1 Viewer)

I'm having a blast because I never thought he should have been the no2 pick in the first place. He never should have been a 1st round pick in the first place. Wilson was a one year wonder on an old team during the covid year where he didn't face any competition and still didn't win and there was seemingly no question that he was the Jets man from the start. At least with Lance there was a plan in place to keep him on the sideline for a year to learn. For some reason Wilson never got the same kind of treatment.
Kid was going to be a bust and it's amazing how an entire billion dollar organization couldn't figure it out when I could from my couch
Thinking a guy was overrated is fine. Mentioning you thought he was overrated is fine. We had non Jets fans booing in the game thread. It's a little weird.
A lot of the Jets fans (and some non fans) were really trying to forgive every little mistake this guy made. I responded to Hotsauce making a claim about how Wilson showed talent last year, which is baffling to me when he was worse than Josh Johnson. It would be fine if there was a sense of realism around his abilities, but all the fans have is buyers remorse almost instantly and they haven't been able to admit how trash he's been since day one.

Guess it's strange coming from Philadelphia, where Hurts basically needed to play at a probowl level this year (his third) to gaurentee he'd be the starting qb next year and Wilson is supposed to get a free ride to year three even if he sucks and everyone else on the bench is better than him according to some of the fan base.

I don't think you can blame the Jets here. Yes, he looks like a bust. But almost every NFL team had him rated high in the evaluation process, and there are tons of blown picks and bust QBs each and every draft. It's far from an exact science, and you've got to get lucky (which is obviously an area the Jets are lacking).
He was overdrafted even at the time so I think we can blame the Jets for that. If he was taken at 15 where Mac Jones was taken then yeah I'd say can't blame the Pats if the pick doesn't work out.

I don't think he was over drafted, he was the #2 QB on various draft boards.

He got a lotta hype in the pre-draft process. He was #2 in mocks but doubt many other NFL teams draft boards. Noone in my main superflex league wanted much to do with him. Same thing happened with Trubisky. Starting to think we're (and other fantasy players) are smarter than the GM's, at least when it comes to reaching for QB's...

I think a lot of those mock drafts we all read are just the result of group think. They’re all the same at this point. Those people are not scouts or real draft analysts.

Well, that and the previous regime who decided they’re rather win meaningless games than draft TLaw.

I don't really follow this.

Jets fans wanting their rookie QB to succeed seems logical to me. If they didn't know right off the bat that he wasn't any good, as you clearly did, that seems reasonable. That doesn't seem to validate trashing someone the way he has been trashed. The concept of him getting a free ride is laughable enough to be ignored

I'm interested in the phenomenon of players getting benefit of the doubt, and others not at all. For example, maybe if Hurts wins MVP, it will get the same level of confidence we see in Mike freaking White.

I don't know if I've ever heard anyone anywhere who thinks Mike White should be the long term starter for the Jets. They just think that he's good enough to function inside the offense and let the defense win the game.

Honestly guy seems like a douche and that's why he's easy to route against.
