Zuerlein out on IR (1 Viewer)

Penn State qb 2 yrs a pro playing FOR the team who HAD the top kicker by far in the league playing AGAINST the team that just gave up 6 fgs to SF last week ....and has given up 15 more points  this year than any other team in the league to kickers.  On matchup alone he is easily a top 5 or 6 kicker this week.

WOW - Superbowl coming up in my kicker-only league and this gets laid on me.  Ouch.
Kicker-only leagues are a cool idea ... if you're stuck in 2014. Fullback-only it's the new way to go. I paid $56 for Jusczyk and have dominated all year, but last week my sleeper pick Bohanon put me through to the finals.

FB?  Quit living in 2014, dude.

Nothing but Punters belong in FF for 2018.  Johnny Hekker winning people titles this week!  (Pour one out for Andy Lee...)

Punter? I bet you're the kind of person who only buys greatest-hits albums.

You haven't lived until you've played long-snapper fantasy. You really need to dig into the stats to figure out who provides the best value. Otherwise you might miss out on Don Mulbach and get stuck with Clark Harris.

:goodposting:

:tebow: to your superior FF acumen.  No way I can top that...any openings in your LS League?

Sorry, dude, but our 16-team dynasty league (20-man rosters) is all filled up.

Now, I know what you're thinking: How can you have 20-man rosters when each NFL team only has one long-snapper? And the answer, of course, is who said we have to limit ourselves to the NFL? I drafted a kid from a pee-wee football league in Arkansas who has been absolutely dominating.

(Incidentally, have you ever taken an improv comedy class? I did years ago, and I remember there was a game called "Can You Top This?" that was basically a real-time version of what we were doing the last few posts.)

May not mean much fantasy wise, but the loss of Zuerlein is pretty important for real-life football. Greg the Leg is a big weapon for the Rams and may change what that the team does on offense when they are just inside their opponents’ territory. May not want to put the game on an unknown leg.

Nope, never took imorov.  Though some would suggest my 20 years as a classroom teacher have afforded a similar level of training.   :P

To keep this back on the subject of the thread, though:

What are people's thoughts on how much of a kicker's success is situation vs. how much is his own ability?

Zuerlein has a monster leg, which may contribute to more opportunities for long FG and fantasy scores, which may in turn be Hekker punts this coming week.  If just being on a team with a good situation was all it took, people should be grabbing and starting Ficken with confidence.

Hopefully people remember that the next time the "kickers don't matter, it just depends on the quality of the offense" conversation comes up.

Yeah, this came up in the Kickers thread. @BobbyLayne posted some excellent analysis demonstrating that it's been a little of both: Rams offense has improved this year (he leads the league in XPA), but Z has also improved his accuracy (only 2 FGM) to go with his big leg. Best of all worlds.

But the more I think about it, I'm not even sure if the debate applies in this situation. It would be one thing if they had picked up a journeyman, replacement-level kicker. Then you might have a reasonable expectation that he could give you, say, 75% of Legatron's production. Instead, they have a guy who has literally never attempted a FG in the NFL before. Maybe he'll be fine, but maybe he will literally soil his uniform in advance of a big kick and be forced to duck-walk back to the sideline. No way you can bet your championship on that.

Well the Rams think he’s good enough to handle the pressure.

Yep, and the Chargers thought Koo was good enough. And the Bucs thought Aguayo was worth a second rounder ...

Kicking is a crapshoot, not only for fantasy but for NFL teams, too.

It’s a good point. Matchup is so good still might be worth the risk though...

Killer for me.  The guy has literally gotten me 15-20 points most weeks.  He outscore my qb lots (Keenum)

I picked up Dawson

Hoping you didn't have Kevin McDermott going for you in the title game...
